Thebuilt-inwireless LAN cardof thecomputer isinstalledinthiscompartment.
Thiscompartment alsoincludes twoSO-DIMM slotsfor expanding thememory
size up to2GB. Pleasenotethatthe memoryinstallation/replacementmust
bedone byan authorizedretailer.

Carefullyput thecomputerupside down, andyoucanfindthecorecompo-
nentsofthecomputer.

ConnectingthePower
YourNotebookPCisequippedwithahigh-capacity8-cellLi-ionbatterypack,
and it canoperateeither on thebattery’spower or AC power. However, for the
firsttimetouse yourNotebook PC,itisrecommendedtoconnecttheAC
adapteranduse theAC power. WhentheAC adapterisconnected,the
batteryischargedimmediately. Please NOTE thattheACadapter includedin
thepackageiscorrectforyourNotebookPC; using otheradaptermodelmay
damagethecomputer or otherdevicesonthecomputer.
Connecting the ACPower
1. Unpackthe package tofindtheAC adapterandpowercord.
2. Attach thepower cordtothe connectoroftheACadapter(Œ).
3. Plugthe DCendoftheadapter tothe computer(•), andthe male
endofthepower cordtothe electricaloutlet(Ž).
4. When the AC adapter isconnected,the green LEDon theACadapter
willlightup(•)toindicatethatthecomputerispoweredfromthe
electricaloutlet.

Disconnecting theAC Power
Whenyou disconnecttheACadapter,
youshouldunplugthepowercordfrom
the electricaloutlet first, andthen un-
plug theconnectorfromthecomputer.
Whenunpluggingthe power cord, al-
ways holdtheconnectorpartofthe
cord,neverpull thecord.

1. TheACadapterincludedinthe packageiscorrectfor
your NotebookPC;usingadifferentadapterwill
damageyour computer.
2. When unpluggingthe power cord,always holdthe
connectorpart ofthe cord (Œ),neverpullthecord

TurningOn/Off theNotebookPC
Now,whentheAC adapter isconnected,youarereadytouse your computer.
Openingthe TopCover
First, open thetopcoverbyslidingthe
cover buttononthefrontsideofthe
computer, andthenliftingthetopcover
gently.Youcantilt thetop coverforward/
backwardtotheoptimalviewingposition.
TurningOnthe Computer
1. Make surethat the computer
isconnectedtotheACpower.
2. Pressthe powerbutton.
Oncepressed,thepowerbutton
will light Green toindicatethat
the computeristurned on.
3. Whenthe computeristurnedon,
itwill firstperformaseriesof
diagnosticteststhatiscalled
Power-OnSelf Test (POST).
Power-OnSelf Test
The POST(Power-OnSelfTest)isasoftwarecontrolleddiagnostictesttool,
whichisasetofroutinesstored inacomputer’sROM(Read-OnlyMemory)
thattestsvarious systemcomponentssuchasthememory,disk drives,and
the keyboardtosee whethertheyareproperlyconnectedandoperating.If
problemsarefound during booting,theseroutinesalert the userbysound-
ing aseries ofbeepsordisplaying amessageon thescreen.
Then,theoperating system(such as Microsoft WindowsXP inthis
manual) shouldstart, andyoucanstart toworkwithyour Notebook
PC!

Turning Off theComputer
InWindows, alwaysuse the “ShutDown command toturnoff thecomputer.
Thisisthenormaloperating procedurethatcan preventsystemproblems.
1. Click Start (Œ)fromthe taskbar,andthenselectthe TurnOff
Computer option (•).
2. Click TurnOff (Ž)toturnoffthesystem.

1. Ifyouareworkingon aprogram,such as Microsoft
Word, youshouldsavethedataandclosetheprogram
first, and then turnoff thecomputer. Otherwise, you may
lose your data.
2. ConfirmthattheHardDiskIn-useLEDisOFFbefore
turningoff thecomputer. Also, remembertoremove
anyCDdiskfromthe drive.
3. Gentlytilt downthe topcoverwhen you areclosing the
cover,and makesurethatthecoverlatchesclickinto
placesecurely.

TheNotebook PC isaportableplatformthatallowsyoutoworkanywhere.
However, choosingagood workspace isimportantif youhavetoworkwith
yourNotebookPCforlongperiods oftime.
Yourworkareashouldhaveenough illumination.
Choosethe properdeskandchair,andadjusttheirheighttofityour
posturewhenoperating.
When sittingonthe chair,adjustthechair sback(if available) to
makeyour back comfortable.
Place yourfeetflatandnaturallyon thefloor,so thatyourkneesand
elbowsareproperlypositioned(about90-degree)whenoperating.
Put yourhands onthedesk naturallytosupportyourwrists.
Adjust theangle/positionoftheLCDpanel, so thatyou canhave the
optimalview.
Avoidusing yourNotebook PC inthespacewheremaycauseyour
discomfort (such asonthebed).
The NotebookPCisanelectricaldevice, pleasetreatit withgreat
caretoavoidpersonalinjury.
