1.2 Requirements
Appropriately assess the space required to install your shade by following the steps in sections 2.1.1
to 2.2.2 inclusive. We provide wood and masonry screws, depending on the surface where your
casing will be installed.
1.3 Unpacking your Multi-shade
1. Remove all 8 drywall screws (4 on each side). Make sure all screws are removed as they may
scratch or damage the casing or fabric if they are left on the tube.
2. Using a hammer and a large screwdriver, hit the wooden cap of the tube to un-wedge it. Remove
both wooden caps.
3. Two persons are needed to safely pull out the Multi-shade from the tube.
4. Put the casing on easels or balance it between two stable chairs.
5. Put the manual crank aside.
6. Remove the plastic wrapping with caution using a safety cutter.
DO NOT USE a regular knife or an X-acto, doing so could damage the casing.

2Bracket installation
This section will detail the installation procedure for the system. Note that at least two persons are
required to install the casing onto its brackets. You can install the anchor on your own, but you will
need help hanging your shade over the anchors. The installation of the anchors is the part that
requires the most time and attention.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE: IT IS ESSENTIAL TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS, OTHERWISE THIS
MAY RESULT IN BODILY AND PROPERTY DAMAGES AND INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY. PLEASE MAKE
SURE YOU READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN THE INSTALLATION.
NOTE: BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR MULTI-SHADE, PLEASE CHECK THE MOUNTING SURFACE AND
MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO OBSTACLES ON THE WALL SURFACE SUCH AS APPLIANCES, LIGHTS, DOOR
HANDLES, ETC. THAT COULD INTERFERATE WITH OR BLOCK THE SHADE WHEN IT IS DEPLOYING.
2.1 Wood / Aluminum Structures
For all buildings with an internal wooden structure, there is often a plank above the window or door,
which will be protected by the shade. Wood screws must be anchored in this structural part of the
building.
For any other structure, such as gazebos, or balconies, it is necessary to assess the horizontal support
between the columns. Make sure you have a solid base such as a wooden plank or a metal support
that will hold the anchors. In these cases, the casing will be installed in soffit mode. All of our casings
are designed to accommodate this type of installation.
2.1.1 The position
THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT FOLLOW ARE IDENTICAL WHETHER YOU INSTALL YOUR CASING IN SOFFIT
OR WALL MODE. You will notice that there are two (2) grooves on the case (see figure 1). One groove
for installation above and the other for wall mode.

Your shade can accommodate a height of up to ten feet (10 ’) (see figure 2). It is important to choose
a position that will give you maximum protection, while considering the length of the guide wires on
either side of your shade. If your window or door to be protected is shorter than ten feet (10 ’), you
will want to cut these guide wires to the height of your installation. However, this cut should only be
done when you have finished the installation. Even if the shade is longer, you can still stop the opening
of the fabric at the height of your installation.
2.1.2 Wall and soffit anchors installation
Warning: For installation into siding walls you must use spacers to ensure that the support bracket
is perpendicular to the ground (i.e., 90o), otherwise you risk bending the support brackets which
might result in the system falling from the wall. We also recommend adding caulking onto the
spacers to prevent corrosion.
1. Using the supplied brackets, position the bottom of each bracket 1 ¼” higher than the bottom of
the desired casing position.
2. Trace a horizontal chalk line at this height while ensuring that the line is leveled. This will aid with
the positioning of the other brackets.
3. We recommend positioning each bracket between 6” to 12” from the end of the casing. For
casings wider than 6 ft, position the third bracket as close as possible to the center of the system.
4. Position each bracket with the side with the two screw holes facing up. In a soffit installation case,
the bracket should be oriented with the two screw holes facing out (i.e., not towards the wall).
5. Using masonry marker or chalk, mark the position of each of the three screws.
6. Use a 3/32” bit to drill the 1-inch deep holes through the siding.
7. Use a Philips screwdriver to tighten the 3 # 8 1/3” wood screws thereby securing the bracket to
the wall.

2.2 Masonry structures
Warning: The following steps assume an installation in a solid brick structure. This excludes all
decorative brickwork. Moreover, ensure that the support bracket is perpendicular to the ground (i.e.,
90o), otherwise you risk bending the support brackets, which might result in the system falling off the
wall. We recommend using shims if the installation surface in uneven, to ensure a level surface for the
brackets.
2.2.1 The position
Just like in wood, choose a height that accommodates the length of your product's cables and that
does not present any obstacle in relation to the frame of your door, window or other element that
would prevent it from unfolding. If your window or door to be protected is lower than ten feet (10 ’),
you will want to cut the guide wires to the height of your installation. This cut should only be done
when the installation is finished. Even if the shade is longer, you can still stop the opening of the fabric
at the height of your installation.
2.2.2 Placement on bricks
Warning: The provided masonry fasteners cannot be used in the joint between two bricks (i.e., the
mortar). We advise to secure the fasteners in the body of the brick by maintaining at least 0.5” from
the brick’s edge. Also, the fasteners are not designed to accommodate hollow structures (ex: cement
blocks, stucco, etc.) Visit a hardware store to secure proper fasteners for these types of installations.
1. Using the supplied brackets, position the bottom of each bracket 1 ¼”

2. Ensure that each screw hole is at least ½” away from the edge of each
individual brick (Figure 4).
3. Trace a horizontal chalk line at this height while ensuring that the line is

4. We recommend positioning each bracket between 6” to 12” from the end
of the casing. For casings wider than 6 ft, position the third bracket as close
as possible to the center of the system.

5. Position each bracket with the side with the two screw holes facing up. In a soffit installation
case, the bracket should be oriented with the two screw holes
facing out (i.e., not towards the wall).
6. Using masonry marker or chalk, mark the position of each of
the three screws.
7. Use a 3/16” bit to drill the 1 ¾ “inches deep holes.
8. Use a 5/16” ratchet socket to tighten the ¼” and 1¾” masonry
screws thereby securing the bracket to the wall.
9. Ensure that the masonry screws are correctly anchored in the
holes. If this is not the case, consult your local hardware store
to obtain proper size fasteners.
3. Mounting the casing
3.1 Attaching the casing to the brackets
1. Carefully remove the packaging material from the Multi-
shade’s casing unit.
2. Using two ladders and at least one helper, lift the casing
and place it parallel to the support brackets.
3. Lower the casing grooves into the brackets. A bit of
pressure might be required (Figure 1).
4. Using a 5 mm Allen key, tighten the M6 bolt located on the brackets until they grip the
casing grooves (Figure 1).
3.2 Installing the cable guides
At each end of the casing there will be two cable guides covered in vinyl. These two
(2) guides need to be parallel to each other and secured via the cable guide support.
1. Uncoil the two (2) guide cables.
2. Untighten the “lower nut” to its maximum (Figure 6).
3. Thread the guide cables through their respective plastic holes,
located at the extremities of the charge bar.
4. Insert the cable thought the hexagonal head of the guide cable’s
support mechanism.

5. Install the guide cable’s support into the ground or into a vertical beam
depending on your set-up. Note that the orientation of the head can be
adjusted using a 3 mm Allen key (Figure 7).
6. Secure the cable guide’s support to the structure with the provided
screws.
7. Pull the cable and tighten the retention screw to ensure tension in the
cables (Figure 8). Makes sure both cables are parallel to each other and
they run straight down (i.e., no angle).
8. Retighten the “lower nut” to exert extra tension on the cable.
9. You may cut any excess cable at this point.
3.3 Testing the installation
Testing the installation (Manual)
1. Make sure that the casing is secured to the wall by
attempting to shake it with your hand using a moderate
amount of force.
2. Test the opening and closing of the system with the
included manual crank.
3. If everything checks out, you are done.
4. We highly recommend you read the maintenance
section to maximize the longevity of your system.
Testing the installation (Motorized)
1. Make sure that the casing is secured to the wall by attempting to shake it with your hand using a
moderate amount of force.
2. Plug the system into any standard North American GFI outlet.
3. Insert the batteries in the remote-control unit.
4. Select the first channel on the remote by using the left and right buttons.
5. Test the opening and closing using the remote.
6. If the system lowers down only to 7 ft. This is a factory calibration. If you wish to work with the
open and close limits, see section 5.E.
7. We highly recommend you read the maintenance section to maximize the longevity of your
system.

3.4 Connect the motor to the AC outlet and operate the shade
Plug the power cord into the AC electrical outlet (GFI) making a loop near the outlet to prevent water
from collecting at the AC receptacle (see figure 10). We also recommend the use of a protective cover
for AC receptacles that you will find in most hardware stores.

3.5 Remote control
We provide a wall mount for the remote control. Simply position the
bracket in the desired location inside, mark the location of the hole and
secure it with the supplied hardware.
CAUTION: Do not leave the remote control exposed to water, this
could affect its proper functioning. It is recommended to install the
wall bracket inside the house.
3.6 Channels for the remote control
When using your remote control, make sure to select the channel that
is functional first. When your shade left our factory, channel number
one (# 1) was programmed. This is the one you must first select to
operate your shade. This leaves you with fourteen (14) other channels
with which you can program / operate other sun shades or awnings equipped with a Dooya motor.
3.7 Fine tuning
Test the operation of the remote control using the “up” and “down”buttons (see figure 11).
The motor’s opening and closing limits have been programmed and tested at the factory. When exiting
the factory, your shade opens seven feet (7 ’). To change these limits, follow the instructions in Appendix
6.A

4Maintenance and safety
WARNING: BEFORE USING YOUR SUN SHADE, MAKE SURE THAT ANY OBJECT OR PERSON IS NOT
OBSTRUCTING ITS TRACK WHEN OPENING OR CLOSING. KEEP CHILDREN OUT OF REACH OF ANY
MOVING PARTS WHEN THE SUN SHADE IS OPERATING. THIS COULD CAUSE BODILY INJURY.
CAUTION: Never hang items from any part of the shade, except for accessories supplied by the
manufacturer.
WARNING: NEVER repair or disassemble any part of your shade without following the procedures
provided by the manufacturers of those replacement parts. Making repairs without proper
instructions could cause BODILY INJURY AS WELL AS IMPROPER OPERATION OF YOUR SHADE AND
SUCCESSFULLY VOID THE WARRANTY.
CAUTION: DAMAGE TO THE SUN SHADE AND TO THE MECHANISM CAUSED BY ACCUMULATION OF
WATER, RAIN, ICE OR STRONG WINDS is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Always retract
your shade during periods of snow, ice, rain or strong winds. When there are high winds, never
leave your shade open unattended.
WARNING: SNOW OR ICE ACCUMULATION MAY CAUSE DAMAGE OR COLLAPSE OF YOUR SHADE
AND / OR INJURY. YOU MUST RETRACT YOUR SHADE TO PREVENT ICE OR SNOW BUILDING UP. TAKE
CARE TO RE-OPEN YOUR SHADE TO DRY THE FABRIC WHEN IT IS POSSIBLE IF THE FABRIC WAS NOT
DRY WHEN RETRACTED.
For long term storage or non-use of a motorized shade, the manufacturer suggests running the
motor after a few months to maintain the lubrication of internal components.
To ensure the proper functioning and prolong the lifespan of your Multi-shade follow the
recommendations listed below.
4.1 Fabric
The fabric (composed of 74% PVC and 26% polyester) is coated with a special protective solution which
delays the formation and accumulation of dirt. Use the following cleaning instructions to maintain the
above-mentioned protective layer and maximize the life of the fabric.
Warning: Never use a pressure washer to clean the Multi-Shade system as it will strip the anti-
mildew coating, rip the seams and/or potentially damage the motor unit.
1. Using a soft brush and/or a vacuum cleaner remove any dust and dirt from the dry fabric.
2. To remove dirt, use a sponge, non-abrasive soap and a mild water temperature.

3. Rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of soap.
4. Leave the fabric fully extended to dry.
Warning: Never retract the fabric into its casing if wet. While the fabric is coated with an anti-
mildew protective layer, this layer is inadequate to safeguard the fabric under extremely moist
conditions. If you retracted the wet fabric in its casing, extend the system back to a fully open
position as soon as possible.
4.2 Motor and remote
Motor :
The electric motor is equipped with an automatic overheating shut-off system. If you open and close
your Multi-Shade several times in a row, the motor stops automatically before overheating. The motor
will resume normal operation after 20 minutes of cooldown.
To maximize the lifespan of the Multi-Shade system, cycle the motor at least a few times a year to
ensure proper lubrication of the internal components.
Remote :
The batteries (CR2430) need to be replaced every couple of years. A simple way to determine the
state of the batteries is by pressing any buttons on the unit and see if the red LEDs, located on the
bottom left, light up. If the LEDs on the remote do not light up and/or they all flash for less than 5
seconds change the battery. Additionally, we recommend storing the remote in a safe environment
with low humidity. We advise to remove the batteries if you are not planning to use the remote for
an extended period (i.e., winter).
Battery replacement procedure:
1. Once the battery is exposed remove it from the plastic holder.
2. Place the new battery in the plastic holder.
3. Slide back the carrying tray into the remote.

4.3 Winter storage procedure
Warning: You cannot use the Multi-Shade system during winter as the snow and ice will not only
damage the main fabric and it could result in an inoperable motor unit.
1. Ensure that the fabric is clean and dry before retracting it into its casing.
2. Completely retract the fabric in its casing (i.e., the upper limit).
3. Unplug the motor unit from the wall.
4. Using a plastic bag and tape wrap the end of the motor cord. This will protect the plug from
rain, snow, and ice.
5. Remote the battery from the remote.
6. Store the remote control in a low humidity environment.
5Appendices
The following steps are optional and a last resort. These steps have already
been done in the factory.
5.A Resetting and synchronizing the AC motor and the remote control
Note: This procedure describes the necessary steps to re-
establish communication between the motor and the remote
control or to reprogram a new one. This procedure should be
performed only if the remote control does not operate the
motorized shade. CAREFULLY REVIEW THE STEPS BELOW TO
FAMILIARIZE THE PROCEDURE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO
COMPLETE IT.
Please also note that the time limit between two (2)
operations must be shorter than ten (10) seconds, otherwise
you will have to start the entire procedure over from the
beginning. Make sure you have previously selected the channel of the remote you will be using.
01. Check that the LED indicator (previously set to the
channel you want to use) on the remote control is on
when you keep pressing one of the buttons. If the red
light does not come on at all or flash for less than five (5)
seconds, you will need to replace the battery (see section
4.2).

02. Press and hold the motor adjustment button located below the shade on the motor side (see
figures 13 and 14) until the motor beeps once (1) and the motor moves twice (2). Keep the
button pressed. The motor will again make one (1) beep and two (2) movements. Release the
button. The motor will make two (2) additional movements. (The motor is reset).
03. Press the motor button again. The motor will emit a long beep.
04. Use a pencil or paperclip and press the P2 button (see figure 12), the motor will beep one more
(1) and move two (2) times. Press the P2 button again and the motor will beep one (1) more time
and move two (2) twice.
05. Press the CLOSING (Raise) button once (1), the motor will beep three (3) times and move twice
(2).Make sure the motor is running in the correct direction. If the direction of the buttons is
reversed, see section 5.C to change directions.
5.B Programming an extra remote
This procedure applies if you have a new remote control and need to have it memorized by the engine.
1. Turn on the motor (three (3) beeps for the code, if the code is
not aligned it will make one (1) long noise and two (2)
movements).
2. Within 10 seconds, press P2 (see figure 13) P2, the motor will
make one (1) beep and two (2) movements.
3. Press P2 again, the motor will make one (1) beep and two (2)
movements
4. Finally, press the “up” button, the motor will make three (3)
beeps and two (2) movements).
5. The motor is coupled to the transmitter.
6. Make sure the motor is running in the correct direction. If
the direction of the buttons is reversed, see section 5.C to
change the directions.

5.C Reversing the remote direction
Ex: By pressing the "up" button, the fabric goes down.
1. Press and hold both “up” and “down” buttons (see Figure 11) for two (2) seconds at the same
time. The motor will emit three (3) beeps and two (2) movements.
2. The motor is now reversed.
IF YOU HAVE THE PREVIOUS REMOTE CONTROL (see
figure 15), when you press "Open" and "Close" at the
same time, you should see the red lights flashing
(channels). If the lights are not flashing (and the
batteries have been changed), the remote control
needs to be changed.
5.D Setting the initial limit
1. Make sure the motor is turned on.
2. Press P2 (see Figure 12), the motor will make one (1) beep and two (2) movements.
3. Press P2 a second time, the motor will make one (1) beep and two (2) movements.
4. The motor is ready for limit adjustments.
5. Proceed to section 5.E.
5.E Setting the opening and closing limits
Note: When there is no limit, the limit can be set without entering the limit setting mode.
Adjust the opening limit:
1. Raise the shade by pressing "up" (see Figure 15) to the desired opening position.
2. Press “stop” once, then hold “stop” for five (5) seconds, the motor will make 3 beeps and 2
movements.
3. The new opening limit is successfully programmed.

Adjust the closing limit:
1. Lower the shade by pressing "down" (see Figure 15) to
the desired closed position.
2. Press “stop” once, then hold “stop” for five (5) seconds,
the motor will make 3 beeps and 2 movements.
3. The closing limit as successfully programmed.
4. Make sure the motor is running in the correct direction.
If the direction of the buttons is reversed, see section 5.C
to change the directions.
5. If the motor is not rotating in the correct direction,
simultaneously press the "up" and "down" buttons on
your remote control, until the motor emits three (3)
beeps (review section 5.E from the beginning).

6FAQ (Motorized)
1. Can I connect my Multi-Shade directly to the electrical system (without a plug)?
It is possible to connect the motor directly to the electrical system by cutting the plug,
however doing so will void the motor warranty and may make programming more difficult. If
you really want to do this, make sure you have an easily accessible switch for motor
programming procedures.
NEVER CUT THE WIRE WITHIN 12 INCHES OF THE MOTOR AS YOU COULD CUT THE MOTOR'S
ANTENNA.
2. My remote control does not close or open the Multi-shade.
If your Multi-Shade is almost closed, but not completely, it may sometimes refuse to close. In
this case, it is necessary to open it a little before closing it completely.
If the Multi-Shade stops during its run or just after moving, it is possible that the overheating
protection is in effect. Wait at least 20 minutes and try again.
Check if the electrical outlet is functional by plugging in another appliance, such as a lamp.
If the plug is functional but the Multi-Shade does not work, test the remote control (i.e., LEDs
functioning).
Check if the batteries in the remote control are charged. A remote control with a low battery
will take longer to turn on the LEDs and will have a reduced range.
If the LED light does not blink, replace the batter with a new one; this is a CR2430 lithium
battery.
If the problem persists, erase the motor’s programmation and redo the limits.
3. My motor does not respond but it was working a few minutes ago.
If your Multi-Shade is almost closed, but not completely, it may sometimes refuse to close. In
this case, it is necessary to open it a little before closing it completely.
If the Multi-Shade stops during its run or just after moving, it is possible that the overheating
protection is in effect. Wait at least 20 minutes and try again.
Check if the outlet has power.
4. The Multi-Shade stops before it is completely open and/or it opens to far and the fabric
becomes loose.
The opening and closing limit of the motor needs to be adjusted.

5. The Multi-Shade only opens and closes if one of the buttons on the remote control is kept
pressed.
You need to redo the limits.
6. Can other remotes interfere with my Multi-Shade?
No, each remote control must be paired to the Multi-shade. Garage door openers and other
remotes cannot communicate with your Multi-shade.
7. I've lost my remote control and I'm not able to program my new remote control.
Follow the steps listed in the programming section.
8. I'm trying to open my Multi-shade, but the load bar doesn't go down or it goes down more
on one side than the other.
This occurs because the cable guide is not perpendicular to the system and/or not parallel to
each other.
9. The edge of the fabric appears to be fraying.
Each thread is a core of polyester fiber coated with thick PVC. When the mesh is cut,
sometimes a thread is cut in half and the fibers inside the coating fray. This fraying does not
spread to the rest of the fabric. You may simply cut them off with scissors.
