2. GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to heed warnings and
follow instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Keep safety warnings and instructions for future reference. The term
"power tool" in the safety warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded)
power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
2.1
Working area
Keep working area clean and well lit. Untidy and dark areas can lead to
accidents.

Do not operate power tools in potentially explosive surroundings, for
example, in the presence of inflammable liquids, gases or dust. Power
tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes
Keep children and bystanders at a distance when operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control of it.
2.2
Electrical safety
Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage
on the rating plate.
Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
Do not use adapter plugs with earthed power tools. Unmodified plugs and
matching outlets will reduce the risk of a lethal electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators,
kitchen ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of a lethal
electric shock if your body is earthed.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. If water gets inside a
power tool, it will increase the risk of a lethal electric shock.
Do not damage the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or
unplugging the power tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp
edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of
a lethal electric shock.
When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cable suitable
for outdoor use. Using a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of
a lethal electric shock.
If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a power
supply protected by a residual current device (RCD). Using an RCD
reduces the risk of a lethal electric shock.
2.3
Electrical safety
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when
operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool when you are tired or
under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. Amoment of
inattention when operating a power tool may result in serious personal

injury.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Using safety
equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, a hard hat, or
hearing protection whenever it is needed will reduce the risk of personal
injury.
Avoid accidental starts. Ensure the switch is in the off position before
inserting the plug. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or
plugging in power tools when the switch is in the on position makes
accidents more likely.
Remove any adjusting keys or spanners before turning on the power tool.
A spanner or key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may
result in personal injury.
Do not reach out too far. Keep your feet firmly on the ground at all times.
This will enable you retain control over the power tool in unexpected
situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair,
clothing and gloves away from the power tool. Loose clothes, jewellery or
long hair can become entangled in the moving parts.
If there are devices for connecting dust extraction and collection facilities,
please ensure that they are attached and used correctly. Using such
devices can reduce dust-related hazards.
2.4
Power tool use and care
Do not expect the power tool to do more than it can. Use the correct
power tool for what you want to do. Apower tool will achieve better results
and be safer if used in the context for which it was designed.
Do not use the power tool if the switch cannot turn it on and off. Apower
tool with a broken switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the power source before making adjustments,
changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety
measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
Store power tools, when not in use, out of the reach of children and do not
allow people who are not familiar with the power tool or these instructions
to operate it. Power tools are potentially dangerous in the hands of

untrained users.
Maintenance. Check for misalignment or jammed moving parts,
breakages or any other feature that might affect the operation of the
power tool. If it is damaged, the power tool must be repaired. Many
accidents are caused by using poorly maintained power tools.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with
sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
Use the power tool, accessories and cutting tools, etc., in accordance
with these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type
of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work
which needs to be done. Using a power tool in ways for which it was not
intended can lead to potentially hazardous situations.
2.5
Service
Your power tool should be serviced by a qualified specialist using only
standard spare parts. This will ensure that it meets the required safety
standards.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Accessories must be rated for at least the recommended strokes per
minute speed of the tool. See the Specifications section for the no load
speed.
Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. Keep both hands
securely on the saw. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be
cut by the blade.
Keep your body positioned to either side of the blade, but not in line with
the saw blade. Kickback could cause the saw to jump backwards.
Do not reach underneath the work piece.
Never hold a work piece being cut in your hands or across your leg.
Secure the work piece to a stable platform. It is important to support the
work properly to minimize body exposure, blade binding, or loss of
control.
Stay clear of end pieces that may fall after cutting. They may be hot,
sharp and / or heavy. Serious personal injury may result.

Always handle the saw blade with care when mounting or removing it.
Do not start the tool when the blade is touching the work piece.
Hold power tools by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an
operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.
Contact with a “live”wire will also make exposed metal parts of the
power tool “live”and shock the operator.
Always use blades that are designed to be used with this saw. Blades
that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw may be launched
with great force from the saw causing damage to property or personal
injury. A blade that does not match the mounting hardware may also run
eccentrically, causing loss of control.
After changing a blade or making adjustments, make sure that the blade
clamp is holding the blade securely.
Do not use dull or damaged blades.
Do not use the tool on any material containing asbestos.
Avoid cutting nails. Inspect the work piece for any nails and remove
before cutting.
Do not touch the blade or the surface that has been cut with this tool
immediately after use. The surface will be hot and may cause an injury.

NOTE: The drawings in the assembly operation sections of this manual may
differ slightly from the tool.
WARNING! Always disconnect the tool from the power source before
installing or removing blades or adjusting the saw in any way.

INSTALLING THE BLADE
NOTE: Please refer to the illustration figure 1
when installing or removing the blade.
1. Pull the blade release lever (1) outward
from the saw housing.
2. While holding the blade release lever
outward, insert the appropriate blade (2) into
the blade slot (3) as far as it will go.
3. Secure the blade in place by pushing the blade release lever
(1) back into the locked position in the saw housing.
REMOVING THE BLADE
To remove a blade, simply pull outward on the blade release lever and
remove the blade from the blade holder.
ADJUSTING THE PIVOTING SHOE
The pivoting shoe will pivot to follow the angle
of the blade to the work piece. This action
ensures that the flat surface of the shoe is
against the work piece for better cutting
action and easier control of the saw.
The shoe can be adjusted in or out, allowing
the use of the blade teeth at different points
on the blade. This will provide longer blade life as one section of the blade
becomes dull.
NOTE: Please refer to the illustration figure 2 when adjusting the pivoting
shoe.
1. To adjust the pivoting shoe (1), loosen the pivoting shoe hex screws (2) on
the lower side of the saw using the 4 mm hex key (3).
2. Slide the pivoting shoe in or out until it is in the appropriate position.
3. Lock the pivoting shoe in place by tightening the pivoting shoe hex screws.
4. Pull outward on the pivoting shoe to ensure that it is firmly locked

VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL
Set the reciprocating saw speed by rotating the
variable speed control dial (1) to the appropriate
speed. Position the speed control dial at “1” for
the slowest speed, “3” for medium speed and at
“6” for the highest speed.
Trigger Switch
The trigger switch turns the reciprocating saw ON and
OFF.
1. To turn the saw ON, squeeze the trigger switch (1)
(see figure 4).
2. To turn the saw OFF, release the trigger switch.
LED WORK LIGHT SWITCH
This saw is equipped with a convenient dual LED
work light.
1. To turn the LED work light ON, press the work
light button (1) once (see figure 5).
2. To turn the work light OFF, press the work light
switch a second time.
ADJUSTING THE 8 POSITION REAR PIVOTING HANDLE
The rear pivoting handle can be set at 0°, 45°, 90° , 135°and 180°and -45°,
-90°, and -135°for easy cutting in any direction. The 0°setting is the most
commonly used setting for vertical cutting.
NOTE: Please refer to the illustration figure 6 when adjusting the pivoting
handle.
To rotate the rear pivoting handle:
1. Pull back on the rotating handle release
button (1).
2. While holding the rotating handle release button back, rotate the rear
pivoting handle (2) to the desired position, then release the rear pivoting
handle locking button.

3. Slightly rotate the rear pivoting handle in both directions until the handle
locks into position.
CAUTION: Make sure that the cutting head is firmly locked into position
before making any cuts.
OPERATION
WARNING! Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields
and a dust mask during all cutting operations.
MATERIALS YOU CAN CUT
This reciprocating saw is a versatile tool that allows you to cut many different
types of materials.
Some of
these
materials
include:
Wood products such as lumber, hardwood, plywood, composite
board, and paneling.
Drywall
Fiber board and plastic
Metals, such as pipe, steel rods, sheet steel, aluminum, brass,
and copper
NOTE: There are many different types of blades available. Generally, there
are metal cutting blades (fine teeth) and wood cutting blades (coarse teeth).
Use the correct blade for your application. The packaging on the blade will
indicate the type of materials each blade is designed to cut.
NOTE: It has been found that electric tools are subjected to accelerated wear
and possible premature failure when they are used on fiberglass boats and
sports cars, wallboard, spackling compounds or plaster. The chips and
grindings from these materials are highly abrasive to electric tool parts such
as bearings, brushes, commutators, etc. Consequently, it is not
recommended that this tool be used for extended work on any fiberglass
material, wallboard, spackling compounds or plaster. During any use on these
materials it is extremely important that the tool is cleaned frequently by
blowing out with compressed air.

WARNING! Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields
and a dust mask while blowing dust out of the reciprocating saw. Failure to
take these precautions could result in permanent eye or lung damage.
BEFORE CUTTING
Verify the following every time the reciprocating saw is used:
1. The correct blade for the material being cut is installed in the saw.
2. The blade is firmly clamped in the blade holder.
3. The blade is sharp and in good condition.
4. The work piece is properly secured.
5. Safety glasses and hearing protection are being worn.
WARNING! Do not attempt to modify tools or create accessories. Any such
alteration or modification is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition
leading to possible serious injury.
WARNING! Failure to observe these safety rules will significantly increase the
risk of injury.
GENERAL CUTTING
1.
Clearly mark the work piece to locate the position of the cut
2.
Secure the work piece with clamps or other practical ways to support or
secure the workpiece to a stable platform, workbench or table.
WARNING! Any work piece that is not adequately clamped in place
may come loose and cause severe personal injury. Never hold the
work piece with your hand.
3.
Make sure that there are no nails, screws, clamps or foreign materials in
the path of the saw blade.

4.
Hold the saw away from your body
and in front of you (see figure 7).
5.
Firmly grip the saw with both hands
and with the blade NOT in contact
with the surface to be cut.
6.
Start the saw by pressing the safety lock button and squeezing the trigger
switch.
7.
Once the saw has reached the desired speed, place the adjustable
pivoting shoe against the work piece and gradually bring the moving blade
into contact with the work piece at the appropriate location.
CAUTION! Do not force the saw. Use only enough force to keep the blade
cutting. Excessive pressure on the blade will cause it to bend and twist, which
may result in breaking the blade.
PLUNGE CUTTING
1.
Clearly mark the work piece to locate the position of the cut.
2.
Clamp the work piece to a workbench or table (see figure 8).
NOTE: Make sure that the area to be cut is clear under the work piece so
that the blade will not come into contact with anything other than the
workpiece.
3.
Select a convenient starting point in the area to be cut out. Place the tip of
the blade over that point.
4.
Rest the lower edge of the adjustable pivoting shoe on the work piece and
hold it firmly in that position, maintaining a shallow cutting angle.
5.
Squeeze the trigger switch to start the saw.
WARNING! Make sure that the blade does not touch the work piece
until the saw reaches full speed. Loss of control and possible injury
could occur.
6.
With the saw running at full speed, slowly tilt the saw until the tip of the
blade contacts the work piece and begins to cut. After the blade cuts
through the work piece, tilt the saw upward until the blade is perpendicular
to the workpiece.

METAL CUTTING
Metals such as pipe, steel rods, sheet steel, aluminum, brass and copper can
be cut with your reciprocating saw.
1.
To cut thin sheet material, “sandwich” the material between hardboard or
plywood and clamp the layers to limit vibration and material tearing.
2.
Always use a fine toothed metal cutting blade and run the saw at medium
speeds when cutting metal.
3.
Use cutting oil to keep the blade cool, increase cutting action, and prolong
the life of the blade.
4.
Do not twist or bend the saw blade.
5.
Do not force the saw blade. Let it cut at its own speed.
WARNING!
Always clamp the work piece in a vice, or to a workbench or table. Do not hold
the work piece in your hand or against your body.
Never use gasoline as a lubricant or as a cleaning agent. A spark from the
motor may cause an explosion. Gasoline will also damage the plastic
components of the saw.
MAINTENANCE
1.
Remove the plug before carrying out any adjustment, servicing or
maintenance.
2.
Keep the machine clean.
3.
Never use a saw blade that is damaged, distorted or dull.
4.
After use, make sure the power plug has been removed from the power
source and store the tool in a secure place out of the reach of children.
5.
Periodically remove the metal chips and dust from the surface of the tool
with a damp, clean cloth.
CAUTION! Do not use solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Plastics are
susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be
damaged by their use.
WARNING! Do not allow brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products,
penetrating oils, etc. to come into contact with plastic parts. They contain
chemicals that can damage, weaken or destroy plastic.

6.
When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. The use of any
other part may create a hazard or cause product damage.
7.
Do not abuse power tools. Abusive practices can damage the tool and the
work piece.
LUBRICATION
All of the bearings in this tool are lubricated with a sufficient amount of
high-grade lubricant for the life of the unit under normal conditions. No further
lubrication is required.
REPLACING CARBON BRUSHES
When the carbon brushes require replacing, please bring the tool to an
authorized service centre for replacement.
STORAGE
When not in use for an extended period, store the tool in a cool dry place, out
of the reach of children.
DISPOSING OF THE TOOL
If your tool has become damaged beyond repair, do not throw it out. Bring it to
the appropriate recycling facility.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

ENVIRONMENT
Should your appliance need replacement after extended use, do
not discard it with the household rubbish but dispose of it in an
environmentally safe way.
Waste produced by electrical machine items should not be
handled like normal household rubbish. Please recycle where
recycle facilities exist. Check with your Local Authority or retailer for
recycling advice.
