1. Introduction
Netvox ZA01B, a gas detector with heat sensor, acts as a Router Device in ZigBee network. ZA01B is featured to
play a role of the sensor (Zone device) in the ZigBee security system. When the leak is occurring, ZA01B would
send out the alert message to the Warning Device. ZA01B will also notify the central security unit, CIE (Control
and Indicating Equipment) device, to send commands to a siren device to trigger an alarm.
What is ZigBee?
ZigBee is a short range wireless transmission technology based on IEEE802.15.4 standard and supports multiple
network topologies such as point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and mesh networks. It is defined for a
general-purpose, cost-effective, low-power-consumption, low-data-rate, and easy-to-install wireless solution for
industrial control, embedded sensing, medical data collection, smoke and intruder warning, building automation
and home automation, etc.

4. Setting up ZA01B
4-1. Join the ZigBee Network
After ZA01B is turned on, it will search for an existing ZigBee network and send a request to join the network
automatically. While ZA01B is under the coverage from a coordinator or a router whose permit-join feature
is enabled, ZA01B will be permitted to join the network.
Step1. Enable the permit-join function (valid for 60 seconds) of a coordinator or a router (please refer to
the user manual of the coordinator or the router to enable the permit-join feature).
Step2. Turn on ZA01B. It will start to search and join the network.
Step3. The indicator will stay green after it is joined successfully. Otherwise, the indicator will stay red.
4-2. Enroll in the ZigBee Security System
ZA01B is a Zone device in the ZigBee security system. Right after ZA01B join the ZigBee network, it will
automatically find out a CIE (Control and Indicating Equipment) device (i.e. Netvox Z201B) and send a
registration request to the CIE device to enroll in the security system. The enrollment has these 3 situations:
A. There is no CIE device or no compatible CIE device in the network → the indicator flashes red twice.
B. There is a compatible CIE device in the network, but it is failed to enroll → the indicator flashes red 4
times. Users can press and hold the Test Key for 3 seconds to initiate the registration.
C. The enrollment is completed → the indicator flashes red 6 times.
NOTE: Users had better NOT enroll multiple Zone devices at the same time to prevent registration failure.
4-3. Permit-Join
ZA01B is designed to work as a router. To allow other devices to join the ZigBee network, users could enable
the Permit-Join feature using the tips:
A. Press the Binding Key to enable the Permit-Join feature.
B. The default Permit-Join period of time is 60 seconds.
4-4. Alert Test
To test the alert feature of ZA01B, press the Test Key once.
A. ZA01B is in a network → it generates alert sound for 5 seconds. The indicator flashes red 5 times.
B. ZA01B is not in a network → it generates alert sound for 5 seconds. The indicator flashes green 5
times.
C. ZA01B is enrolled in the Security System → it sends notification to the CIE device and generates alert

6
sound. The indicator keeps flashing red.
D. ZA01B is not enrolled in the Security System → it sends the enrollment request. After the enrollment is
successful, it will generate an alert sound.
4-5. Gas Sensing
When the leak is occurring, ZA01B would send out the alert message to the Warning Device. It will also send
the notification to CIE device or to the device which is bound using Cluster ID (0x0500). ZA01B works as a
temperature sensor as well. It alerts when the temperature is higher than 60 degrees.
The sensing feature is ready after ZA01B is powered on for 5 minutes.
After ZA01B is powered on for 48 hours, it will reach the best sensitivity.
Gas detecting range: 500-10000ppm.
4-6. Announce
Press and hold the Test Key for 3 seconds to announce.
4-7. Reboot
Press and hold the Test Key for 10 seconds to reboot ZA01B. After rebooting, the red indicator will turn green.
After enrollment, the indicator flashes red 6 times.
4-8. Restore to Factory Setting
To restore it to factory setting, please follow the steps:
Step1. Press and hold both Binding Key &Test Key for 5 seconds. The indicator will start to flash.
Step2. After releasing both keys, the indicator will flash 20 times to show restore completed.
Step3. If the indicator stays red after restoring, it means device does not join in the network.

5. Home Automation Clusters for ZA01B
A cluster is a set of related attributes and commands which are grouped together to provide a specific function. A
simple example of a cluster would be the On/Off cluster which defines how an on/off switch behaves. This table
lists the clusters which are supported by ZA01B.
