Congratulations on your purchase of the NEUMI BS5 bookshelf speakers! We have
esigne these speakers to eliver an engaging listening experience for both music
an movies. Please rea these instructions to get the best quality soun out of your
new speakers!
Setup an Connections
Before these speakers can be use , be sure that you have the following:
•
Amplifier - The BS5 are passive speakers that require an amplifier or home theater receiver
to pro uce soun . They cannot be irectly connecte to a computer, music player, or phone
to play soun .
•
Speaker wire - Speaker wire is nee e to connect the BS5 speakers to an amplifier. Since
the length of speaker wire nee e varies greatly epen ing on each setup, speaker wire is
not inclu e in or er to re uce waste. We keep the BS5 affor able so that you can
purchase speaker wires in the necessary length an thickness that best fit your nee s.
The following iagram illustrates the connection between the speakers an the amplifier. Please be
extra careful about the polarity of the connection, going from the positive (+) re connector on the
amplifier output to the re connector on the BS5 speaker, an similarly for the negative (-) black
connectors.
Note: A reversed connection polarity will cause the speakers to lack bass and sound thin. f
something doesn’t sound right, check the speaker connection polarity.

The BS5 is equippe with 5-way bin ing posts to work
with a variety of ifferent speaker wire connection
metho s. Please refer to the iagram to etermine the
best metho for your speaker wire.
Simplest: Use the straight wire metho - unscrew the 5-
way bin ing post nut, insert bare speaker wire en s into
the expose hole, an tighten own the nut.
Recommen e : Use banana plugs - either purchase
speaker wire that is ma e with banana plugs, or purchase
banana plugs separately an install onto speaker wire
en s. Tighten own the 5-way bin ing post nut securely,
an then insert the banana plug.
Amplifier Recommen ations
The BS5 has a nominal impe ance of 6 ohms an can be
use with amplifiers or home theater receivers that have a
power output rating of 15 to 100 watts per channel. Please check your amplifier’s user manual to
confirm that it is compatible with 6-ohm speakers.
Speaker Wire Recommen ations
Inexpensive speaker wire is available from a wi e range of online an local sources such as your
local har ware store. You can purchase speaker wire that is alrea y ma e to the length nee e , or
in spools of 50 feet or 100 feet an cut to the esire length. The thickness of the speaker wire
nee e epen s on the length. Please reference the list below to fin the thickness recommen e
for the length you nee :
•
50 feet or less - 16 Gauge
•
50 to 80 feet - 14 Gauge
•
80 to 120 feet - 12 Gauge
•
120 to 200 feet - 10 Gauge
Placement Recommen ations
Asi e from the engineering an tuning that went into the esign of the BS5 speakers, the most
important factor that will etermine how goo it soun s is the placement of the speakers in your
listening room. In general, the placement of the BS5 shoul be:
Symmetrical - To the extent possible, place the BS5 speakers about equal istance from the left
an right si e walls, forming an equilateral triangle with the main listening area.

At Ear Level - The speakers shoul be place on speaker stan s, shelf, or esktop that places it at
the same level as the ear of the listener. Avoi placing the speaker much higher or lower than this
level as it will egra e the soun . If the speakers must be place at a ifferent height, tilt the
speaker to aim more irectly at the listener.
Away From Hard Surfaces - Any har surfaces such as bare walls, uncovere woo /tile floors, or
tabletop will reflect soun an cause istortion. Keeping the speaker away from these har
surfaces will minimize these soun reflections an maintain clarity. Use the following as a gui e:
•
Back wall - At least 6 inches away from the back wall.
•
Si e walls - At least 2 feet away from a si e wall. If a speaker must be place close to a si e
wall, point it towar s the main listening area.
•
Floors - Avoi bare woo /tiles in front of the speakers. Floor coverings such as thick carpets
an pa e area rugs will help.
•
Desktop - If use as esktop computer speakers, tilt the speaker up towar the listener to
re uce reflections.

Other Tips
Toe Angle: Pointing the speakers forwar without being aime at the main listening area will
generate the largest listening sweet spot. Aiming the speakers towar s the listening area will make
the speakers soun brighter, an enhance imaging at the central listening spot. Experiment with
the toe angle to get the esire tonal balance an imaging.
Orientation: The BS5 is esigne to be use vertically for optimal results. If nee e , it can be use
horizontally to fit space constraints. If horizontal placement is necessary, be sure to point the
speaker more towar s the main listening area.
Grill or No Grill: The BS5 was tune for optimal au io performance without the grill. Using the grill
will intro uce a slight change to the au io signature which may be au ible to some listeners ue to
their hearing acuity.
Wall Mount: To wall-mount the BS5, use shelf-type wall mount brackets that support the speaker
from the bottom. If it’s necessary to wall-mount the BS5 at a tilt angle, use a clamp-type wall mount
bracket instea . Do not rill holes or rive screws into the BS5 - oing so will tangle the polyfill
insi e an amage the speaker.
CRT TVs/Monitors: Do not use the BS5 near CRT TVs or monitors. The magnets insi e the
speaker are not shiel e an will cause image istortion on CRT-base isplays, inclu ing
permanent amage if left in place for a prolonge perio .
