QUICK INSTALL GUIDE
MEDIA SERVER/PLAYER
INTEGRATION MODULE
IM-SERVER

The IM-Server is an interface module for media servers and
players and slides into the card cage on an IntelliControl ICS
Modular MultiZone Receiver. It provides Ethernet based control,
metadata such as artist and song title, information to keypads
that have a visual display, and line level audio inputs for single
or multi-stream media servers/players. Source components are
controlled with both an IR flasher output and CAT 5 Ethernet
connections. The card has cascade audio outputs and IR pass-
through to allow expansion to additional IntelliControl ICS
Modular MultiZone Receivers in expanded systems. Additional
IM-Server cards can be used, one for each stream output of a
multi-steam media server/player.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS
Plug and Play Integration
The IM-SERVER module will automatically identify itself to the
IntelliFile®3 Configuration Software during system configuration
and map all appropriate control functions to all user interfaces.
Metadata
Metadata from the media server/player is displayed on the key-
pad (that have displays), touchscreens and iRemote. Metadata
depends on the Media Server’s capabilities and id3 tags on the
music in the library.
Audio Input
Line-level audio input takes the audio output of a media server/
player source and distributes it through the IntelliControl ICS
Modular MultiZone Receiver, then audio is distributed through
the zone matrix when selected by a single or a group of zones.
Cascade Audio
Left and right line-level audio outputs for use in multiple chassis
IntelliControl ICS systems and home theater receivers.
IR In
Accepts IR commands from corresponding IM-AUDIO Modules
in slave chassis when multiple chassis are used in expanded
systems.
IR Out
Outputs IR commands when the media server/player’s remote is
used in zones where a keypad is using an IR Sensor.

INSTALLATION
WARNING: Always turn the power OFF on the IntelliControl
ICS Modular MultiZone Receiver and be sure the AC line cord
is disconnected to avoid damage and electrical shock before
making any connections to the IM-SERVER Module.
CAUTION: The IM-SERVER Module is susceptible to static dis-
charge. Be sure to use a grounding strap or touch an earth ground
prior to picking up the IM-SERVER. Handle the card by its edges.
1. Carefully slide the IM-SERVER Module into the appropriate
card slot. (Refer to the GXR2 Installation Worksheet to as-
sure proper card slot number.)
2. Concentrate on the GXR2 card cage guides as you insert the
module card.
3. Be sure the multi-pin connector is secure to the header in the
card cage.
4. Tighten thumbscrews. (Do not over tighten.)

INSTALLATION (CONT’D)
Connecting a Media Server or Player to the
IM-SERVER
Preparation for Connection
Make sure that the Media Server/Player to be used with the
IntelliControl ICS Modular MultiZone Receiver is connected to
the customer’s home network via a network switch/hub and
CAT-5 cables. It is recommended to test all remote control and
music content functionality of the Media Server/Player before
connecting to the IntelliControl ICS System.
Audio
When all IM-SERVER cards are installed in the Master
IntelliControl ICS Modular MultiZone Receiver, connect the Left
and Right line level audio OUT of the Media Server to the Left &
Right audio IN on the appropriate IM-SERVER.
Network Device
Connect a CAT-5 cable from the Network Device port of the IM-
SERVER card to the network switch/hub that the Media server/
Player is connected to.
IR OUT
Attached a Niles IR Flasher (Niles model MF1, MF1-VF) directly
over the IR eye on the component. (Shine a flashlight onto the
front panel of the media server to find the IR OUT eye if it is not
obvious.)
Carefully run the flasher wire back to the IntelliControl ICS
Modular Multizone Receiver and plug it into the IR jack on the
appropriate IM-SERVER card.
NOTE: An IM-SERVER card can be used for each stream on a
multi-stream capable Media Server.
