Chapter 1 Overview of self-erecting Cranes
1.1 Overview
TK32 self-erecting tower crane is combined a variety of fixed tower cranes with majority
truck cranes based on successful experience, through absorbing the latest scientific and
technological achievements at home and abroad, and advanced technology, our company
developed the self-erecting tower crane.
The cranes include horizontal boom, column, hydraulic legs, trolley, low-level slewing
(360°rotation), wireless remote control, automatic extension and retraction of the crane.
Boom length 32m; maximum Hoisting capacity is 4t, the maximum rated Hoisting
moment is 40t.m. It is generally applied to residential building below 5 story’s, villas, factories
and bridges constructions.
The crane can be transported by 1.1m high drop-deck trailer & 1 x crane truck
. The assembly and disassembly process can be carried out using 1 crane truck which
greatly reduces the installation cost of construction equipment. The foldable tower crane is an
ideal Hoisting machine for building construction to save energy, lower labor costs and reduce
transportation.
The tower crane is equipped with various safety protection devices, including the Hoisting
moment limiter, the maximum weight limiter, the rotation limiter and the Trolley limiter, etc to
ensure the crane safe.
TK32 type folding tower crane advanced parameters, reliable performance modern in
appearance & excellent quality, its design does not only focus on a wide range of small and
medium-sized construction units of the requirements, with simple and practical price reasonable
advantages, but also To meet the low - rise housing, industrial plants, bridge construction
requirements.

2.1.2 Brief description of jib crane structure
The machine consists of metal structure, mechanical transmission, electrical control and
safety protection device. The metal structure includes five jib sections, two columns, rotary table,
counterweight, frame, outrigger, trolley and so on. According to the different characteristics of
each part is summarized as follows:
2.1.2.1 :Jib
The jib is made of variable cross-section isosceles triangular structure, upper chord, lower
chord, diagonal struts, horizontal struts are seamless steel pipe. Lower chord upper surface is

4
guaranteed to be flat and straight, in order to act as the trolley track. The jib is light in weight,
small cross-section, small wind-resistance as shown in Figure 2.2. The jib is folded when out of
work, once it starts to work use the hydraulic mechanism to rotate the jib to the flat state. The jib
full expanded length is 32m and the folded length is 14.5m.
fig2.2 Jib diagram
2.1.2.2: Column
The column consists of two quadrilateral box-type columns which is welded by three parts
the head, tail and barrel. The structure is compact, the load capacity is strong and the installation
is convenient. Shown in 2.3. The docking and folding of the two columns is driven by the
hydraulic system, which is simple in operation and fast in efficiency.
fig2.3 Column diagram
2.1.2.3: Rotary table
The rotary table is steel-welded, the front and the column is connected by high-strength
shaft so does the upper section and the pole, Erecting mechanism is installed in the middle . The
lower part is connected by 32 M22 high strength bolts with the inner ring of the slewing support.
On one side of the rotary table is the slewing mechanism , from which the pinion is engaged with
the slewing outer gear.
On the other side we have installed the hydraulic pump and an electrical control box. The rear
deck is for the counterweight.

5
2.1.2.4 Counterweight
The counterweight consists of three base components with a counterweight of 2.2 t at the
bottom and a left and right counterweight with a weight of 1400kg each the remaining 8
counterweights all weigh 1600kg each
Total 17.8 t.
2.1.2.5: Frame
The frame is made of welded steel plate, the upper part of the rotary table is connected
with 32 M22bolts and the lower part is connected by the high-strength pin with double-bridge.
You can quickly remove the double bridge conveniently and fast when it transported by flatbed
trailer. In the four corners of the frame, using the high-strength pin to connect four outriggers
separately.
2.1.2.6: Outriggers
NOTE THE CRANE IS EQUIPED WITH 2 DIFFERENT TYPES OF OUTRIGGER
PADS THE HIGHER SET ARE ONLY TO BE USED FOR LOADING AND
UNLOADING FROM TRANSPORT AND IT IS PROHIBITED FOR USE FOR
OPERATION OF THE CRANE IN SERVICE
Outrigger are equipped with full hydraulic legs these are connected to the slewing table
by the high-strength pin. You can quickly fold the outrigger legs conveniently and fast when it
transported by drop deck trailer.
2.1.2.7: Trolley
The trolley is a steel structure that drives the hook and Hoisting objects to reciprocate
along the jib with four wheels (each side has 2 wheels), and the track of the trolley wheels are
the lower chord of the jib.
2.1.2.8: Electrical System
Adopting a PLC control system, the crane is equipped with a variety of safety integrating
mechanical with electrical products, adapting to the harsh construction environment.
All of the above ensure the crane will perform reliably and safely.
The electrical control system uses professional electrical components to introduce foreign
