The August West Systems TurboSweeperis heavy-
duty, portable vacuum designed and engineered to
pickup deposits of soot and debris from oil and gas
flues, smoke shelves, fireboxes and other hard to reach
areas.
DO NOT CONFUSE THE FUNCTION OF
TurboSweeper
with Sootsweeper
SootSweeperis a DUST COLLECTION system engi-
neered to filter clouds of fine soot and dust from the air.
SootSweeper. TurboSweeperfar exceeds the suction
power of a SootSweeper. Your TurboSweeperis
designed to pick up and contain larger deposits of soot
and debris rather than moving large quantities of air.
Be sure to READ AND UNDERSTAND the operation
Instructions, Safety Instructions, and the Warnings and
Cautions section before using TurboSweeper.
It is extremely important that you carefully examine your
TurboSweeperand all parts. TurboSweeperwas thor-
oughly inspected and carefully packed before leaving
Rutland Products. Responsibility for safe delivery is
assumed by carrier at time of shipment. Claims for loss or
damage to the contents should be made upon the carrier.
If damage is discovered upon unpacking, make request for
inspection by carrier's agent as soon as possible, but no
longer than 15 days after arrival.
If there is external evidence of loss or damage, you should
have it noted on the freight bill or receipt. The carrier's
agent should sign the bill or receipt

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
DANGER – Improper use of the grounding plug can result in a risk of electric shock or injury.
This vacuum/blower must be grounded. If it should malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of
least resistance for electrical current to reduce risk of electrical shock.
This machine is equipped with a cord that contains an equipment-grounding conductor and plug. The plug
must be inserted into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local
ordinances and codes.
If repair or replacement of the cord or plug is necessary, DO NOT connect the grounding wire to either flat or
blade terminal. The wire with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without stripes is the
grounding wire.
GROUNDING METHODS
This vacuum/blower is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit, and has a ground plug that looks like the plug
illustrated in Figure A. A temporary adapter that looks like the plug illustrated in Figures B and C may be
used to connect the plug to a 2-pole receptacle as shown in Figure B if a properly grounded outlet is not
available.
The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet (Fig. A) can be installed by
qualified electrician. The green colored rigid ear, lug, or the like, extending from adapter must be connected to
a permanent ground. such as a properly grounded outlet box cover. Whenever adapter is used, it must be held
in place by metal screw.
NOTE: In Canada, the use of a temporary adapter is not permitted by the Canadian Electrical Code.

CARE OF THIS VACUUM CLEANER
Treat this vacuum/blower as you would any other high-grade precision product. Dropping it, unreasonable
bumping across thresholds and other misuse may result in a damaged unit which will not be covered by
warranty.
When not in use, power cord should be wrapped around motor head for storage.
Read this manual completely before operating vacuum. It is important to follow instructions in manual to
prevent the possibility of injury or damage to the user and/or machine.
SPECIAL NOTE
The head assembly is the most critical and complex component of TurboSweeper. It’s self-cooling, by-pass
motor should be used for DRY PICK-UP ONLY! The head assembly should never be subjected to
excessive abuse. Never intentionally drop the unit or use it as a stepstool. Although the materials used to
construct TurboSweeper are heavy-gauge, abuse and mishandling may cause serious distortion of the
sealing edge, resulting in loss of cleaning power.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If loss of suction power occurs, the following steps should be taken:
√Check the crushproof vinyl hose for physical damage or
internal blockage.
√Check the body rim for dents. Double check to make
sure there is a positive seal.
√Make sure the filter assembly is clean and free of dust.
√Check the metal hose attachment for obstructions.
√Check the filtering system for proper seating on the
body.
Your TurboSweeper should provide years of service if
you heed instructions, warnings and cautions contained in
this manual.
