Introduction
Novameta exhaust hoods are designed to fulfill the highly demanding needs of commercial catering
industry.Awiderangeofexhausthoodsisavailabletoservedifferentapplicationsandprovideefficient,
highperformanceexhaustventilationsolutionsforlight,mediumandheavydutyapplications.Novameta
exhaust hoods, as well as filters have been tested at Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) and
laboratories of FORCE TECHNOLOGY (Denmark) using the cutting edge CFD (Computational Fluid
Dynamics)analysisandanumberofexperimentalinvestigationsinordertodeterminethecharacteristics
and behaviour of Novameta exhaust hoods. Novameta hoods are provided with full technical
characteristics,whichallowtoselectthemostappropriateexhaustfanforthekitchenventilationsystem,
aswellastoconvenientlyset‐uptheexhausthoodsaccordingtotherequiredexhaustflowrates.
This manual explains how to install,operateandmaintaintheNovameta exhaust hood. In case you
encounter any additional questions in connection with installation, operation and maintenance, please
feelfreetocontactyourlocaldistributororNovametadirectly.
Recommendations
UponreceivingapurchasedproductfromNovameta,inspectimmediatelyforanyvisiblesignsofshipping
damageandnotifythecarrierIMMEDIATELYifanydamageisfound.Itmustbereportedinwritinginthe
CMR. When removing the unit fromitspackingcase,becarefulnot to dent or scratch outer surface. A
claimshouldbefiledwithcarrierifappropriate.
Allitemsarethoroughlyinspectedandcarefullypackedbeforeleavingourfactory,thusNovametacannot
acceptresponsibilityforanyshippingdamage,howeverNovametawillassistinfilingaclaim.

andhoodsforextractingheatandsteamonly.Exhausthoodswithfilterscomeintwotypes–wallcanopy
hoodsareusedwhencookingappliancesarearrangedalongawallandislandhoodsareusedovercooking
equipmentwhich isinstalledin themiddle ofthe kitchen,where nowall exists.Exhaust hoodsarealso
availablewithairjetandairsupplyfeatures.

1.2. Receivingequipment
Check the item for shipping damage before and after unloading the unit, and after removing all the
packaging.
The receiver of this product is responsible for filing freight damage claims. This equipment must be
openedimmediatelyforinspection.Allvisibledamagemustbereportedtothefreightcompanyandmust
benotedontransportdocumentsatthetimeofdelivery.
1.3. Warrantyterms
Novametaprovidesa Manufacturer‘swarranty forallof theequipmentagainstdefects inmaterialsand
workmanshipfor aperiod of1 yearfrom thedate ofshipment.Manufacturerundertakes toreplace all
inferiorpartstoproperqualitypartsormaterials.Incaseofafault,aproperlyfilledclaimisrequiredand
mustcontainallessentialinformationrelativetothefault.FaultypartsshallbereturnedtoManufacturer
forfurtherinspection.
The producer does not take any responsibility for damages that occur due to ignorance of cautions,
improper maintenance or mechanical damages of the unit, including those, caused during the delivery.
Thiswarrantyisnoteffectiveifdamageoccursfromimproperinstallation,misuse;iftheequipmentisnot
operatedwithinitspublishedairflowratecapacity,incorrectvoltagesupply,wearandtearfromnormal
usage,accidentalbreakage,damageoriftheequipmentisoperatedcontrarytotheuserinstructions.Any
expensesinconnectionwiththeinstallationorcostsofmakingadjustments(includingserviceprocedures,
traveltimecosts)ontheequipmenttocomplywiththesupplyatthepointofinstallationarenotcovered
bythiswarranty.Thewarrantydoesnotcoverifthedamageoccursduetonaturaldisasters;fire,ifrepair
servicewasmadebyunauthorizedperson.
2. Installation
2.1. Generalrequirements
The exhaust hood must be installed by qualified and trained installers in accordance with this manual.
Installation mustconform to alllocal electrical regulations. Forestimated exhaust hood weights, please
refertoNovametacatalogue.

IMPORTANT!
Inplaceswherewarningtrianglesand/orscrewsareusedtosecurecoversaroundelectricalparts,there
isariskofsevereinjuryifcoversareremoved.Therefore,coversmustonlyberemovedbyaservice
technician.
2.2. Installationofthehood
AllmodelsofNovametaexhausthoodsareinstalledfollowingtheproceduredescribedbelow.
1. Mountthehangingbrackets.Theexhausthoodsaresuppliedwithhangingbrackets(1)andfasteners
(2) (4‐8 pcs, depending on the model and size of the hood). All of the hanging brackets must be
utilizedformountingthehood.RefertoFig.1.
2. Installthreadedrodsintheceiling.Threadedrodsarenotsupplied.RodsofatleastM8shallbeused
tomountthehood.Thepositionsofthreadedrodsshallbealignedwiththepositionsofthehanging
brackets.
3. Position the hood on the floor, approximately under the final hood position. Uncrate the hood
carefully,exercisingcaution,toprotectthestainlesssteelor painted surface. Lift the hood up
steadilyfromitscorners.
4. Connect the threaded rods with the hanging brackets and secure the connection using nuts (not
supplied).
5. Makesurethebottomplaneofthehoodiseven.Therecommendedhoodinstallationheightfrom
theflooris2000–2100mm.
6. Incasethehoodcomesinmultiplesections,theadditionalsectionsofhoodshallbemountedusing
the steps provided above. After the sections are installed, the hoods shall be connected using the
suppliedconnectionelements(U‐channels).
7. Afterthehangingiscomplete,removetheprotectiveplasticcover.

2.3. Installationofcoverpanels
Coverpanelsaredesignedtobeinstalledaftertheinstallationofthehoodiscomplete.Panelscomeinseveral
partsandaresupposedtobemountedonthetopofthehood.Eachpanelcomeswithdouble‐sidedadhesive
tapepreinstalledatthebottomedge,aswellasasetofscrewsforconnectingthepanelstogether.The
installationprocedureisdescribedbelow.
1. Usingadampcloth,cleanthetopoftheexhausthood,allalongitsperimeter.
2. Removetheprotectivelayerofthepre‐installedadhesivetapefromthesidecoverpanelsandinstall
themontopofthehood,alongbothsidesofit.Thepanelshalladheretothehood.
3. Removetheprotectivelayeroftheadhesivetapefromthefrontandrearcoverpanelsandinstall
themonthetopofthehood.Thepanelsshalladheretothehoodandalignwiththesidepanels.
4. Usingtheprovidedscrews,thepanelsshallbescrewedtogetherasshowninFig.2.

2.4. Luminaires
Novametaexhausthoodsmaycomeequippedwithluminaires.Recessedfluorescent,recessedLEDor
plasticfluorescenttypesareavailable.Allluminairescomewithlampspre‐installed.Luminairetypeand
quantitydependsonthemodelandlengthofthehood(refertoNovametacatalogue).Specificationsof
luminairesprovidedbelow.FluorescentluminairesareequippedwithtubularT5fluorescentlamps,with
G5bases.LEDluminairesareequippedwithtubularT8LEDlamps,withG13bases.
Luminaires come fully pre‐wired with a light switch at the front panel of the hood, or with an electric
junctionboxinstalledonthetopofthehood.Inthelattercase,luminairescanbeconnectedtoaremote
switch.

All the units are tested by producertoassureproperoperation. The unitis intended for connection to
alternatingcurrent.
WARNING!Thisappliancemustbeearthed.
Connecting the unit to the improper power source can cause damage to the unit and invalidate the
warranty.
All electrical connections must be completed by authorized qualified personnel only. Before connecting
the equipment to the electrical power, make sure that the localpowerregulationsaremeetingtothe
requirementsindicated.Ifitisimpossibletoaccessajunctionboxaftertheinstallation,theremustbean
alternativemanualsafetyswitchoranautomatedsafetyswitch,activatedbydischargecurrent,installed.
Theratedvoltagemustnotbemorethan230V(single‐phase).Allearthingrequirementsstipulatedbythe
localelectricityauthoritiesmustbeobserved.
Luminairesareeasilyaccessiblefromwithintheexhausthoodforluminaireservicingandlamp
replacement.Plasticluminairescanbeaccessedbyopeningthesidelatches.Integratedluminairescanbe
accessedbyunscrewingtheboltsoftheluminairecover.Theluminairesmustbecompletelyassembled
beforerestartingoperationofthehood.
Alwaysdisconnecttheproductbeforeservicingorreplacinganyelectricalcomponent.
Ifoperatingfails,firstlooktoseewhethertheproducthasbeenunintentionallyswitchedoff,orwhethera
fusehasblown.Ifthefailurecannotbefound,contactyoursupplier.
2.5. Integratedexhaustfans
Exhausthoodsmayoptionallybeequippedwithintegratedexhaustfans.Inthiscase,exhausthoodscome
fullypre‐wiredandincludeafanspeedcontrollerinstalledatthefrontoftheexhausthood(unless

3. Commissioning
3.1. Airflowadjustmentdampers
Exhaust,airjetandairsupplyflowratescanbeadjustedandbalancedusingoptionaladjustmentdampers
(Fig.5).

3.2. Adjustingairflowratesusingpressureports
Exhaustandairjetflowratescanbefine‐adjustedbyusingthepressureports.Thisallowstodetermine
andsettheexhaustandsupplyflowratestothecalculateddesignairflowsbyusingamanometerand
referringtothepressuredropcharacteristics.Pressureportsareinstalledineachhoodandare4mmin
diameter.
Theadjustingprocedure:
1. Measurethepressuredropatapressureportusingadifferentialmanometer.
2. Adjusttheexhaustfanspeedand/oradjustmentdampersifnecessary.
3. Repeattheaboveprocedureifnecessary,untilthedesignairflowisset.

4. Operation
4.1. Generalrequirements
1. Theunitmustbeinstalledandoperatedwiththedesignedairflow.
2. Beforeputtinganexhausthoodinoperation,makesurethemake‐upairsystemisinstalledandis
capabletosupplytherequired85%oftheexhaustedair.
3. Whileexhausthoodisoperating,thegreasefiltersmustalwaysbeinstalledinthehoodinorderto
avoidgreasedepositintheexhaustsystem.
4.2. Installationandremovaloffiltersandcondensateplates
Exhausthoodsusedoverheatingequipmentareequippedwithcyclonicgreasefilters(HNPD,HNPA,HPPD,
HFPD,HNCD,HNCA,HPCD,HFCDtype) andthe exhausthoods usedwithdishwashing equipmentinclude
condensateplates(HKCDtype):

Thefanisoffwhenthecontrollerswitch(Fig.10)issetbelow MIN.To turn on thefan,turnthe switch
clockwise,theclickindicatesthatthefanisON.Thefanspeed can be increased by turning the switch
clockwiseuptoMAX.

5. Maintenanceandcleaning
5.1. Maintenanceandcleaningofexhausthoods
Inordertoensurethathygieneandfiresafetyrequirementsaremet,itisrequiredtoregularlycleanthe
exhaust hood. Cleaning intervalsdependontheintensityofkitchen use. For heavy duty kitchens, it is
recommendedtoremoveandwashthefilterseveryday.Forlightdutykitchens–filtersmustbewashed
atleastonceperweek.Greasecollectiontrough,aswellasgreasetraysmustbecleanedatthesame
frequency.Itisalsorecommendedtokeepthetheexhaustplenumclean.Greasefilters,removablegrease
traysandcondensateplatesaremachinewashable.
Exteriorandinteriorofexhausthoodshallbecleanedusingasoftclothandmildsoapsolution.Ifitisnot
sufficient,anon‐abrasiveliquidstainlesssteelpolishmaybeused.Alwaysrubalongthegrainofstainless
steelpolish.Strongalkali(pH>11)cleaningagentsshouldbeavoided.
Cleansingagentscontainingchlorideorcompoundsofchlorineaswellasothercorrosivemeans,
maynotbeused,astheymightcausecorrosiontothepanelsofexhausthood.
Toavoiddamagingthefinish,donotuseabrasivematerials,scratchingcleanersorscouringpads.
Whileexhausthoodisoperating,thegreasefiltersmustalwaysbeinsidethehoodtogatherthe
greaseinthecollectorinordertoavoidgreasedepositintheexhaustsystem.
5.2. Additionalrequirementsformaintenanceandcleaningofhoodswithintegrated
exhaustfans
Itiscrucialtokeeptheintegratedexhaustfanclean–itsignificantlyeffectsthereliabilityandlongevityof
theunit.Theexhaustfanmustbecleanedusingawetclothandamilddetergentatleastonceperweek.
ForItisstrictlyforbiddentoclean,washorrepairtheexhaustfanwhileitisconnectedtothemains–
doingsovoidsthewarranty.
Disconnect the integrated fan of the exhaust hood during cleaning process. Do not clean
exhausthoodwithwatersteamcleaner,waterjetsorpouringwateronit.Thismaycauseashort‐circuit
andvoidsthewarranty.
ATTENTION!Itisprohibitedtousetheexhausthoodwithintegratedexhaustfanswithoutthe
filters!Usageofthehoodwithoutfiltersvoidsthewarranty.
