C-Nav3050 receiver to the C-NaviGator III. The guide is split into sections that

Manual Conventions
Arial font is used for plain text in this document.
Arial italic font is used for settings names.
“Arial quoted” font is used for settings values.
Arial Bold font is used for button names.

Section 1 - Overview
This document is provides a detailed list of procedures to successfully connect
an Oceaneering®C-Nav3050®GNSS receiver to the C-NaviGator III control
display unit.
The connection can be made via Serial, USB or Ethernet, the document gives
each connection method its own section.

Section 2 - Serial connection
The C-Nav3050® GNSS receiver can be connected directly to a C-NaviGator III
using the supplied Y-Cable, Positronic 9-Pin Male to Ethernet RJ45 Plug & DB9S
(RS-232/1PPS) (P/N 94-310272-3006LFB) Or the alternative Y-Cable Positronic
9-Pin to USB & DB9(P/N NAV94-310273-3006LF C).
For full functionality the Green Y-cable with the RJ45 header should be
connected to COM1 and the Red Y-Cable with USB header is used with COM2.
Once these cables are attached to the C-Nav unit you then can pick either cable
to control the unit and connect it to the serial connection on the C-NaviGator II.

1. To add the device use the Ports menu found at:
Menu / Settings / Serial Ports
2. Press the Port the device is connected to the press on the Settings
button.
3. You then must assign the port you connected the serial cable into on the
C-NaviGator III. Assign the correct device type and baud rate for a
successful connection.
On the next page you will see the default settings for the C-Nav3050® GNSS
receiver.

4. Press OK to apply the settings.

This will change the Port 3 type to that of the C-Nav3050®with the specified
settings, if these are correct you will then begin to see quality control information
as shown in the following screenshot.

Section 3 - USB connection
The C-Nav3050® GNSS receiver can be connected directly to a C-NaviGator III
via USB using the supplied Positronic 9-Pin to USB & DB9(P/N NAV94-310273-
3006LF C).
The Red Y-Cable with USB header must be connected to COM2 for the USB
connection to be possible.
The only other consideration before attempting connection via USB is to make
sure the USB mode is set to “Serial”; any other USB modes will not allow you to
control the unit via USB with the C-NaviGator.
To check the current USB mode connect via Serial first following Section 2 -
Serial connection (Page 8) then go to the menu at:
Menu / Settings / Port X 3050 / more / Hardware Settings
If the USB mode is currently set to “Serial Port” then nothing needs to be
changed, if however it is not please change this value to “Serial Port” and press
Apply.

The receiver is now ready to make the connection via USB, Plug the USB cable
into an available USB port. With the latest C-NaviGator III software the USB
connection will be established automatically.
This can be confirmed at:
Menu / Settings / Serial Ports.
You will find an additional item in the Ports list detailing 3050:XXXXX where the
X’s would represent the receivers serial number.
You should now be able to switch to the connection via the
button.

Section 4 - Ethernet connection
The C-Nav3050® GNSS receiver can be connected directly to a C-NaviGator III
using the supplied Y-Cable, Positronic 9-Pin Male to Ethernet RJ45 Plug & DB9S
(RS-232/1PPS) (P/N 94-310272-3006LFB
The Green Y-Cable with RJ45 Ethernet header must be connected to the
receivers COM1 port for the Ethernet connection to be possible.
Ethernet connections made directly from the receiver to the NaviGator III via the
RJ45 head on the green Y-Cable connected to LAN port on the NaviGator III are
referred to as a ‘Direct Ethernet Connection’.
Ethernet connections made directly from the receiver to the NaviGator III via the
RJ45 head on the green Y-Cable connected to LAN port on the NaviGator III are
referred to as a ‘Direct Ethernet Connection’.
To set up the receiver it is required to make a connection via Serial or USB to
configure the network settings of the receiver, please see the earlier sections for
instructions on this.

Direct Ethernet Connection
Perform the following steps to configure the receiver for a Direct Ethernet
connection:
1. Connect to the C-Nav3050®GNSS receiver on an available port, such as
USB or a serial COM port, this is required temporally while the settings are
correctly entered.
2. Navigate to the following options menu:
Menu / Settings / System Network Settings
3. Under the System Network Settings configure the settings outlined below
and select “Apply” from the right hand menu.

In this configuration the receiver we will use the factory default IP address and
Netmask of:
IP: 192.168.0.2,
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
1. Navigate to the following options menu:
Menu / Port X 3050 / Next / Ethernet Settings

For this setup configure as below:
Both Receiver and Controller now should have IP address with which they can
communicate. To setup this communication at the C-NaviGator III end follow the
below:1. Navigate to the following options menu:
Menu / Settings / Network Virtual Ports
2. Press New.
3. Under the Network Virtual Ports configure the settings outlined below
and select “Apply” from the right hand menu.

A successful connection will show a status of connected, if this isn’t the case
please restart the guide from the beginning confirming all settings and in
particular the IP addresses are accurate.
Please note:
A power cycle of the receiver may be required.
