1. INTRODUCTION
The Ethernet Interface Option Kit provides a standard Ethernet interface for
Ohaus Explorer Series Balances.
Please read this manual completely before installation and operation.

COMPLY WITH THESE WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN

ALL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
1.1 Kit Contents

2. INSTALLATION
2.1 Safety Precautions
For safe and dependable operation of this equipment, please comply with
all safety precautions mentioned in this manual.
Note: Disconnect the equipment from the mains power supply before
beginning installation.
CAUTION:
The electronics of the Option are very sensitive to electrostatic discharges. In
order to protect the components, necessary measures must be taken when the
Option is installed so as to provide protection against electrostatic discharges.
2.2 Installation procedure
Please note the following:
The interface is installed into the Display and is powered by the Base.
Follow the steps below. Refer to the Figures when performing these steps.

Make sure Balance is unplugged
(turned OFF)

Detach the Display:
press buttons on both sides to
disconnect. Then pull Display away
from base.

Open the Display:
press button (enlarged in photo),
then lift Display until it disengages.

Unplug Display Communication
Cable, if desired, for greater
freedom of movement.

To release the clip that secures the
Display Communication Cable:
press out on both sides, as shown,
then unplug the Display
Communication Cable.

Remove the two screws holding the
Option faceplate using a screw-
driver. Remove this plate. Save the
screws, they will be used to install
the new RS232 interface board.
Note: Do not touch any items inside
the Display.

Install the new Ethernet interface
board into the Display. Take care to
seat the device properly in the slot.
Push interface board into the Display
securely to engage it.
Note: Be careful not to touch
electronic components. Only touch
edges of interface board.

Re-install the two screws.
Plug in the Display Cable
Plug in a standard Ethernet Cable
to the Device.
Close the Display.

Route the RS232 Cable out either:
1. Under the Base and out the
Back, as shown at left;
or…

2. Out the side of the Display,
through the groove near the
release button (either side),
as shown here.

Re-wind any unused cable:
First remove the Platform, Sub-
Platform or Wind Ring, and Wind
Shield (if present).
Then turn base over to rewind cable
around cable guides (if needed).

Turn base upright and re-assemble.
Reconnect power to Base
(power ON).
Use the Level Assist feature to re-
level the Balance prior to operation.
(See Instruction Manual, Section 2.4.)

3. OPERATION
Using the Ethernet Port to connect to a Local Area Network
After successful installation of
the Ethernet Interface Option,
the Ethernet appears as an
option on the Communication
Menu.
Press Ethernet to see options
for Device Settings and Print
Settings.
Press Device Settings to…
…see the IP Address, Port,
Default Gateway and Subnet
Mask settings.

The Port setting cannot be
changed.
Press IP Address to change
the setting.
Press Default Gateway to
change the setting.
Press Subnet Mask to change
the setting.

Now press Print Settings to
select from a menu of options.
For additional information on
the available print options, see
the Explorer Balances
Instruction Manual.
