1. PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
1. Working Principle
The piezoelectric component is used to drive the tuning fork and feedback
signal, which produces the resonation on the fork. When the fork comes
into contact with a material, the fork will release some frequency signal as
feedback. It will be converted into the output of the contact signal when
the circuit detects the frequency decrease of the signal.
The product relies on the damping effect by covering the testing material
on the tuning fork which reduces the vibration frequency of the tuning fork
and outputs a switch signal. Therefore, there is no signal amplification
circuit inside, which can eliminate the trouble of frequent sensitivity
adjustment due to the material change.

5. Sensitivity Adjustment
The OleumTech Tuning Forks are shipped calibrated from factory.
Typically, there is no need for any sensitivity adjustment.
OleumTech calibrates all Tuning Forks to water specific gravity (S.G. = 0.58
oz/in3or S.G.=1 g/cm3), at the trigger point located at 0.91” from the tip of
the tuning fork. Typically, hydrocarbon-based media typically found in
O&G fields have S.G that falls within the acceptable tolerances of
calibrated tuning forks and no field adjustment should be needed.
CAUTION: For most applications, the factory default setting meets
requirements and a sensitivity adjustment is not necessary. If an
adjustment is necessary, contact OleumTech Technical Support for
additional instructions.
When required, use a small flathead screwdriver
to rotate the dial clockwise or counterclockwise
to make minor adjustments to sensitivity. The
sensitivity will increase when the dial is rotated
clockwise towards the “H” position. The sensitivity will decrease when the
dial is rotated counterclockwise towards the “L” position. The default
switching point is at .91” (23 mm) from the tip of the tuning fork.
Adjustment Best Practices
If the S.G. of the testing medium is lowerthan that of water, then the
sensitivity of the tuning fork ideally should be increased to bring the
trigger point back down to its optimal position on the tuning fork.
If the S.G. of the testing medium is greater than that of water, then the
sensitivity of the tuning fork ideally should be decreased to bring the
trigger point back up to its optimal position on the tuning fork.
CAUTION: It is strongly recommended to test the trigger point using a
sample of the testing medium and make proper sensitivity adjustment to
ensure optimal performance of the Tuning Fork.
6. Fork Trigger Point
The default testing medium is set for water (S.G.=0.58 oz/in3or S.G.=1
g/cm3), and its default trigger point is about 0.91” (23mm) from the fork
tip.
If the testing medium’s Specific Gravity (S.G.) is lower than
0.58 oz/in3(water), the trigger point will move upward on the tuning fork,
which requires an increase in sensitivity adjustment.
Similarly, the trigger point will move downward if the S.G is greater than
water, which requires a decrease in sensitivity adjustment.
