How it works / construction diagram
The OLSBERG electric ventilation unit has two fans
which simultaneously purge exhausted air from, and in-
troduce fresh air to the room. The exhaust fan removes
the stale air from the room through a cross-ow heat
exchanger. At the same time, the fresh-air fan brings in
airfromoutside,throughthecross-owheatexchanger
into the room. A heat recuperation of up to 70% can be
achieved.Thefreshairandexhaustairltersprevent
penetration of dust and pollen and protect the ventila-
tion module from excessive contamination.
The fresh air which is introduced into the room is pre-
heated in the cross-ow heat exchanger by the ex-
hausted air.
Subsequently, the preheated fresh air is led by air outlet
openings of the top panel into the room. At low outside
temperatures the fresh air from outside can be heated
in a post-warming process. Any draughty feeling is thus
eliminated. The diagram shows the heat recuperation from the ex-
haust air, dependent upon the outside air temperature
andtheair-owvolume-whichisinnitelyvariablefrom
20 to 60 m³/h on the appliance itself - at a room tem-
perature of 20°C.

General
Please read this instruction carefully. It contains impor-
tant information on safety, installation, use and mainte-
nance of the Electric ventilation unit.
The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for prob-
lems occurring when the following instructions are not
adhered to. The appliances must only be used for the
function intended.
Delivery, Packaging, Recycling
The packaging of your high-quality OLSBERG Electric
ventilation unit has been limited to the minimum neces-
sary for safe transport and is made entirely of recycla-
ble materials.
The packaging and appliance parts have been marked
according to present requirements and/or possibilities
to allow the best possible disposal or recycling at a fu-
ture date.
Packaging materials, replacement parts and appliances
or components to be scrapped must all be disposed of
correctly according to regulations.
Disposal of old heaters
Old electric and electronic devices often con-
tain valuable materials. But they may also
contain harmful ingredients which were nec-
essary for their function and security. In nor-
mal waste disposal or incorrect treatment they
could be harmful to the environment. Please
help to protect our environment! Please do not
add your old heater to normal waste in any
case. Dispose of your old heater according to
the local regulations.
Instructions
for the Installer
Positioning and Installation
• The electrical installation of this appliance must be
carried out by an approved electrician or by trained
personnel.
• Local safety regulations must be adhered to.
• In bathrooms, the Electric ventilation unit is to be po-
sitioned in such a way that the electrical switch and
retractable rotary knobs cannot be touched by some-
one in the shower or bath. In humid rooms, the appli-
ance may be installed in Protection area 3 (according
to VDE 0100, Part 701).
• Make sure that the exterior grille on the fresh air and
exhaust air ducts are regularly cleaned. Installing the
appliance under a window aids this considerably.
Procedures to be followed
Following safety standards are to be adhered to at both
planning and installation stages:
• VDE 0100
(Construction of high-voltage installations up to 1000 V)
Choosing the position
The Electric ventilation unit is designed to be mounted
on an external wall, as the fresh-air and exhaust-air
ducting must be run to the outside. Preferably, a posi-
tion under a window should be chosen.
The wall must be able to take the weight of the appli-
ance. Please, therefore refer to the weight given in the
“Technical Data” section. If there is any doubt as to the
strength of the wall, consult an expert.

Device-side preparation for installation
The ventilation appliance should only be removed from
itspackagingneartoitsplaceofnalassembly.
Note:
Do not lift the appliance out of the packaging by
means of its top or front panel! The top and front
panels are only loosely tted!
• Unpack the appliance.
• Remove the front panel. To do this, push the front
panel approx. 1 cm towards the top side of the appli-
ance and pull it forward and away.
• Pull the top panel upwards out of the spring shack-
les, then tilt it towards the rear in order to remove it
from the slider (Fig. 1, Pos. 3).
• Remove the wall-mounting strip. To do this, remove
the screws (Pos. 1) and take off the bracket to the
rear.

Minimum clearances
The Electric ventilation unit shall be mounted ush to
the wall. Following minimum clearances must be ad-
hered to (Fig. 3):
• from the right-hand side panel
to remove the retractable rotary knob............... 10 cm
• from the left-hand side panel
to remove the retractable rotary knobs............. 10 cm
• above the top panel
to hinge open the top panel.............................. 15 cm
• The free ow of convection air into, and out of the
appliance must be ensured both at the top, and at the
bottom (recommendation: 10 cm) of the appliance.
• When mounting in niches or under projecting window
sills, a minimum height of 840 mm and a minimum
width of 865 mm must be available.
On-site preparation for installation
Beforetheapplianceisnallyinstalled,theexternalair
ducts and a suitable earthed socket 230 V~ must be
installed.
The appliance itself is always to be mounted using the
wall-mountingstrip(„A“,Fig.2),whichistobexedto
the wall with suitable material, dependent on the wall
type.
External air ducting
Before the appliance is installed, the appropriate exter-
nal air passages must be made in the outside wall. This
is done – dependent on the wall material – by installing
suitable ducting in the wall (if necessary with a protec-
tive grille on the outside end).
Round ducting “System 100” (external diameter
104mm)oratducting“System100”(externaldimen-
sions 54 x 110 mm) should be used.
Theairductsmustbecutoffushtotheinsideofthe
wall and should be run with a slight downward incline of
2-3° from inside to out!
The positioning of the ducts in the wall is determined
according to Fig. 3. The wall-mounting strip can be
used as a template to mark the positions (Fig. 2)
The left hand duct is always for the fresh air inlet and
the right hand duct is always for the exhaust air outlet.
The knock-outs in the wall-mounting strip are larger
than the external dimensions of the ducts!
Earthed plug and socket 230 V~
The appliance is of the plug-in type. An earthed socket
230 V~ is thus to be installed at a maximum distance of
50 cm below the left hand side panel of the appliance.
In order to prevent the connecting cable being seen
whentheElectricventilationunitisnallyinstalled,we
recommend, at least in new buildings, that he socket
be installed in the hatched area (“D”, Fig. 2) under the
appliance.
Plug the appliance in only after all installation work has
been completed!

Assembly
1 Opening the appliance (Fig. 1):
Remove the front panel. To do this, push the front panel
approx. 1 cm towards the top side of the appliance and
pull it forward and away.
Remove the top panel. To do this, pull the top panel on
the right hand and left hand side approx. 3 cm upwards
(until they slip out of their spring clips). Then tilt the top
panel towards the rear panel in order to lift it out of the
slider.
Remove the wall-mounting strip from the appliance.
To do this remove the two xing screws (self-tapping
screws with large head) in the oblong holes top right
and left!
2 Offer up the wall-mounting strip according to Fig. 3
inahorizontalplaneandxitrmlytothewall.
In order to avoid short-circuiting or leakage of air, it is
imperative that the wall on which the wall-mounting strip
ismountedbeatandsmooth.Ifthiscannotbeguaran-
teed, a suitable compensatory material must be placed
atthexinglocations.Intheareaoftheairducts,PU-
foam or silicon must be used to provide a seal between
the mounting strip and the wall.
Plugs and screws used to x the appliance must be
suitable for the type of wall on which it is to be mounted
(10 mm holes in the wall-mounting strip).
3Hang the Electric ventilation unit onto the wall-
mounting strip in such a way that the upper edge of the
appliance rear panel lies behind the upper edge of the
wall-mounting strip.
Align the cabinet approximately in the middle of the
wall-mounting strip, push it against the wall and x it
to the strip at the top left and right by means of both
self-tapping, large-headed screws (Fig. 1). The oblong
holes in the appliance rear panel allow a sideways ad-
justment of the appliance against the wall-mounting
strip of approximately 5 mm. Tolerances can thus be
compensated.
Thesealingstripsontherearpanelmustsitushonthe
wall-mounting strip.
4Close the appliance back up.
When replacing the top panel, rex the slider (Fig.1,
Pos. 3) and make sure that the locking bolt snaps au-
dibly into the spring clip element in the top of the appli-
ance side panels.
When replacing the front panel make sure that the 4
countersunkscrews(Fig.1,Pos.2)tintothekeyholes
in the front panel. Press the front panel downwards until
it locks.
Put in the device plug (see also the chapter “Electrical
connection”).
Electrical connection
The Electric ventilation unit is factory delivered as a
plug-in appliance.
The cable is at the lower left of the appliance and is
secured for transport with a cable binder.
Only plug the device plug into the protected earthed
socket when all mounting tasks have been concluded!
Commissioning
The following operations are to be tested once the ap-
pliancehasbeennally installed. For this the ventila-
tion module must be closed, otherwise the module is
de-energised.
• Fan regulation,
front rotary knob in the left side panel (Fig. 6)
• Operation mode switch,
rear rotary knob in the left side panel (Fig. 7)
• Post-warming regulator,
rotary knob in the right side panel (Fig. 8)
• Slider (Fig. 1, Pos. 3) to close up the air channels

Accessories
Round duct standard set; at duct standard set
With the round duct standard set, as well as the at
duct 1) standard set, short, straight outside air connec-
tions with exterior grilles (1) can be established. The
mounting wall (2) is directly penetrated.
The duct set is designed for a maximum wall thickness
of 500 mm.

If the mounting wall (2) should be penetrated with an
offset, for example to have the exterior grille (1) termi-
nate directly under a window sill, then in addition to the
atduct1) standard set, the extension set must also be
used.

there is increased resistance, which can result in in-
creased operating noise. For this reason, if possible
always use round ducts.

for the User
Closing the fresh air ducts
If the appliance is out of operation, the external air ducts
can be closed by means of the slider (Fig. 1, Pos. 3) on
the left hand side of the appliance.
The noise emission from outside is reduced through
this measure.
Setting 0 = closed; Setting 1 = Open
Operation
The operation of the Electric ventilation unit is done by
means of rotary knobs on the left hand and right hand
side of the appliance. A light press of the rotary knob
causes it to spring out; a further press pushes it back in
again. The rotary knob can be recessed at any setting.
Fan regulation
Use the front rotary knob (1...6) in the left side panel to
variably adjust the fan speed for fresh air and exhaust-
ing air.
Knob setting 1: Minimum setting - approx. 20 m³/h
Knob setting 6: Maximum setting - approx. 60 m³/h
We recommend the setting 2-3 for continuous operation
(dependent on the size of the room). If increased venti-
lation is necessary, the fan speed should be temporar-
ily increased. This naturally also increases the noise of
operation.

0
Ventilating with thermal recovery without post-warming
is intended for summer operation, and with post-warm-
ing is intended for winter operation to avoid draughts
due to cold incoming air. The level to which incoming
air is post-heated is set on the post-heating regulator.
To save energy the device can be switched off in rooms
that will not be heated for longer periods of time.

Post-warming regulator
Use the rotary knob (1...6) in the right side panel to
variably adjust the temperature for post-warming of the
fresh air.
Knob setting 1: approx. 3°C
Knob setting 6: approx. 32°C
The lowest possible setting at which no draughts can be
perceived should be set.

Care and maintenance
• The care and maintenance intervals for the Electric
ventilation unit are very dependent upon the location
and operating conditions to which they are subjected.
It is recommended, however, that this work be done
at least once a year.
• Maintenance consists essentially of occasional moni-
toring of the radiator and the air ducts for dust as well
as a regular cleaning of the lters and possibly the
cross-owheatexchangerandthecondensatesump.
• The external grilles of the air ducts are to be cleaned
according to the general outside conditions - howev-
er, at least once a year.
• Thecross-owheatexchangercanbecleanedusing
hotwaterwithnormalhouseholdcleaninguid.Take
care not to damage the heat exchanger. The cross-
owheatexchangermustbedrybeforereplacingit.
• Do not clean the surfaces of the appliance with „soft-
scrub“ or other abrasive cleaners. Always use a nor-
malhouseholdcleaninguid.
Before undertaking any maintenance or cleaning
workontheappliance,rstremovethefrontpanel(B,
Fig. 10). To do this it must be pushed approx. 1 cm up-
wards and the removed towards the front.
In order to clean the parts in the ventilation module
(C, Fig. 10)(cross-owheatexchanger,fresh-airlter,
exhaust-airlter,condensatesump),thesealingpanel
(D, Fig. 10)mustrstberemoved.Todothis,pushthe
locking mechanism (E, Fig. 10) at the bottom of the
sealing panel downwards. The panel springs out of the
locking mechanism and can then be lift forwards out of
the retaining lugs.
A contact switch at the bottom of the ventilation module
automatically switches off current to all electrical parts
when the sealing panel is removed.
The ventilation module parts are to be removed in the
following order (Fig. 9):
1. Removethefresh-airlter(1).
2. Removethecross-owheatexchanger(2).
Make sure that the front insulating part of the
ventilation module is not removed with the
cross-ow heat exchanger!
3. Removetheexhaust-airlter(4).
Note:
The exhaust air lter can be removed from the
ventilation module without having to rst re-
move the cross-ow heat exchanger.

Condensate indicator and
emptying the condensate sump
The condensate indicator (Fig. 9, Pos. 5) is located
atthebottom of the left hand side panel. The oat in
the observation glass indicates how full the sump is.
If the oat is at the top of the glass, the sump must
be drained. To do this, remove the front panel and the
sealing panel. Having done this the condensate can be
drained from the sump using the rear drain tube. To do
this, remove the rear tube from the condensate indica-
tor tube and pull it forwards out of the appliance. Then
hold the end of the tube down below the level of the
sump so that the condensate can drain off into another
vessel.
Cleaning the external wall ducting
In order to clean the air ducting in the external wall, the
ventilation module (C, Fig. 10)mustrstbecompletely
removed from the appliance. To do this, unplug the ap-
pliance, pull off the front tube to the (previously drained)
condensate sump and pull off the rotary knobs in the
left hand and right hand side panel. After this, the ven-
tilation module can be pulled forwards out of its spring
locks (F, Fig. 10).
The parts are to be replaced in the reverse order to
which they were removed. The following important
points are to be complied with here:
• The cable on the left hand side must not run behind
the ventilation module, but must run along the side
of it.
• The ventilation module must sit ush on the rear
panel of the appliance. To do this, set the ventilation
moduleontheapplianceoorplate(G,Fig. 10) and
push it into a position in which the spring locks on
both parts are facing each other. Then push the venti-
lation module into the spring locks.
• Replace the condensate sump indicator.
• Replacing the rotary knobs. When replacing the ro-
taryknobs,ensurethattheproleoftheinsideofthe
rotaryknobtswiththatoftheregulatorspindle.On
the right side of the device also ensure that the axial
extensionisttedon.
• Replacing the front panel. When replacing the front
panel make sure that the 4 countersunk screws
(Fig. 1, Pos. 2)tintothekeyholesinthefrontpanel.
Push the front panel downwards as far as it can go.
The parts are to be replaced in the reverse order (see
Fig.9) to which they were removed. The following im-
portant points are to be complied with here:
• The exhaust-air lter (4) (white, lter class EU5/F5)
sits with its smooth side towards the condensate
sump.Theltermustbeinsertedrmlyintotheslots
provided in the insulation parts!
• Insert the condensate sump (3) in such a way that it
sits with its rear edge in the slot provided in the rear
insulation part and with its right side under the drip
rimofthecross-owheatexchanger.Thecondensate
sump must not extend out of the ventilation module.
Replace the tubes on the lower side of the conden-
sate sump.
• The cross-ow heat exchanger (2) is to be inserted
with the drip rim at the lower left, so that it sits under
the condensate sump.
• Thefresh-airlter(1)(white,lterclassEU5/F5)sits
withitssmoothsidetowardsthecross-owheatex-
changer.
• Insertallpartsinsuchawaythattheysitushtothe
guide slots and/or on to the supports.
• Hang the sealing panel over the ventilation module in
suchaway,thatitsitsushandformsaseal.Inor-
der to create a seal, the panel must be hung over the
ventilation module and then hinged downwards until
a backward pressure is felt. Ensure that the pin at the
bottom of the sealing panel sits back in the opening
for the contact switch, and that the switch is operated
correctly. In this position, lightly press on the sealing
panel with one hand until the bottom locking mecha-
nism engages.
Filter monitoring and changing
Therateatwhichthelterbecomesdirtyisessentially
dependent on the conditions under which the appliance
is installed and operates.
Dirty lters reduce the air-ow through the appliance.
Slightly soiled lters should be freed of dust and re-
placedintheappliance.Heavilysoiledltersshouldbe
completely replaced with new ones.
The appliance is factory set to prompt a lter change
after 2000 hours of operation. This is done by means of
a 3-time ring, which repeats every 5 minutes. Replace
thelteraccordingtochapter„Careandmaintenance“.
Reset the operating hours to 0 as follows:
• Remove the appliance plug from its socket.
• Set the fan regulation rotary knob to 1 (lowest set-
ting)
• Plug the appliance back in, a ringing tone sounds in
short intervals for a maximum of 2 minutes.
• Set the fan regulation rotary knob to 6 (highest set-
ting). The ringing tone stops.
• Set the fan regulation rotary knob to the required
speed.

Procedures to be followed
• Do not block the free passage of convected air below
the appliance. Do not block the air intake below the
appliance!
• Do not block the free passage of convected air above
the appliance. Do not block the air outlet slots at the
top of the appliance!
• The Electric ventilation unit is conforming to valid
safety regulations. Repairs and service to the appli-
ance must only be carried out by a competent electri-
cian.
Trouble shooting
If the Electric ventilation unit should not work for any
reason,pleaserstcheckthefollowingprocedures:
• Is the appliance plugged in?
• Are the circuit breakers in the distribution box loose
or defect?
• Are the rotary knobs in the OFF position?
• Is the slider open (Position 1)?
• Is the ventilation module sealed?
