Broan SmartSense Owner's manual

Congratulations on your
new home purchase!
As part of the ENERGY STAR® Home package, a unique whole
house ventilation system has been included. The Broan
SmartSense® system provides a healthier home by moving
out stale inside air and exchanging with fresh outside
air. This ventilation system is designed to run at
various times during the day to exchange the air
but is extremely quiet so you’ll never notice the
automatic operation. Plus, Broan SmartSense®
can be used for intermittent ventilation since
it’s designed to operate “on-demand” as well.
Broan SmartSense® is also a very efficient system rated by
ENERGY STAR® and uses minimal electricity when operating. Broan
SmartSense® also monitors all manual (“on-demand”) operation and
adjusts the automatic run time to eliminate over-ventilation and
energy use.
Broan SmartSense® has been programmed by the
HVAC contractor to operate automatically for optimum
performance. However, there are some operation features
that the home owner can choose to set the system to
perform.
Vacation Mode: Temporarily disables the Broan
SmartSense® system. The fan will not operate
automatically when in this mode.
The Vacation Mode is simply canceled by
pressing the control switch.
Delayed-Off: Turns the fan off 20 minutes after the
“OFF” paddle has been pressed once. This is to
ensure that moisture has been removed from the
bathroom when bathing.
Disabled Mode: This mode excludes the system from
operating in the automatic setting but allows for the
fan to be operated “on-demand”.
The programming of these features is a simple process by
using the control switch to select the programming function
and adjusting accordingly. Please see the other side of this
sheet for additional programming information.

Programming Features of your Broan SmartSense® System
Vacation Mode:
1. Make sure the fan is OFF, press “OFF” paddle.
2. Press and hold the “ON” paddle for 10 seconds until LED light displays slow-blink, then release.
3. Press and hold “ON” paddle to go into Vacation mode.
4. Press “ON” paddle to activate Vacation mode (or “OFF” to deactivate mode).
5. Then, press and release “SET” button to exit. Fan will turn ON, then OFF to confirm setting.
6. To exit Vacation mode once programmed, you may simply press “ON” to re-activate automatic operation.
Delayed-Off:
1. Make sure the fan is OFF, press “OFF” paddle.
2. Press and hold the “OFF” paddle for 10 seconds until LED light displays slow-blink, then release.
3. Press and hold “OFF” paddle to go into Delayed Off Mode.
4. Press “ON” paddle to activate Delayed Off.
5. Then, press and release “SET” button to exit. Fan will turn ON then OFF to confirm setting.
6. Your fan will now run for 20 minutes after manual operation of “ON”, then “OFF” to ensure ample
operation time to exhaust moisture after bathing.
7. To exit Delayed OFF, follow above steps 1 through 3, then press “OFF” paddle to turn OFF.
8. Then, press and release “SET” button to exit. Fan will turn ON, then OFF to confirm setting.
Disabled Mode (Not Recommended):
1. Make sure the fan is OFF, press “OFF” paddle.
2. Press and hold the “ON” paddle for 10 seconds until LED light displays slow-blink, then release.
3. Press and hold “OFF” paddle to go into Disabled Mode.
4. Press “ON” paddle to activate Disabled Mode .
5. Then, press and release “SET” button to exit. Fan will turn ON, then OFF to confirm setting.
6. In Disabled Mode, fan will operate only when paddle is pressed “ON”. This mode requires you to press
“OFF” to turn the fan OFF.
7. To put fan back into automatic operation, follow above steps 1 through 3, then press “OFF” paddle to
return to automatic mode.
8. Then, press and release “SET” button to exit. Fan will turn ON, then OFF to confirm setting.
