Manual and automatic operation
A sufficient quantity of combustion air must be provided (calculation is required). Use
caution in regard to the utilisation of ventilation systems, fume hoods, etc.!
To avoid any errors, please first carefully read our assembly instructions!
The respective national or local regulations and general provisions, stipulations and
codes of practice must be complied with!
CAUTION: Due to the thermal expansion of the door unit, a space of at least
4 mm must be provided all around the mounting frame and the stove shell. The
space must be filled with a soft sealing strip.

The following materials are required for the assembly of the Ortner storage corner
Fibre mat strips (for sealing between the ceramic and the metal parts), included in the delivery
Bedding mortar HK for the bonding of the combustion chamber jacket, included in the delivery
Open-end spanner 30 mm or pipe wrench for the height adjustment of the base frame
Allen keys –set

Important information before the installation
Check the rotary air damper (the locking plate must be removed in the event of manual operation)
in regard to its function and ease of operation. Check all screws on the frame and retighten, if
necessary.
Shell components (red) must always be made gastight with Ortner bedding mortar HK.
Refractory concrete parts (grey) are always installed dry (no bonding). In this manner, they can always be
replaced via the door.
All grey refractory concrete parts have already been cut to the correct dimensions.

Insert the provided fibre strips on the
connection points between metal and
ceramic.
Set up the base frame, level the bottom part
and if necessary, connect the aluminium
flexible hose for the combustion air supply.
Loosen the screws of the metal strips on the
frame (contact surface with jacket
components) and on the tabs on the base
frame.

First position the 1st row of the jacket parts
dry on the fibre pads in the base frame.
The first row is only bonded at the front sides
towards each other using bedding mortar HK.
Now press the bottom clamping strip against
the jacket bricks and secure these with the
screws.
Now align the 1st row horizontally and
vertically.
Then place the remaining jacket parts
together on top of each other with bedding
mortar HK (joint thickness approx. 3 mm). Be
careful not to close off or contaminate the
inlet air gap on the base frame with bedding
mortar HK.

Insert the first two rows of GOS in the
combustion chamber. No bond is created in
the course of this.
The designation of the bricks relates to the
number of segments.
Place the base plates and the ash bricks in the
combustion chamber (do not bond!)

Now install the remaining rows of the GOS. In
the course of this, in places a 6 mm air gap
must be created between the bricks.
Caution: The GOS without nubs must be
placed in the top row.
Joint pattern GOS:
An OPEN joint must be created after the 2nd,
3rd and 4th row GOS.
Install the parts of the post-combustion
chamber dry. In the event of joints that have
not been closed (depending on the joint
thickness when erecting the red jacket
bricks), the joints must be sealed with
ceramic fibre. However, the parts of the post-
combustion chamber should not be bonded
with each other.

Position the deflection plate on the GOS and
always slide this to the very back and to the
side of the burn-out.
Now position the cover of the post-
combustion chamber.

Bond the cover of the jacket with the side
parts.
Use ORTNER bedding mortar HK for this task.
Caution: The minimum distance between the
cover of the post-combustion chamber and
the jacket cover must be at least 12 mm.

General information
Neither combustible nor explosive substances may be located in the installation space of the stove.
The SE9 73/46/38 may not be installed in spaces with insufficient combustion air supply. (CAUTION: Please
note that newly constructed or renovated buildings can be very airtight and as a result, a sufficient combustion
air supply may not be possible without additional equipment.) A sufficient dimensioning of the supply lines
must be ensured in the event of external combustion air supply.
Calculation required.
Air grates for the combustion air supply must be arranged in such a manner that they cannot be easily blocked
off.
The SE9 73/46/38 may not be operated in installation spaces that are ventilated by means of fans in ventilation
or heating air systems with the exception that the safe operation of the stove can be ensured.
This means:
-A simultaneous operation of an air extraction system and the firing installation must be prevented.
-The negative pressure in the installation space must be prevented automatically and reliably by
means of corresponding safety equipment
-Overall, the negative pressure generated as a result of the combustion air flow of the tiled stove
heating operation and the volume flows of the ventilation systems in the installation space and the
rooms connected via the ventilation system may not exceed a value of 4 Pa. This must also be ensured
in the event of the adjustment or removal of easily accessible control devices of the ventilation
system (external air connection required).
-The system may only circulate the air within a room.
No combustible objects may be located at a distance of 80 cm to the firebox door (radiation range).
Attention must be paid in regard to the installation surface that no combustible materials are located to the
side or behind the stove at a distance of 20 cm. Additionally, the ground must have sufficient loading capacity
and must be incombustible.
The installation of firing installations is only permitted at those locations in which a sufficient loading capacity
of the installation surface is ensured and the installation surface may not be combustible. Should this not be
the case, then additional measures must be taken to achieve this (e.g. incombustible board for the distribution
of the load).
In regard to the covering of the stove, attention must be paid that corresponding cleaning openings are
provided. The regular cleaning of the chimney may only be performed by a licensed specialist.
Furthermore, attention must be paid during the construction of the covering that components such as the
control, temperature sensor, air damper and actuator are accessible at all times. The wiring of the door contact
switch and temperature sensor must be implemented in a removable manner.
This firing installation is suitable for multiple connections to the chimney, however, the self-closing function of
the firebox door must be active (springs in the door frame must be tensioned).
The construction and dimensions of the ceramic hot gas flue may be designed in an individual manner.
The design of the ceramic hot gas flues must be performed for the Ortner KMS using the Ortner calculation
programme (storage mass of the ceramic hot gas flue approx. 380 kg, will significantly affect the assembly
situation), and for the construction of chamotte flues in accordance with the technical directive on stove and
air heating construction (applies to Germany) or the tiled stove calculation programme (EN 15544).
CAUTION: The ceramic disc can fracture during operation due to a mechanical overload, this will result in sharp
parts (risk of injury).

Fire and heat protection
General:
Mounted surfaces made of or containing combustible materials (components to be protected) must be insulated or
shielded, so no temperatures can occur on these that exceed values greater than 85 °C. The same applies to built-in
furniture. The building requirements of the respective state building regulations and state ordinances (e.g. fire code
ordinance, guideline of the Austrian institute of construction engineering “OIB”, …) must be adhered to.
In the event that ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS and/or ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS are present in/on the mounting wall,
then the fire protection must be implemented as follows:
Electrical installations and/or electrical components on the side facing the stove Construction of the
insulation just as the mounting surfaces TO BE PROTECTED.
Electrical installations and/or electrical components on the rear of the mounting wall, wall thickness greater
than 12.5 cm and mounting wall detached at the rear Construction of the installation just like with mounting
surfaces NOT TO BE PROTECTED.
Mounting surfaces TO BE PROTECTED
10 cm brick lining + 10 cm insulation (in accordance with AGI Q132).
In the event of the use of Ortner Isoboard: 10 cm brick lining + 9 cm Ortner Isoboard.
Or 3 cm Isoboard at the mounting wall + active back ventilation (at least 5 cm gap width) + 6 cm Ortner Isoboard
(towards the stove, with offset joints).
Mounting surfaces NOT TO BE PROTECTED
8 cm insulation (in accordance with AGI Q132).
In the event of the use of Ortner Isoboard: 6 cm Ortner Isoboard.

General
1) When using substitute insulation materials, these may only be processed with processing media in accordance
with the specifications of the officially recognised suitability certificate (applies to Germany).
2) When dimensionally stable substitute insulation materials are used without brick lining, then these boards
must be constructed with at least two layers.
In the course of this, no continuous joints may be created and any utilised plugs may solely be used in the
bottom layer.
3) During the construction of back ventilation, the inflow and outflow openings may not be lockable and must be
at least 75% of the available cross-section of the entire back ventilation. The airflow path of the back ventilation
must be at least 50 mm wide and it must be possible to clean it along the entire area. It must be possible to
clean active back ventilation at least once a year.
4) In the event that a floor is located in front of the stove made of combustible materials, then it must be
protected with a coating made of incombustible material (e.g. sheet metal), from the firebox opening forwards
at least 30 cm and at least 10 cm to the side.
5) When containers, drawers, etc. are to be integrated in the firing installation, then it must be prevented that
embers or burning material can fall into them from the firebox. Furthermore, temperature values greater than
85 °C may not occur in the containers. Circulating air or combustion air supply through fuel containers that can
be filled completely must be prevented.
6) When the installation area is made of combustible materials, then the floor situated in front of it must be
protected with a non-combustible stable board (loading capacity must be sufficiently high) and a sufficient
quantity of insulation.
7) When the covering of the stove reaches up to the building ceiling and the ceiling is made of combustible
materials, then it must be sufficiently insulated with suitable materials.
(Caution is required with combustible building materials Fire protection)
8) In the event that more stringent provisions / stipulations apply in regard to fire protection at the installation
site than those specified here, then these must be strictly observed!

1) Mounting wall: When the mounting wall is comprised of combustible materials, then these must be protected
by means of the fire protection measures specified above.
2) Brick lining: When the components are made of mineral, non-combustible building materials (e.g. aerated
concrete) located in front of walls to be protected, then these must at least have a thickness of 10 cm.
Mounting walls are considered as brick lining when they are at least 10 cm thick and are not made of
combustible materials.
3) Reference insulation material: In regard to the specification of the insulation layer thicknesses and the
insulation layer construction within these guidelines, the thickness of the stone or slag fibre in accordance with
DIN EN 14303 with a heat conductivity of 0.04 W/mK is generally viewed as a reference size. When using
substitute insulation material, a conversion must be calculated in accordance with this reference size to the
required layer thickness. Please refer to the respective officially recognised suitability certificates for the
corresponding calculation procedures, tables or diagrams.
4) Flue pipe/connection piece: When the chimney flue is routed through a combustible wall, then this must be
insulated sufficiently, ensuring that no temperatures can occur that exceed a value of 85 °C.
5) Ceramic storage mass
6) Heating chamber ceiling: The heating chamber ceiling CAN, BUT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE insulated. However,
when the covering is attached upwards to the ceiling, then insulation is required. The heat insulation can either
be performed with the reference insulation material or a substitute insulation material. In the event of a non-
insulated heating chamber ceiling, the distance between the upper edge of the firebox and the heating
chamber ceiling must be at least 10 cm.

8) BIS bricks: For the insulation of the KMS to the floor in order to prevent heat conduction into the floor.
9) Base for the KMS pulley system: This must be stable and may not be comprised of absorbent materials (no
Isoboard!)
10) Insulation of the floor: In the event that the installation surface is stable, however made of combustible
components, then floor insulation must be created. This can be performed with the use of a reference or
substitute insulation material. In the event of the use of Ortner Isoboard, this corresponds to a layer thickness
of 6 cm.
11) Stable base for load distribution: When the installation surface has insufficient stability, then this must be
compensated with a reinforced concrete slab. Then the concrete slab must be insulated with a reference or
substitute insulation material (e.g. 6 cm Ortner Isoboard).
12) Substitute insulation material: (e.g. made of vermiculite, calcium silicate, expanded clay or other mineral
building materials). Can be used as a substitute for the brick lining + reference insulation material. This must
have a general planning approval of the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) (German Centre of
Competence for Construction) as a usability certificate (applies to Germany). Please refer to the general
planning approval for the layer thickness of the substitute insulation material.
