Thank you for choosing our Saiyang electronics AIS9000 Class B Automatic
Identification System (AIS).
Please read the manual carefully before installation and using our products
to ensure correctly use and make the best use of its advantageous functions. Please
keep the manual properly in order to refer when troubleshooting and maintenance.
Warning: Please do not dismantle the machine. AIS product is a complex system.
Exchange any of its components can affect the working performance of the system.
Please contact professionals to commissioning the device.
Notes: Please correctly use the device. Set and use the product according to
regulations correctly. AIS terminal product is a part of AIS network system.
Wrong setting and misuse may affect the work of the whole AIS network and other
AIS devices from the other vessels.
Notes: Pay attention to the power supply. This device adopts 24V DC power supply.
Please check the provided voltage and polarity before connecting to the vessel
power supply. Wrong connection may cause damage and scrap of the device.

1. Product Description
AIS9000 is made up of a TDMA transmitter, two TDMA/DSC receivers, a AIS processor,
a CPU, a internal GPS receiver, power module and interface circuits, etc.
AIS9000 can work independently on two channels, set zero by receiving message
22 and work by transferring to other water channels.
The Class B AIS transponder’s two channels can work between Frequency
156.025MHz~162.025MHz water channels. The device’s default working channels are
Channel 2087 and Channel 2088. When the base station shift to the other working
frequency that is out of the above working frequency channels or 25KHz bandwidth by
remote control command, the device will convert to only accepted status.
Notes: Important Hints
1. The manual is mainly for operator usage. Initial settings of the device are
not provided in the manual. Please consult manufacturer and agent for
specific details.
2. The functions that described in the manual may have some differences of the
products you have bought. But it will not affect the normal usage of the
device.

The device has an internal GPS receiver, providing location, time, Course over
Ground (COG) and Speed over Ground (SOG) data. Positioning accuracy is about 10m.
When the device receives the message 17 from AIS base station, position data will
convert to high precision Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) position.
Accuracy can reach 1~2 meter(s).
When GPS do not positioning, the device will not transmit. But when the base
station adopts consulting ways to ask the marine radio for sending, the device will
get the basic time from consulting instructions and conduct one emission.

The Class B AIS transponder has five indicator lights: power supply, GPS, RX, TX,
troubleshooting; a SOS button. The definition is explained as follows:
Indicator Lights
Definition
GPS Positioning
Flash Green Light means GPS position is valid; Constant Green
Light means no valid GPS position.
RX
Flash green light means receiving AIS information. The more
flashes, the more AIS targets around or RX is working well.
TX
Flash red light means the device is sending the AIS
information.
Flash once means sending once. Sending once every 30 seconds
or 3 minutes normally, therefore, it is hard to observe its
sending. status.
Troubleshooting
Constant yellow light means there is something wrong with the
device.
Power Supply
Red light means power on.
SOS
Press the button, it will send the distress signal.
Notes:
1. Base station can remotely change the dynamic data emission intervals ( 5 seconds
to 10 minutes) by message 23 or set silence period according to different areas
or vessel type.
2. Factory set the default vessel type to be yacht.
3. Factory set the vessel MMSI to be 000000000

3. Installation
When choosing the GPS antenna installation location, please pay attention to
the following points:
Selected location should keep away from radar radiating wave, which will destroy
or affect the GPS satellite signal reception.
There is no obstruction in the line of sight of the satellite. Obstruction (such
as mast and so on) in sight will stop signal reception or extend satellite
searching time.
The higher the installation location, the better. On the one hand, it can avoid
obstruction; on the other hand, it can avoid splashed by seawater that will affect
reception.
Notes: Make waterproof treatment of the cable joints.

3.2.1 Installation location
Please consider the AIS VHF antenna installation location carefully. Compared to
analog communication, digital communication is more sensitive to reflection
interference from the obstructions of iron tower, mast, etc.

3.2.2 Notes to reduce the interference
AIS VHF antenna should be installed in the vertical location that is away from
conductive objects horizontally as far as possible. The level distance between
VHF antenna and conductive objects should be above 0.5 meter. VHF antenna should
not keep close to big vertical objects and be 360°vision without obstructions.
AIS VHF antenna should keep away from big power emissive source, such as radar
and other radio transmission antenna. The distance between the AIS VHF antenna
and big power emissive source should be more than 3 meters. It should avoid
radiating area.
AIS VHF antenna should be installed up or down of the original VHF wireless phone
directly.
3.2.3 Cable
The short the VHF cable length, the smaller the signal attenuation. If the cable
length is too long, please choose the low loss coaxial cable.
Make waterproof treatment for outdoor wire connectors.
Coaxial cable should be routed by separate signal channel and away from power
supply cable at least 10cm. If the coaxial cable crossed, please make the cables
90 degrees vertically. The minimum bending radius should be more than 5 times
of cable outside diameter.

Please pay attention to the following notes when installation.
The installation location should be of good ventilation;
Enough space to connect power;
Reduce vibration as far as possible;
Be far away from the devices(such as motor, dynamo, etc) that can generate
electromagnetic;
Be away from vent pipe and air hole.
3.4.1 Power Supply Connection
We suggest you adopt 24V direct current (DC) voltage.
Power supply connected cable should be 10A two core cable. Connectors are 2 cores
supplied randomly.

One to four pin of 8 pin aviation socket are RS422, five to seven pin are RS232.The
output signal format is standard NMEA0183 signal. The cable length should not exceed
20m.
After the installation is finished, please make initial data setting. The setting
contains MMSI, Vessel Name, Vessel Type, Vessel Call Sign, Vessel Length/Vessel Width.
Setting should be done via special software and finished by PC or special display
unit. For specific operation, please consult manufacturer or local agent.

Notes: One to four pin of 8 pin aviation socket are RS422, five to seven pin are
RS232. Please connect other devices correctly. Otherwise, this may cause wrong
connection or damage the product.

4. Maintenance
Inspection Item
Inspection Points
Connector
Check the connectors on the back of the main unit to see
whether it is firmly plugged. Unused connectors should
be covered by protective caps.
Cable
Check the cable to see whether it is damaged. Replace the
damaged one.
Grounding End
Check the grounding end to see whether it is rust. Clean
the ground end if it is necessary.
Grounding Wire
Make sure the grounding wire is firmly connected.
Installation
Screw
Check whether the screws are loose or shift. Reinforce
the screws if these problems exist.
Antenna and Cable
Check the GPS antenna and VHF antenna to see whether it
is damaged, fixed clamps are loose, waterproof tape for
connectors are damaged or leaky. If there is some above
problems, please solve the problems timely.
Clean the Main
Unit
Clean the dust on the main unit with soft dry cloth.
Do not use diluents, acetone, benzene and other organic
solvents, which will remove the paint or marks and make
the device deformed.
Please turn off the power switch when there are some internal problems or
over-current. Check the reasons before turn the power switch on.
Notes: Fuse can protect the internal circuit when over-current. Replace the fuse
of the same specification if necessary.

The following provides the common problems and solutions. If it can’t recover
normal work, please do not check the device’s inner parts by yourself. Any repair,
please ask the professionals for help.

3. If the unit can’t recover normal work, please do not
check the internal parts by yourselves.

1. Check the VHF antenna cable to see whether it is firmly
connected.
2. Check the VHF antenna or testing by replaced one.
3. If VHF antenna is normal and the device is still not
recovering, contact the manufacturer and the local agent
for repairing.

1. Check the MMSI to see whether it is normal. If the MMSI
is 000000000, the own ship will not transmit.
2. Check the GPS ship’s position to see whether it is
valid; If there is no valid GPS position, the own ship will
