2.1 Normative requirements
Observe the legal requirements applicable at
the installation location.
The current standards, regulations and guide-
lines apply.
2.2 Correct use
Safety in operation is only guaranteed if the
product is used correctly.
The “OV-DMC 3” measuring system is de-
signed for hydraulic adjustment of heating and
cooling systems.
The system is suitable for use in closed loop
central heating and cooling systems.
The system is exclusively for use with the
media given in the technical data section within
the stated temperature range (see 3.3 on page
25).
All standard Oventrop regulating valves can be
measured using the measurement equipment
provided.
Any other use of the product will be considered
incorrect use.
Observance of the operating instructions is part
of compliance with correct use.
Claims of any kind against the manufacturer
and/or its authorised representatives due to
damage caused by incorrect use will not be
recognised.
2.3 Modications to the product
Modicationstotheproductarenotpermit-
ted.Incaseofmodicationstotheproduct,
the warranty will become void. The manufac-
turer will not accept liability for damage and
malfunctionscausedbymodicationstothe
product.

Sanitary, heating and air-conditioning
specialists
Sanitary, heating and air-conditioning spe-
cialists are able to carry out work on heating
systems and potable water installations as a
result of their professional training, expertise,
and experience, as well as their knowledge of
the relevant standards and regulations. They
must be able to independently identify possible
dangers.
2.5.2 Risk of burns due to hot
components and surfaces

uids!
If the system has been in operation, there is a
risk of scalding as a result of the inadvertent
discharge of hot water or steam.

sures during operation.

2.5.4 Danger from electric currents!
Electric shock may be caused by leakage
currents when charging the product in wet or
moist environments.
fOnly use the power supply in dry, indoor
environments.
2.5.5 Risk of injury caused by damage
to the rechargeable battery
Gaseous or liquid substances may be dis-
charged as a result of mechanical damage
to batteries. These may be severely irritating,
ammable,ortoxic.
An electrical error, such as a short-circuit, may
resultinoverheatingandre.
External heating, for example that caused by
solarirradiationorheating,mayresultinreor
explosion.
fEnsure that the “OV-DMC 3” sensor is
sufcientlyprotectedfrommechanicaland
thermalinuences.
2.5.6 Damage to batteries caused by
deep discharge
If you connect the “OV-DMC 3” sensor to the
charger after the batteries have been deeply
discharged, the battery may heat up so much
thatitcatchesreorexplodes.
fBefore storing the appliance for long peri-
ods,chargethebatterytoatleast50%.
fWhen storing for longer periods, check the
batterychargeatintervalsof3to4months.
Charge the battery as soon as your soft-
wareshowsachargeoflessthan40%.
fThe ideal conditions are cool storage at a
chargeofaround50%.
fStore the product in a dry environment.
fYou can increase the service life of the
battery by not storing it fully charged.

3. Technical description
3.1 Functional description
The “OV-DMC 3” measuring system is specially
designed for the simple and rapid adjustment
of heating and cooling systems.
Communication takes place via Wi-Fi using
standard commercial smartphones, tablets,
notebooks, and PCs.
The “OV-DMC 3” also enables permanent re-
cordingofthedifferentialpressureandtheow
rate. This means that system conditions can be
recorded over longer periods of time.
Thesupplyowandreturnowtemperatures
can be simultaneously measured using an ex-
ternally connected PT1000 temperature sensor.

packaging.

6. Commissioning
6.1 Installing the software
You can connect the “OV-DMC 3” measuring
system with a smartphone, tablet computer,
notebook, or PC via the Wi-Fi interface.
Applications for measurement and evaluation
using the “OV-DMC 3” are available for the
following operating systems:
• iOS
• Android
Apps for iOS and Android operating systems
are available in the relevant app stores (iTunes,
Google Play).

fInstall the software matching the operating
system you are using. Follow the informa-
tion in the applicable installation guide.
6.2 Connecting to the power
supply
Please note that the socket must be
in the vicinity and easily accessible
when charging the product so that
the power supply can immediately
be disconnected in the event of a
malfunction.
WARNING
Explosion and re hazard
If you use an unsuitable power supply
or connect the “OV-DMC 3” sensor to
the power supply when the batteries
have been deep-discharged, the bat-
tery can heat up so much that it catch-
esreorexplodes.
fTo charge the battery, only use the
power supply provided by Oven-
trop for this purpose.
fPlace the “OV-DMC 3” sensor on a
non-ammablesurfaceduringthe
charging process.
fDo not allow the battery to charge
without supervision.
f“OV-DMC 3” sensors with
deep-discharged batteries cannot
be repaired. Dispose of the prod-
uct appropriately.

The measurement process is de-

by dirty measuring hoses

The “OV-DMC 3” software enables valves to
be adjusted using a range of measurement
methods. During this process measurement
values(differentialpressureandowrate)are
given and displayed graphically. The supply
owandreturnowtemperaturescanaddition-
ally be determined if temperature sensors are
connected. The measured values are used to
determine, display, and log the presets for the
valves.

9. Troubleshooting
9.1 Low charging status
Iftheappliance'sbatterychargeisinsufcient,
the appliance will switch itself off automatically.
During storage, the charge reduces
due to self-discharge. The discharg-
ing process is heavily dependent on
thetemperature(approx.1%loss
per month on average).
fBefore storing the appliance for
long periods, charge the battery
toatleast50%.
fWhen storing for longer periods,
check the battery charge at inter-
valsof3to4months.Chargethe
battery as soon as your software
shows a charge of less than
40%.
fThe ideal conditions are cool
storage at a charge of around
50%.
fStore the product in a dry envi-
ronment.
fYou can increase the service life
of the battery by not storing it
fully charged.
WARNING
Explosion and re hazard
If you connect the “OV-DMC 3” sensor
to the charger after the batteries have
been deeply discharged, the battery
may heat up so much that it catches
reorexplodes.

9.2 Damage caused by falling

Aggressive electrolyte may discharge
from a damaged battery and lead to
chemical burns and poisoning.
fAvoid skin contact with discharged
electrolytes.
fClean up discharged liquids using
suitable equipment and dispose of
them appropriately.

10.1 Cleaning the housing
CAUTION
Danger of electric shock if liq-
uids penetrate the power supply
fIf connected, disconnect the pow-
er supply from the mains plug.

Damage to surfaces caused by
aggressive cleaning agents
fDo not use abrasive powders or
cleaning agents which dissolve
plastic when cleaning.
fIf required, clean surfaces with
a soft cloth. When dealing with
more severe dirt, moisten the cloth
slightly with water or use a mild
detergent.
10.2 Service department
Follow the applicable transport
requirements for LiFEP04 (lithium iron
phosphate) batteries.
Local regulations may prescribe
transport in specially-secured con-
tainers or disposal on site, especially
for damaged batteries.
fTransport the measuring system in its origi-
nal packaging.
fIf there is a defect, do not open the
housing. Send the product to the following
address.

11. Disposal
Directive 2012/19/EU WEEE:
Old appliances must not be
disposed of with standard
domestic waste, but must be
dropped off at a collection point
for the recycling of electrical
and electronic appliances.
fThe battery is permanently installed in the
“OV-DMC 3” measuring system and cannot
be removed. If the battery shows any
signs of damage, dispose of the product
appropriately.
Directive 2006/66/EC:
