Introduction
PX-8240 is a MCU controlled six-Zone mixing amplifier.
With the MCU in PX-8240 and other connected unit such as PPS-06, PWP-06, and PEX-8000 construct a
MCU data communication system.
It would

e able to expand output Zones and to have different announce mode o

ackground music (BGM)
and call signal.
With ID setting and PEX-8000 tree, the paging station can control up to 54 Zones.
6 microphone input can have 4 different mode of priority; it is convenient for different purpose of public
address system.
Optional music source is available fo

Built in pilot tone detecting system would be able to detect the whole system is under good operation
condition or not.

zPriority Mode Setting of microphone has four different priority modes.
z20KHz pilot tone switch to switch on/off pilot tone, and spare amplifier function will on/off accordingly.
zSystem mode setting to define call amplifier operation.
zPower Remote contact to trigger “ON” amplifier when the amplifier is under power switch “OFF” state.

System Installation Diagram
Front Panel
1. MIC 1~4 Level Control.
To adjust MIC 1~4 microphone level.
2. HI/LO Frequency Control for MIC 1~4
Adjust high and low frequency response of MIC 1~4.
Set at center click, provides flat frequency response.
3. MIC 5 /LINE 1~MIC 6/LINE 2 Level Control
To adjust MIC 5 ~ 6 microphone or LINE 1 ~ 2 signal level.

4. HI/LOFrequencyControlforMIC5~6orLINE1~2
Adjust high and low frequency response of MIC 5 ~ 6 or LINE 1 ~ 2.
Set at center click, provides flat frequency response.
5. REMOTE, SOURCE,AUX1~3LevelControl
To adjust SOURCE, AUX 1 ~ 3 level.
When REMOTE is selected, the external “wall panel” will be able to control the unit. (Refer to the manual of
“wall panel”)
If the SOURCE or AUX 1~3 is selected, user can adjust level by potentiometer.
6. Bass/Treble Control for SOURCE and AUX 1 ~ 3.
To adjust Bass and Treble frequency response for SOURCE and AUX 1 ~ 3.
Center click point provides flat response.
7. REMOTE, SOURCE, AUX 1 ~ 3 Select Switch and Indicators
TouchswitchtoselectREMOTE,SOURCEorAUXinput.
The indicator LED will light up when the REMOTE, SOURCE or AUX input is selected.
REMOTE, SOURCE and AUX inputs can be selected sequentially.
“REMOTE” is available only when the wall panel is activated.
8. MASTER Volume Control.
Adjust overall output signal level of the unit.
9. Power LED
When it is power on, the power LED will light up in blue color.
When it is power off, the power LED will be off.
10. Fault LED
LED will light up when the pilot tone detecting circuit find out there is no pilot tone signal
in internal or external amplifier.
11. “All ZONE” Switch and Indicator
Press the “ALL ZONE” switch, all of the output ZONE will be selected and the LED of every zone
will light up.
12. LED VU Meter.
To indicate output signal level.
13. ZONE 1 ~ 6 Select Switch and Indicators
Push switch to select output ZONE.
Each ZONE can be selected independently.
The green LED will light up when the ZONE is selected.
When any of paging station, TEL or MIC 1 is operating, the green LED zone indicator will be flashing.
14. ZONE Output Attenuators.
To attenuate output level of each ZONE by rotary step switch .
15. Optional Module Slot
The module slot is used to plug in modules, such as AM/FM Tuner, CD-MP3 PLAYER,
CD-MP3/SD-USB Player, Tuner/CD-MP3 / SD-USB, SD-USB, etc..

Rear Panel
16. Power Switch
Press rocker switch to switch on the unit. Press again to switch off the unit.
17. AC Line Voltage Selector.
Set the slide switch to select the AC Line voltage (115V/230V AC).
Note:
Never set the switch to wrong AC Line voltage, it will cause damage to the unit.
18. AC Inlet
To plug in the AC power cord.
19. AC Line Fuse Bracket
Insert fuse to the fuse bracket to provide protection for over current.
Note:
Always use fuse with correct current and voltage rating.
20. Chassis Ground
A Chassis Ground should be connected during installation
21. DC 24V Input Terminal
Input terminal to connect DC 24V power source.
Note:
Never connect to the wrong polarity of DC power source.
22. Direct Output Terminals
Direct Speaker output terminal voltage are 0 – 8Ω-70V-100V.
This is unable to be switched when other ZONE outputs are selected.
23. Power Remote ON/OFF Terminal
The unit is able to power ON by Remote control terminal when the unit is under power switch “OFF"state .
Short Remote Power ON/OFF terminal, the unit will be triggered to power “ON”.
If the unit is switched to power “ON”, this Remote Power ON/OFF terminal cannot control the unit.
When the unit is operated by DC source, it cannot be controlled by Remote Power terminal.

25. 20KHz ON/OFF DIP Switch
Whensetitat“ON”,pilottonehas20KHzsignal;
The spare amplifier can act as standby amplifier.
Whensetitat“OFF”,thereisnot20KHzsignal.
The standby amplifier will take over internal amplifier when internal amplifier is abnormal.
26. MIC 1~6 Priority MODE DIP Switch
Two digital DIP switches are used to set microphone priority MODE.
Set the DIP switch as follows:
00: MIC 1>2>3>4>5>6
01: The announcing MIC has the first priority
10: the new announcing MIC can override other MIC
11: All the MICs have the same priority.
27. Chime MODE DIP Switch
There are 2 pins of DIP switch to select the chime mode.
Set the DIP switch as follows:
00: Chime off
01: Chime 1 ( 1 tone )
10: Chime 2 ( 2 tones)
11: Chime 3 ( 4 tones)
28. CHIME VR
Adjust chime output level
Note:
Short the trigger contact pins of RJ45 (42) will create chime signal output.
29. AUX 2, AUX3
AUX 2 and AUX3 are RCA terminals to connect to external equipment’s output signal.
The Aux2 signal level is 200 mV, 10 KΩunbalanced.
The Aux3 signal level is 200 mV, 10 KΩunbalanced.
30. AUX 1 XLR Input
AUX 1 is XLR terminal to connect to external equipment’s unbalanced output signal.
The signal level is 500 mV, 10KΩ, unbalanced.
31. MIC 6/ Phantom/ LINE 2 Switch
By setting switch at LINE 2 or MIC 6, the input level can be switched.
Set at phantom position, there will be phantom power on to the MIC input.
LINE 2: 200mV, 600Ω, balanced
MIC 6: 1.5mV, 600Ω, balanced
32. MIC 6/ LINE 2
MIC 6 / LINE 2 XLR input socket can be connected to MIC 6 / LINE 2 balanced signal.

33. MIC 5/ Phantom/ LINE 1 Switch
By setting switch at LINE 1 or MIC 5, the input level can be switched.
Set at phantom position, there will be phantom power on to the MIC input
MIC 5 : 1.5mV, 600Ω, balanced
LINE 1 : 200mV, 600Ω, balanced.
34. MIC 5/ LINE 1
MIC 5/ LINE 1 XLR input terminal can be connected to MIC 5 or LINE 1 balanced signal.
35. MIC4 XLR INPUT
MIC4 is balanced microphone input
MIC4: 1.5mV, 600Ω,balanced
36. Phantom Power ON/ OFF Switch
Phantom power ON/ OFF switch for MIC 3~4
37. MIC3 XLR INPUT
MIC3 is balanced microphone input

40. PTT DIP Switch
Set the PTT dip switch at “ON”:
Mic. 1 will be muted . PPS-A can give speech to all zones with chime signal .
Set the PTT dip switch at “OFF”,
PPS-A will be same function as Mic. 1 but without chime signal .
41. Microphone Input of MIC 1
MIC 1 is balanced microphone input.
MIC1: 1.5 mV, 600Ω, balanced.
42. MIC 1 Input with RJ45 Terminal
This is MIC 1 input by RJ45 terminal. It is to connect PPS-A all call microphone
The pin assignment of RJ45 is as follows:

Short Trigger +/- pins terminal will activate Chime signal and let MIC1 have the priority to mute
other signal except TEL/ Emer. signal.
43. MOH Level Adjust
Adjust output level of MOH signal.
44. 8ΩMOH Output.
8ΩMOH output terminal for monitoring source module or AUX1~3 signal.
It is selected by (7) select switch.

45. BALANCED MOH Output
Balanced MOH output terminal for monitoring source module or AUX1~3, ( 600Ω, balance signal. )
It is selected by (7) select switch.
46. TEL/EMG 100V-0 input
100V input of TEL/EMG signal, it is convenient for long distance broadcasting.
47. TEL/ Emer. Input
Terminal for balanced Telephone/ Emergency signals input.
48. TEL. Level Adjust
Adjust Telephone signal input level.
49. Paging Station Terminal
RJ45 socket can be connected to Paging Stations.
It can connect up to 6 Paging Stations.
50. Wall Control Panel Terminal
RJ 45 terminal can be connected to Wall Control Panel PWP-06.
When wall control panel is activated, the remote LED will light up.
Then Wall Control Panel can control the ZONE output of main unit, select SOURCE, AUX1-3,
and adjust the Master output level.
51. XLR out for Ext. Amplifier
0dB,600Ω, balanced XLR output terminal.
It is the output of whole preamplifier stage with balanced signal.
It can be connected to Ext. Amplifier.
52. REC out
Record output RCA terminal.
It is the output signal before MASTER volume control.
This signal can be connected to cassette recorder etc. to record signal of preamplifier stage.
53. POWER in
0 dB, unbalanced RCA terminal.
It is for signal input of power amplifier.
It can be connected to the “PRE OUT ” RCA terminal or other signal source unit.
54. PRE out
0dB,600Ω,unbalanced RCA output terminal
It is the output of whole preamplifier stage
55. VOX Mute Level.
Adjust SOURCE, AUX 1 ~ 3 muting level during priority muting function is activated.
56. RJ45 Terminal to Zone Expander PEX-8000
Used to communicate with zone expander PEX-8000 by RJ45 socket.
57. Ext. Amp IN 0-100V
It is used for external Booster Amplifier IN.
In system Mode 1, external booster amplifier acts as spare amplifier
In system Mode 2, external booster amplifier acts as “call” power amplifier.
58. ZONE 1 ~ 6 Output Terminal
ZONE 1 ~ 6, each ZONE can be selected independently.
Each ZONE has 100V -0 terminals.

59. AM/FM Input Terminal

3. Installation
3.1 Open the packing box
1.Take out the unit.
2. Check the accessories.
3.2 Read the manual before install the system
3.3 (Optional) Install unit in rack
The PX-8240 is designed for table top use.
If user wants to use in the rack, please screw on the mounting bracket.
Please refer to the drawing.
3.4 Set correct AC line in voltage
Set the AC line voltage to correct voltage
Note:
Never set the switch to wrong AC line voltage. It will cause damage to the unit.
3.5PluginACcord
Plug in the AC cord. The unit is standby for operation.

4. Dip Switch Setting
4.1Setthemodedipswitch 24
Set switch downward------mode1
Set switch upward--------mode2
For mode 1, the BGM and call signal will operate in the internal amplifier of PX-8240.
The BGM signal will be muted when there is microphone or other higher priority signal is operating.
For mode 2, you can add additional external amplifier at a call power amplifier.
PAB-9120/9240/9360
Connect the EXT. Amplifier (51) signal output to the input of PAB-9120/9240/9360 and connect the speaker
Output of PAB-9120/9240/9360 to EXT. Amp In (57),then the PAB-9120/9240/9360 acts as a call power amplifier.
In mode 2, the call signal will go through the call power amplifier to announce on those selected Zones, and
The other Zones which are not selected during call announcement will remain to play BGM signal.
4.2 .Set 20KHZ switch.
Set the switch downward,there will 20KHZ pilot tone signal created.
The 20KHZ detecting function will be activated.
The external amplifier acts at standby amplifier (under mode 1)
when there is 20KHZ.
As soon as the 20KHZ pilot tone is not exist, it will be taken as abnormal,
the standby amplifier will take over the internal amplifier of PX-8240
The fault LED will light up.
Set the switch upward, the 20KHZ pilot tone will be OFF.
The 20KHZ detecting function will not work.

4.4 Set Chime mode
There are 4 different chime modes.
“0.0” Chime off

“1.0” Chime2
“1.1” Chime3
The Chime signal can be activated by PPS-A unit,
and PTT switch (40) of Mic. 1.
Note:
The paging station generate chime signal itself,
it will not trigger chime signal of PX-8240.
5. Microphone Installation
5.1 MIC. 1 Input.
There are two different way of MIC1 input.
One is XLR input, the other is PPS-A all call microphone input .
Set the phantom power ON and PTT OFF.
5.1.1. XLR input only
a. Set the PTT at “OFF”
b
. Insert the XLR input
The Mic1 will not have the priority to other microphone inputs.
5.1.2. XLR input and PTT setting
a. Set the PTT at “ON”
b. Insert the XLR input
The Mic.1 will override and mute all the other inputs except TEL/Emer/100V input.

5.1.3. All call paging station
a. Insert PPS-A to the RJ45 (32)
b. Set the PTT at “ON”
c. Press to give announcement. (There will be chime first when the PTT key of PPS-A is pressed .)
d. Release the PTT key of PPS-A to stop operation.
The Mic1 with PPS-A will override and mute all the other inputs except TEL/EMER/100V input.
5.1.4. Phantom power
Set the Phantom DIP switch at ON, it will supply phantom power for microphone.
5.2 MIC 2
a. Connect the microphone to MIC2 I/P.
b. Select the phantom power.
c. For condenser microphone, set the phantom power switch to “ON”.
For dynamic microphone, set the phantom power switch “OFF”
5.3 MIC3/MIC4
a. Connect the microphone to MIC3 and MIC4 input.
b. Select phantom power switch to ”ON”(downward) for condenser microphone
and to “OFF”(upward) for dynamic microphone.

5.4 MIC5/LINE1, MIC6/LINE2
a. Connect the I/P signal to MIC5 and MIC6 terminal.
b. The LINE/phantom/MIC select switch is to select different input signal level.
Set at LINE1/and LINE2, the sensitivity will be 200mV, it is available for music source signal input.
c. Set at phantom position, will supply phantom power for condenser microphone input.
d. Set at MIC5.MIC6, there will not be phantom power output, it is available for dynamic microphone.
6. Music Source Input
There are two kinds of input terminal for music source.
Both are unbalanced type signal input.
AUX1, 2, 3 can be connected to different music source, such as CD, Tape, Tuner…. Etc.
6.1 AUX 1
The AUX1 XLR input is connected to the external music source.
The signal is unbalanced type.
6.2 AUX2, AUX3
Use RCA Plug, the music source can be connected to AUX2 and AUX3.
6.3 Selection of Source, AUX1, AUX2, AUX3
The optional Source module (15) can be many different combinations such as CD-MP3/
USB/SD Card, CD-MP3 /USB/SD Card/Tuner, CD/SD Card,…..etc.
Press the select switch (7), the wall panel, Source module, AUX1, AUX2, AUX3
will be sequentially selected. The relative LED will light up also.

7. Connection of TEL EMG I/P “+/GND/-”and“0/100V”
7.1 TEL EMG I/P “+/GND/-”
The input of “+ /GND/ -”is a balanced input signal from telephone.
7.2 TEL EMG I/P “0/100V”
The 0/100 pick up signal from output signal of amplifier, it is used for long distance broadcasting.
Adjust TEL level to control the input signal level of TEL/EMEG..
8.MOH(musiconhold)
Two type of MOH O/P, one is balanced O/P signal, it can be connected to the input
of other monitor amplifier.
The other is monitor amplifier output for 8Ωmonitor speaker.
Adjust MOH level VR to control the output signal level of MOH.

9. Connection of paging station.
Insert RJ45 cable to paging station terminal and paging station unit.
Each paging station include one PPS-06 and 4 PPS-EX units, it can control up to 54 Zones.
It can connect 6 paging stations.
Each paging station should be assigned fix ID to identify the data communication address between
PX-8240 and paging stations.
All of the priority and chime mode setting are defined by the 1st paging station.
10. Wall control panel
With RJ45 cable to connect wall control panel to the PX-8240 by wall control panel terminal (50).
a. Press the activate push switch of PWP-06 and push the select switch of PX-8240 to select remote LED ON.
b. The wall panel can control the PX-8240.
c. The PWP-06 is able to control the Z1~Z6 output.
d. It is also can select music source and AUX1, AUX2, AUX3 by select key.
e. The user can give speech through microphone XLR input.
f. It can insert external LINE in signal to mix with microphone signal of wall panel.
Note:
If the remote LED of PX-8240 is not selected, the wall panel will be standby state.

11. Ext Amplifier &EXT Amplifier in.
An external amplifier can be connected to EXT. Amplifier XLR out (51) and EXT. AMP In (52)
The external amplifier can act as a spare amplifier or call amplifier.
It is decided by the mode settling dip switch (24).
Please refer to the mode dip switch setting.
12. REC out/Power in/PRE out.
The REC. Out RCA connector can be connect to tape recorder or other recording equipment to
record signal. Use shorting bar to short between power in and PRE out or use RCA cable to
connect with external audio processor.

13. Connection of output Zones: Z1~Z6
6 output Zones are controlled by Zone switch.
The output power is shared by 6 output Zones.
Installer should not connect load impedance lower than the rated impedance.
14. 0/8Ω/70V/100V output 22.
The 0/8Ω/70V/100 is a fix output terminal, it will not be controlled when other Zone
switches are operating.
Note:
The total equivalent load impedance should not be lower than the rated load impedance.
15. Power remote control
Power remote control terminal can switch on the PX-8240 by external control switch.
To implement this function, the power switch of PX-8240 should be at “OFF” position.
16. Back up battery connection

Two 12V batteries are connected to the DC24V terminal.
It will back up the power source when AC power is power off.
Note:
Never connect to the wrong polarity of batteries.
