AnalogueandDigitaltelevision-- whatarethey?
Analoguetransmissionisthesystemthathasbeenusedformanyyearsforbroadcastingtelevisionprogrammes.Withcontinuous
improvementsintechnologyitisnowpossibletotransmitprogrammesinadigitalformat,allowingclearerpictures,morestations
andotherservicestobedisplayedonscreen.Digitaltelevisionisprovidedinthree differentways;itcanbesentalongacable
connectiondirecttoyourhouse,broadcastfromasatellite,orbroadcastusingtraditionalland based(terrestrial)transmitters.The
firsttwo optionsrequireyoutohaveanextra‘settopbox’decoderandinthecaseofsatellite,areceivingdishmountedoutdoors.
Whileallowingyoutoreceivetraditionalanaloguetransmissionsintheusualway,thistelevisioncanalsoreceiveterrestrialdigital
servicesusinganintegrated(DigitalVideoBroadcasting)decoder.Thisallowsyoutoenjoytheneweraofdigitalterrestrial
television,includingfutureinteractiveservices,without theneedfora‘set top box’orsatellitedish-- yourcurrentrooforloft
mountedantennaisall you need.
