THOROUGHLY READ ALL INFORMATION BEFORE STARTING
Installing a Tueller Wall Easel from Paper Bird Studio & Design should be a relatively easy project. However there are a
few things that you should consider prior to beginning.
The wall easels have been designed to work with standard 2x4 stud framed walls. This does not mean that they cannot
be installed otherwise. However, the installation for any other type of wall will require alternate steps. Because the easels
were designed for stud framed walls, that is the only process these instructions will cover.
It can be very helpful to have a friend assist you with the installation (one person to hold the wall rails in place while
the other makes pencil marks, fastens screws into the wall, etc). If you nd that you are not comfortable with the tasks
outlined in this guide, it may be wise to hire an experienced handyperson or contractor to install the wall easel for you.
PARTS LIST
Unpack and inspect the package contents. If you nd that any items are missing or damaged, contact me by phone at

STEP 1 - MEASURE AND MARK RAIL LOCATIONS
Decide on the area of wall where you want to install the easel. The area should be at least 72” wide by 84” tall, reasonably
at and free of obstructions like light xtures, switches, etc. First, you will mark where the upper and lower wall rails will
be located vertically.
QUICK OVERVIEW
• Measure and mark where the rails will go on the wall
• Locate the wall studs and mark the rails where they pass over wall studs
• Drill pilot holes through the rails
• Fasten the rails onto the wall with screws
• Attach the canvas holders to the masts
• Hang the masts over the rails
TOOLS REQUIRED
* A stud nder is optional, provided that you are able to determine the stud locations by tapping on the wall.
• Tape Measure • Stud Finder* • 5/32” Drill Bit
• Pencil • Square • Screwdriver or Impact Driver with #2 Square Drive
• Level • Drill • Step Ladder
g 1. Marking the vertical location of the upper wall rail.
• For 7’ ceilings, I recommend the upper rail is 76” up from the oor and the lower rail is 13-⁄”.
• For 8’ ceilings or higher, I recommend the upper rail is 80” up from the oor and the lower rail is 17-⁄”.
Use a tape measure to measure 80” up from the oor and make a pencil mark. This mark indicates where the bottom
edge of the upper wall rail will go. Measure 17-⁄” up from the oor and make a pencil mark. This mark indicates where
the bottom edge of the lower wall rail will go. Of course, you can position the rails higher or lower as desired, so long as
you maintain the correct distance between them.
The distance between the bottom edge of the upper rail and the bottom edge of the lower rail must be 62-⁄”.

Page 4
g 2. Repeat measuring up from the oor to make more marks. Keep your pencil marks light so they
are easy to erase later.
g 3. Because oors can be uneven, it’s important to use a level. Be sure to maintain the correct
distance between the two lines.

Page 5
g 4. The dotted lines represent the 2x4 studs. The marks shown in red indicate the center of each stud.
STEP 2 - FINDING AND MARKING STUD LOCATIONS
Use a stud nder to locate the studs (or tap on the wall and listen for a "solid" sound). Mark the centers of the studs
along the lines you have drawn. Extend the marks down a half inch or so.
STEP 3 - MARKING THE WALL RAILS
The next task is to mark where you want the wall rails positioned horizontally. Hold one of the wall rails up on the wall,
aligning its bottom edge to the upper line. Move the rail left or right until it is positioned as desired and then mark the
location of both ends. For now, this only needs to be done for the upper rail.
g 5. Marking the horizontal location of the upper wall rail.

Page 6
g 6. Transfer the stud locations to the upper wall rail.
While holding the rail in place on the wall, copy the stud locations from the wall into the screw channel.
These marks indicate where you will be drilling holes for the screws.
On a at surface like a oor or table, place the two wall rails side-by-side. Make sure that they are facing the same way,
then align their ends. Using a square, carefully duplicate the marks from the rst rail onto the second rail. The idea is to
have both rails laid out identically.
g 7. Take your time and carefully match the marks onto the other wall rail.
g 8. Drilling the holes.
STEP 4 - DRILLING THE HOLES
Next, you will drill the pilot holes through the wall rails. Use a 5/32” drill bit to make holes at each of the marks you made.
Take care to keep the holes straight and centered within the screw channel. NOTE: Do not attempt to drive screws
through the rail without rst drilling holes.

Page 7
g 9. Align the upper wall rail to the marks and drive the screws in.
STEP 5 - INSTALLING THE UPPER WALL RAIL
Hold the upper wall rail in place on the wall as before, aligning it to the end marks. Use a screwdriver and the supplied 2’’
wood screws to fasten the rail to the wall. Take care to keep the bottom edge of the rail aligned to the horizontal pencil
mark as you continue along, adding each screw.
TIPS: This step is easier to do with two people. It may be easier to start the screws a little ways into the holes before
holding the rail up on the wall to drive them the rest of the way in. The washer head screws that are provided require a
#2 square drive bit. It is important to use the correct bit to avoid damaging the screws.
g 10. Using a mast as a guide to mark the horizontal location of the lower rail.
STEP 6 - INSTALLING THE LOWER WALL RAIL
Before you can install the lower rail, you need to make some marks to know where it goes. An easy way to do this is to
use a mast as a guide...
To do this, hang a mast on the upper wall rail and position it so that its right edge is aligned with the right edge of the
upper rail. Leave the cam lever in the open position (pointing out away from the wall) so that the mast will slide easily.
Use a level to make sure the mast is plumb (straight up and down) then use a pencil to mark the lower right edge. Next,
move the mast all the way over to the left and mark it the same way. When done, take the mast down and set it aside.

Page 8
g 11. Align the lower wall rail to the marks and drive the screws in.
Hold the lower rail in place on the wall with its bottom edge aligned to the lower horizontal line and its ends aligned to
the end marks that you just made. Double check to make sure that the distance between the bottom edge of the upper
rail and the bottom edge of the lower rail is 62-⁄”. As before, fasten the rail to the wall with wood screws.
g 12. Putting the canvas holder assemblies together.
STEP 7 - ATTACHING THE CANVAS HOLDERS
Pass a threaded knob with a washer through the front of a canvas holder. Place the canvas holder on a mast as shown.
Hold one of the clamps on the back of the mast, aligning the holes, then tighten it together. Repeat this step for the other
canvas holder assemblies, with one holder facing up and the other facing down.

Page 9
g 13. Place the mast over the wall rails with the cam levers opened. Close them when the mast is positioned where you want it.
STEP 8 - HANG THE MASTS ON THE WALL RAILS
With the cam levers in the open position, hold a mast up against the wall, a little higher than the rails. Slide the mast
down into place on the rail. Close the cam levers. The upper cam lever points up and the lower cam lever points down.
Repeat for each additional mast.
NOTE: If the rails were installed at the correct heights in relation to one another, the weight of the masts should be
supported by the upper wall rail, while there should be a slight gap where the mast meets the lower wall rail. This is by
design.
DONE!
It’s my hope that your wall easel proves itself to be very useful and an important addition to your studio.
