1. INTRODUCTION
Dear Customer,
Thank you for purchasing your Chainsaw Selion M12. Correctly used and maintained, this tool will give a satisfactory
performance for many years.
Warning
Your device contains numerous recoverable or recyclable materials. Return it to your
dealer or, failing this, to an approved servicing centre to be treated.
Comply with the regulations in force in your country as concerns environmental protection associated with your
activity.
Warning
It is imperative that you read through the ENTIRE user’s manual before using or servicing the
tool. Always comply with the instructions and illustrations in the manual.
All through this user guide you will find advisory notes and information entitled: REMARK, CAUTION / WARNING.
A REMARK provides additional information, clarifies a point or explains a step to be followed in detail.
WARNINGS or CAUTIONS call attention to a procedure which, if not performed or incorrectly performed, could
cause physical damage and/or serious injury.
The warning indicates that damage resulting from failure to comply with the procedures and instructions is not
covered by the warranty and the owner will be liable for any repair costs.
Safety indications are also given on the tool; they remind you of the safety precautions to be taken. Identify and
read these indications before using the tool. Immediately replace any indications that may become partially illegible
or deteriorated.
Refer to Section 2.6, “Safety signage” for the location diagram of the safety stickers affixed to the tool.

2. SAFETY
2.1. INTENDED USAGE
• The Chainsaw Selion M12 is intended for cutting only wood and branches up to a diameter corresponding to the
length of the chainsaw guide bar.
• The Chainsaw Selion M12 must be used at ground level or from a suitable platform that is completely stable
and secure.
• When is use the Chainsaw Selion M12 should be held in both hands, right hand on the trigger handle and left
hand on the top handle.
• The Chainsaw Selion M12 is intended for outdoor use only.
• The Chainsaw Selion M12 is not intended for any other use.
• Mounting of parts on the Chainsaw Selion M12 is authorized only for original or manufacturer-approved spare
parts (chain guides or saw chains for example) as well as for authorized chain guide / saw chain combinations
as indicated in the manual.
• The user is responsible for any accident resulting from improper use or unauthorized modification of the Chainsaw
Selion M12.
2.2. GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS FOR THE TOOL
Warning
Read all the safety measures and all the instructions. Failure to comply with the following
instructions risks causing electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Note
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "power tool" in the safety warnings refers to your battery-powered electric tool (without power cord).
2.2.1. WORK AREA SAFETY
1. Keep the work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
2. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids,
gases or dust. Power tools create sparks, which may ignite the dust or fumes.
3. Keep children and bystanders away while operating the power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose
control.
2.2.2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
1. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs
with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
2. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigera-
tors. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
3. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of
electric shock (with the exception of tools for which the “IP” protection rating is specified).
4. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep
cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled power cords increase the
risk of electric shock.
5. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord
suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

6. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) pro-
tected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
Note
The term “residual current device (RCD)” can be replaced by the term “ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI)”
or “earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB)”.
2.2.3. PERSONAL SAFETY
1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use
a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of
inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
2. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust
mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal
injuries.
3. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power
source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the
switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
4. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached
to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
5. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power
tool in unexpected situations.
6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving
parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
7. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are
connected and properly used. Use of dust collection devices can reduce dust-related hazards.
2.2.4. POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
1. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will
do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
2. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled
with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
3. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the
power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preven-
tive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
4. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power
tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained
users.
5. Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage
of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power
tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
6. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely
to bind and are easier to control.
7. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into
account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different
from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
2.2.5. USE OF BATTERY OPERATED TOOLS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
1. Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of
battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
2. Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may
create a risk of injury and fire.

3. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys,
nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another.
Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
4. Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally
occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the
battery may cause irritation or burns.
2.2.6. MAINTENANCE
1. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This
will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
2.2.7. TOOL’S END OF LIFE MANAGEMENT
1. When the tool reaches the end of its life, PELLENCkeeps the end-of-life sheet of the equipment at
disposal. The end-of-life sheet provides instructions for safely removing components.
2.3. CHAINSAW SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Keep all parts of the body away from the chain when the chainsaw is operating. Before you start the
chainsaw, make sure that the chain is not in contact with anything. A moment of inattention while operating
a chainsaw may cause entanglement of your clothing or a body part with the chain.
2. Always hold the chainsaw with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand on the front handle.
Holding the chainsaw with a reversed hand configuration increases the risk of personal injury and should never
be done.
3. Hold the chainsaw by its insulated gripping surfaces only, because the saw chain may come into con-
tact with hidden wiring or its own power cord. Saw chains contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal
parts of the chainsaw "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
4. Wear eye protection. In addition personal protective equipment for hearing, head, hands, legs and feet
is recommended. Adequate protective equipment will reduce personal injury from flying debris or accidental
contact with the saw chain.
5. Do not operate a chainsaw from an unstable position in a tree, on a ladder, from a rooftop, or any
unstable support. Operation of a chainsaw in this manner could result in serious personal injury.
6. Always keep proper footing and operate the chainsaw only when standing on fixed, secure and level
surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces may cause a loss of balance or control of the chainsaw.
7. When cutting a limb that is under tension be alert for spring back. When the tension in the wood fibre is
released the springing limb may strike the operator and/or throw the chainsaw out of control.
8. Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings. The slender material may catch the saw chain and
be whipped toward you or pull you off balance.
9. Carry the chainsaw by the front handle with the chainsaw switched off and away from your body. When
transporting or storing the chainsaw always fit the chain guide protector cover. Proper handling of the
chainsaw will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the moving chain.
10. Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing the bar and chain. Improperly ten-
sioned or lubricated chain may either break or increase the chance for kickback.
11. Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery causing loss of
control.
12. Cut only wood. Do not use chainsaw for purposes for which it is not intended. For example: do not use
chainsaw for cutting metal, plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials. Use of the chainsaw for operations
other than intended uses could result in a hazardous situation.
13. Do not attempt to fell a tree until you have a clear understanding of all the necessary procedures. Serious
injury could occur to the operator or bystanders from a falling tree.
2.4. CAUSES OF KICKBACK AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the chain guide touches an object, or when the wood closes in and
pinches the saw chain while cutting.

Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the chain guide up and back towards
the operator.
Pinching the saw chain along the top of the chain guide may push the chain guide rapidly back towards the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which could result in serious personal injury. Do
not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into your chainsaw. As a chainsaw user, there are several steps
you should take to prevent your cutting jobs resulting in accident or injury.
Kick-back results from incorrect use of the chainsaw and/or inappropriate procedures or working conditions. It can
be avoided by taking the correct precautions, as indicated below:
1. Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers en-
circling the chainsaw handles, with both hands on
the saw and position your body and arms to allow
you to resist kickback forces. Kickback forces can
be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions
are taken. Do not let go of the chainsaw.
2. Do not overreach and do not cut above shoul-
der height. This helps prevent unintended tip con-
tact and enables better control of the chainsaw in
unexpected situations.
3. Only use replacement chain guides and chains
specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replace-
ment chain guides and chains may cause chain
breakage and/or kickback.
4. Follow the manufacturer's sharpening and main-
tenance instructions for the saw chain. Decreas-
ing the depth gauge height can lead to increased
kickback.

2.7. RESIDUAL RISKS
Even when using the Chainsaw Selion M12 as intended, there is always a degree of unavoidable residual risk. The
following potential risks may apply:
• Risk of cuts due to contact with exposed saw teeth of the Chainsaw Selion M12
• Risk of cuts due to contact with the moving chain
• Risk of cuts due to unexpected and sudden movement of the guide bar
• Risk of cutting or piercing injuries related to the projection of parts of the Chainsaw Selion M12
• Risk of projections of splinters, bark, etc. while sawing
• Risk of allergy related to skin contact with chain oil
• Risk of fire resulting from cutting of certain particularly flammable wood species
• Risk of electrification / electrocution in the event of contact or proximity between the chainsaw and live cables.

4. COMMISSIONING
4.1. ASSEMBLY OF THE CHAIN AND CHAIN GUIDE (1ST USE)
Note
Refer to the numbering of the parts in the illustration Section 3.1, “Description”.
Caution
Before working on the tool, check that
the On / Off switch is in the off position
«0» and disconnect the battery power
lead.
1. Remove the chain protector (5) and remove the
foam plug that blocks the oil outlet before fitting the
bar and chain.
The chain guide and the chain are delivered unassem-
bled. Assemble the chain guide and the chain.
2. Position the chain guide (7) in its place.
3. Push the guide (7) towards the sprocket to engage
the lock.
4. Fit the chain (6) while respecting the cutting direc-
tion.
5. Refit the chain protector (5).
6. Retighten the lock nut (8) using the captive telescop-
ic tightening wrench (11). During this operation, the
automatic chain tensioning mechanism should be
triggered.

4.1.1. CHAIN GUIDE FUNCTIONS
- 4.1.1.1. THE ANTI-KICKBACK CHAIN GUIDE
The anti-kickback chain guide can be used for:
• regular trimming
• restructuring orchards to allow passage between two
rows of trees.
- 4.1.1.2. THE CARVING CHAIN GUIDE
The carving chain guide has a very narrow profile that allows for easier access to difficult areas, while incurring very
little kickback. It is used for more precise cuts such as:
• surgical trimming of the tree or vine (curettage of dis-
eased vines),

• selective trimming in dense vegetation on fruit trees
- 4.1.1.3. PRECISION CHAIN GUIDE
The precision chain guide, like the carving chain guide, has a very narrow profile and has the same advantages.
The reduced thickness of the precision guide ensures a cleaner cut and a reduction in energy consumption.
4.2. AUTOMATIC CHAIN TENSIONING (FIRST USE)
Caution
Before working on the tool, check that
the On / Off switch is in the off position
«0» and disconnect the battery power
lead.
1. Loosen the chain guard (8) lock nut by 3 turns.

2. Tighten the chain guard lock nut (8) correctly using
the telescopic wrench (11), the chain guide (7) then
moves forward and automatically tensions the chain
(6).
3. Re- position the handle of the telescopic wrench (11)
on its holding magnet.
Checking the tension of the chain
Important
Adjust the tension as often as necessary. Tension
is checked by pulling on the chain (6) in the middle
of the chain guide: 1 to 3 drive links should appear.

4.3. CHAIN LUBRICATION (FIRST USE)
4.3.1. FILLING THE CHAIN OIL RESERVOIR
Before the first use, it is essential to fill the chain oil reser-
voir with the specific chain and guide oil (Ref.: 116688)
1. Unscrew the guide and chain oil reservoir cap (9)
2. Carefully pour the guide and chain oil into the reser-
voir.
3. Tighten the chain oil tank cap (9)
Important
Check the oil level every hour and top it up if nec-
essary.
Note
PELLENC recommends using a biodegradable chain oil that complies with the RAL-UZ-48 standard (ref.
116688, otherwise any oil that complies with the RAL-UZ-48 standard)
Consumables sold separately.
Warning
Never use dirty or used oil.
4.3.2. FIRST FORCED LUBRICATION CYCLE
The forced lubrication cycle distributes the oil from the
reservoir to the different components. It is imperative to
carry out this forced lubrication cycle before first use of
the Chainsaw Selion M12.
1. Press and hold the triggers (3) and (2).
2. Set the battery switch to “1”.
3. An automatic cycle starts which sends oil from the
reservoir to the chain guide.
a. short beep every 20 seconds during the cycle.
b. 3 beeps to validate the end of the cycle.
4. Release the triggers when you hear the first beep.

Note: the chain does not rotate during the forced lubrication cycle phase.

Warning
Carry out a forced lubrication cycle at the start of each season in order to check the chain
lubricating function. Carry out forced lubrication whenever necessary.
4.4. RUNNING-IN (BEFORE FIRST USE)
Warning
Before the first use, it is imperative to run-in the chain guide and chain.
To run-in the chain guide and the chain:
1. Run the chainsaw for 1 or 2 minutes without contact
2. After this running-in phase, check the tension of the chain, and tighten it if necessary.
Note
Once all commissioning procedures have been completed, the tool is ready for use
4.5. CHAIN PROTECTION
Put on the chain protector whenever transporting, han-
dling and storing the tool.
Note
Never transport the chainsaw without its protective
cover. The chainsaw must always have its protec-
tive cover on when moved.
The chain protector can be used as a holster that hangs
from the belt.

5. USAGE
5.1. USAGE SITUATION
Do not use the chainsaw to prune trees one-handed when in an unstable work position. It is preferable to use a
hand saw when cutting small diameter wood at the ends of branches.
Tree service chainsaws should only be used one-handed where:
• operators cannot gain a work position enabling two-handed use, and
• they need to support their working position with one hand, and
• the when saw is being used at full stretch, at right angles to and out of line with and away from the operator’s body.
Warning
Never cut with the kickback zone at the tip of the chainsaw guide bar,
Never hold the section being cut.
Never attempt to catch falling sections.
5.2. HOLDING THE TOOL
1. Take the chainsaw by the handles and ensure noth-
ing is touching the chain.
2. Attach the power supply cord to your arm using the
supplied armband.
3. The chainsaw is in its “start-up” position.

Never disconnect the power cord
from the battery without checking that
the On / Off switch is in the off position
