Installingrepeatersrequiresbothhardwareinstallationandsoftwareinstallation.
Increasecoverage
Therepeaterisabuildingblocktobeusedtoextendthecoverageareainasystem.Therepeater
doesnotincreasethenumberoftrafficchannels,howeveritprovidesalargerphysicalspreadingof
thetrafficchannelsandtherebyincreasesthecoverageareaestablishedwiththebasestations.The
repeatersaremainlyusedinareaswithlimitedtraffic.
Repeatersarewirelessanddoesnotneedanyphysicalconnectiontothebasestation,makingitvery
easytoinstall,itonlyneedmainspower.Therepeaterhasanexternalantennaconnectionwhich
allowsapossibilitytogetradiocoverageontheothersideofe.g.metalwall.
Therecanbe4talkchannelsoneachrepeateranditisonlypossibletorepeatthesoundonone
group,althoughitispossibletohaveatalkchannelonanyoftheactivatedgroupsontherepeater.
Whenusingrepeatersitisrecommendedtobeonatalkchannelsinceitwillgivethebetter
performance.

TherepeaterhasoneLEDindicatorthedescribingtherepeateroperations:Whentheindicatorisoff,
therepeaterhasnotbeenpoweredup.WhentheLEDflashes,syncwiththebasehasnotbeen
established,assoonastherepeaterhassyncwiththebase,theLEDisconstantlylit.Foracorrect
functiontherepeatermustbeinsynchronizationwiththebasestationortherepeaterbeforeinthe
system.EachtimeaportablemakesahandovertotherepeatertheLEDwillflashoncetoindicateit
hascompletedahandover.
Repeaterinstallation
‐Radiocoveragedependsonbuildingconstructionmaterials,methodsofconstruction,and
thesurroundingenvironment.Therefore,eachinstallationisuniqueregardingthelocationof
basestations.
‐Avoidplacingbasestationsandrepeatersnearotherelectronicequipment,largemachinery,
metalconstructions,etc.,astherangecanbeseverelyaffected.Basestationandrepeaters
shouldbeplacedbetween6‐12feet/1.8‐3.6metersinheightonawallorupto30feet/10
meterswhensuspendedfromaceiling.Iftheyareplacedanylower,personswalkingaround
couldinterferewiththeradiosignal.Thecoverageareacanbeadverselyaffectedifthebase
stationandtherepeateraremountedimproperly.

‐Forefficienthandoverofconversationsbetweenbasestations,deployrepeaterswith
sufficientoverlapofradiocoverage.Coverageoverlapoccurswhentheradiofieldsofbase
stationandrepeatersoverlapeachother.Basestationandrepeatersmustbeplacedinsuch
awaythattheradiocoveragefromonebasestationtoarepeateroverlapsby30to45
feet/10‐15meters.Overlapsarenecessarytogivethehandsettimetodoahandovertoa
basestationorrepeaterfromwhichitreceivesabettersignalquality.

Coverageoverlap
‐Iftheoverlapareaisnotenough‐lessthan30–45feet/10‐15metersthereisariskofthe
connectionbeingdroppedwhilemovingfromonecoverageareatoanother.However,too
muchoverlapresultsinawastedcoveragearea.
‐Basestationsandrepeatersareomni‐directional,whichmeansthattheRFsignalis
propagatedverticallyandhorizontallyfromthebasestationsandrepeaters.Dependingon
buildingmaterialsthebasestationorrepeatercoverageareawilltypicallyextendtomore
thanonefloorofastructure.
‐Thehandsetwillnotnecessarilyswitchovertothebasestationorrepeaterfromwhichthe
strongestsignalisreceived.Thehandsetwillremainconnectedtoabasestationorrepeater
aslongasthequalityofthereceivedsignalisacceptable.
‐Differentweatherconditionscaninfluenceradiocoverage.Forexample,awetrooforwall
canactasashield.Also,newleavesontreesinthespringmightaffecttheradiocoverageof
basestationsandrepeaters.
‐Iftheconstructionmaterialsofthebuildingcontainmetal,signalreflectionmayoccur.When
signalreflectionsoccur,thesignalmaybeaffectedevenwhenthehandsetisverycloseto
thebasestation.Youshoulddocumenttheseareaswiththehelpofthecustomer.Ifyouare
awareofmetalinthebuildingconstruction,youhavetocarryoutaverythoroughsite
survey.
‐Therepeaterdoesnotaddchannels,itonlyaddsadditionalcoveragearea.

‐ForbestRFcoverage,therepeatermustbemountedverticallyonwall.Theantennasmust
alwaysbeperpendiculartothefloor.
‐CAUTION:Therepeatermustnotbeinstalledatanyangleotherthanvertical.Iftherepeater
isplacedupsidedown(powerinletpointingupwards),thecoverageareaisdecreasedby40
–50%.
Aftercompletingtheinstallationoftherepeaters,recordthelocationofeachrepeater.
Poweringtherepeaters
Insertthecordfromthemainsadaptor(DC2822)intothebottomoftherepeater,seepicturebelow.
Powersupplyfortherepeateris9VDC,300mA.
