How to operate
1. Charging/Battery Life:
The pen has a built-in rechargeable lithium battery. We recommend giving it
a full charge before using it for the first time. It takes about 3 hours for a full
charge.
How to Charge
1). You can charge by plugging it in to your computers USB port
2). You can also plug it directly into a USB wall charger and charge this
way too. Please make sure that the power out-put of the charger is no
more than 1A and 5 volts.
How to tell when its done charging?
The indicator light will show a solid red color while it is charging. When it is
done charging, the light will turn off.
What happens if the battery dies while recording?
The yellow and blue lights flash 5 times and it will automatically save the
current video file and shut down.
2. Switching Between Modes:
The pen has 3 operating modes: photo mode, motion detection mode, and
video recording mode. It can perform other functions within these modes,
see chart below:
Switch Position
Function
①
1. after turning on, take pictures
2. after turning on, connected PC to read the pen
3. television is connected, page up (HDMI)
②
Motion detection video mode

③
1.after turning on, record video
2.after turning on, pc-camera function
3. television is connected, page down (HDMI)
Note: Please make sure that you stop recording video before you switch to
another mode. If you switch modes while it is recording, it might cause the pen
to malfunction. Please wait to switch mode 4-5 seconds after you have
stopped recording in order to give the pen time to save the video file.
3. How to Turn ON/OFF:
ON: To turn on “short press” the power button, the pen will boot up and then
the light will turn a solid yellow color.
OFF:Long press the power button. The current file being recorded will be
saved and the indicator light will turn of.
4. Record Video:
Make sure mode switch in the #3 position. Turn the pen on and the light will
be a solid yellow, at this point the pen is on and ready to record. Short
press/click the power button, the yellow light will flash 3 times to indicate that
recording has started but then it turns off during recording.
Short press the top button to stop recording and the pen will save the current
video (each time you start/stop recording it creates an new video file). After
stopping the video the yellow light will be a solid yellow, this tells you the pen
has stopped recording and is not in standby mode.
Note: Video is recorded in 5 minute increments. This is done to ensure you
don’t lose a large video file and also to make sure the video file size doesn’t
get too large.
Note #2: Because the pen takes 1080P, it needs a higher speed/class of
memory card. We recommend using at least a class 6 speed of memory card.
5. Motion detection:
Make sure mode switch is in #2, turn the pen on and the light will turn a solid

blue color. The pen will automatically start recording when it detects motion.
The blue light will start flashing to indicate that it is recording. If 10 seconds
goes by without any motion, the pen will stop recording and save the file and
go back into standby mode.
Note: If there is constant movement/motion, the pen will record video in 5
minute increments just like the regular video recording mode.
6. Take a Photo:
Make sure the mode switch is in position #1, turn the pen on and the light will
illuminate a solid blue/yellow color while in standby mode. Click the top
button once, to take a photo, the blue light will flash once to indicate that a
photo was taken. After a photo is taken it will enter standby mode again.
7. Connect computer:
When you plug the pen into the computer, it works just like a flash drive.
Here is how it works:
Make sure you are in picture mode, turn the pen on and plug it into the USB
port. After plugging it in, the red light will turn on, wait about 3 seconds for
your computer to recognize the pen. It will mount on your computer just like a
flash drive. From here you can view, transfer, or delete the files.
Note: You can also take the micro SD card out of the pen and put it into a
card reader to view the files.
Note #2:When playing back video on the computer, we recommend
transferring the video files to your computer before playing them back.
Sometimes the video might skip if you try playing back directly from the pen.
8. HDMI output:
Turn the pen on. And plug the HDMI cable (optional accessory) into the top of
the pen ad into your TV. Choose the proper HDMI input on your TV. Play and
pause video using the power button. Switch the shooting mode to move to
next/previous video file.

9. Change Time/Date:
Create a new text document on your computer using Textedit (MAC) or
NotePad (Windows). Enter the time/date into this text document in the
following format “year/month/date/hour/minute/second”:
Example: “2013/10/01/12/00/00”
Once the above text has been entered into the document. Plug the pen into
the computer and wait for it to mount as a drive. Save as the file as an
un-formatted/plain text file named “TIMESET.TXT” in the “root” directory of
the pen.
After the file is saved onto the pen, unplug the pen from the computer. Turn
on the pen on and off (reboot) and the time/date will be applied.
NOTE: When you save in the “root directory” this means you are not saving
the file into any sub folders on the pen.
10. PC—camera:
You can use the pen as a pc/web camera. Make sure the pen in is in video
mode (position 3). Turn the pen on and plug into the computer, open my
computer (windows), click network camera icon.
Note: To use as pc/web camera there is no other software needed. This
should be a feature built into windows. We can’t guarantee the compatibility
of this feature with all pc operating systems.
11.Reset function:
If the pen freezes or malfunctions it might just need to be reset in order to fix
the issue. Find a small object such as a pin or end of a paper clip. Insert into
the reset hole and push down to reset.
NOTE: Resetting the pen is similar to resetting a computer. You won’t lose
any recorded files, it just resets the software in the pen.
