2. Area of Application
Push to Talk (PTT) communication
The RSM-Ex 01 BT (subsequently referred to as the „product“) was developed for PTT
communication. PTT is the designation given to the group call function from the indus-
trial and public safety communication sectors. When using this function, a participant
communicates with his/her work group in the following way:
Pressing and holding the PTT button opens a voice channel within the group.
The person making the call can now speak while holding the button.
The group participants now hear the information that is relayed by the caller.
When the caller has released the PTT button, it is possible for the other participants in
the group to respond to the call by pressing and holding the PTT button until they have
nished speaking. In order to be able to use the PTT function on Android or Windows
devices, you will need a PTT application that provides the PTT service, as well as a
WLAN, 2G or higher quality data connection.
Telephone calls
When used in combination with a WWAN device, it is possible to use the product to
make phone calls.
3. Safety Instructions
Please read through these operating instructions carefully before starting to use the
product! In the event of any doubt (an unclear translation or printing error), please refer
to the English version of the operating instructions. The following safety instructions
contain information and safety regulations that must be observed to ensure safe
operation under the described conditions. Failure to follow these instructions and this
information can have serious consequences or constitute a violation of the applicable
regulations.

3.1 Faults and Damage
•
If there is any reason to suspect that the safety of the product has been impaired, it
must be whitedrawn from use and removed immediately from the Ex-area. We recom-
mend that the product be returned to the manufacturer for inspection. The safety of
the device may be compromised if, for example:
•
there is visible damage to the housing.
•
the product has been subjected to excessive loads.
•
the product has been improperly stored.
•
the product has been damaged in transit.
•
unit markings or inscriptions are illegible.
•
malfunctions occur.
•
permitted limit values have been exceeded.
•
minimum distance of 10 cm between the device and ear!

5. Charging/Battery indicator
Charging the product is only permitted outside hazardous areas while observing the
following ambient temperature range: 0 °C to 45 °C
The product is equipped with an integrated, non-removable battery. The battery instal-
led in the product is not fully charged. We recommend fully charging the battery before
using the product for the rst time. The full capacity of the battery is reached after 3 or
4 complete charge/discharge cycles. The product must be charged at least once every
six months to a battery level of 50 %. If the product has been discharged, it may take
several minutes for the charging function to be displayed.
Insert the USB connector into the power supply unit and plug this into a power socket.
Then connect the charging cable to the product‘s charging port. Please note that the
product is always in a „switched on state“ when charging.

7. Power On/Off
Switching On
Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn on the product.
The „Power On“ function is indicated via an audio prompt.
Please note that the product is always in a „switched on state“ when charging.
Switching Off
Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn off the product.
The „Power Off“ function is indicated via an audio prompt.
Hardware Reset
Press and hold the power button for 12 seconds to reset the product. Once the button is
released, the product restarts.
8. Volume Control
The RSM-Ex 01 BT controls the volume of the connected device. If an HFP and A2DP
connection has been established, the RSM-Ex 01 BT will automatically control the
corresponding volume of the connected device.
To change the volume, press the volume up/down button briey (long press not accepted).
9. Multifunction Button (MFB)
Incoming calls Press the MFB briey (max. 1 second) Accept a call

10. Red Button (optional)*
An emergency call can be initiated via the SOS button.
The product will send „SOS=P“ (SOS button pressed) and „SOS=R“
(SOS button released) when a SPP connection is established.
Note
The SOS function must be integrated in the respective application.

11. Channel Up/Down Button (optional)*
A channel change can be initiated via the channel up/down buttons.
The product will send „CH_UP=P“ (channel up button pressed) and „CH_UP =R“ (chan-
nel up button released) and „CH_DOWN=P“ (channel down button pressed) and „CH_
DOWN =R“ (channel down button released) when a SPP connection is established.
Note
The channel up/down functions must be integrated in the respective application.
12. PTT functions
Start PTT Call*
The product will send by default value „+PTT=P“ (PTT button pressed) when a SPP
connection is established. To initiate a PTT call, press and hold the PTT button.
Note
This function must be supported by the associated application. When this signal is
emitted, the channel is available for making a call.
End PTT Call*
To end a PTT call, release the PTT button. The product will send „+PTT=R“ (PTT button
released) when a SPP connection is established.
Note
This function must be supported by the associated application.
When this signal is emitted, the channel is available for making a call.

13. Bluetooth
Discover Mode
Press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds when the device is switched off. The
„Discovering“ function is indicated via an audio prompt and blue ashing LED.
Automatic Connection by Switching Device On
After turning on the product, the device automatically tries to connect with the last
connected device.

Connection Loss
If a Bluetooth connection loss appears (due to range), the RSM-Ex 01 BT automatically
tries to reconnect with the device. This happens until the devices have been reconnec-
ted or the RSM-Ex 01 BT has been turned off.
BT Name
The BT name of the device is „BT_RSM_PTT_XX:XX“, where the „XX:XX“ stands for
the last to words of the BT-Address.
For example „BT_RSM_PTT_44:55“ (BT-Address: 00:11:22:33:44:55).

14. Accelerometer
The RSM-Ex 01 BT has an accelerometer integrated. To read out the values, a SPP
connection must be established. Preamble, postamble and separator can be adjusted
via the xml-le. See software manual.

15. Mute Function
Activating the mute function:
To activate the mute function, press and hold the volume down button for approx. 4
seconds. After successful activation, „Mute On“ is indicated via an audio prompt and
ashing yellow and green LEDs.
Deactivating the mute function:
To deactivate the mute function, briey press the volume up button.
After successful deactivation, „Mute Off“ is indicated via an audio prompt and the yellow
and green LEDs turn off

16. External Headset
The product features a headset jack for connecting an external 3.5 mm screwed head-
set (some regular 3.5 mm plugs may also t). Allowed headsets for the RSM-Ex 01 BT
series are listed in the safety instructions. The product automatically detects when an
external headset is connected and it disables the loudspeaker and microphone on the
product and activates the headset microphone and speaker.
17. NFC Chip*
The chip is installed at the rear of the product.
The NFC chip can be used for various applications.

18. Cleaning Maintenance and storage
•
Only use a damp cloth when cleaning the product.
•
Do not use any solvent-based cleaners or scouring agents when cleaning.
•
The product must not be stored at temperatures above or below the permissible range
of - 20 °C to +35 °C.
19. Repair
Repairs may only be carried out by ecom instruments GmbH or by service centers aut-
horized by ecom instruments GmbH, as the safety of the product must be checked after
conducting the repair. The repair request form can be downloaded under the Service
section at www.ecom-ex.com

20. Safety Precautions for the Integrated Battery
Damaged devices and chargers should no longer be used and should be sent to ecom
instruments GmbH for inspection. We would like to draw your attention here to the trans-
port regulations for dangerous goods, which every consignor is obligated to comply with
for devices with integrated rechargeable batteries or separate rechargeable batteries.
Note
•
Extreme temperatures can have an adverse effect on charging the battery module.
•
Do not throw the product into a re.
•
Dispose of the product in accordance with local regulations and do not discard it along
with normal household waste.
The product is equipped with a high quality lithium-ion rechargeable battery. These
batteries have numerous advantages in everyday use, such as a low weight and high
capacity in a compact construction. Although the battery cells have virtually no memory
effect, they are still subjected to a natural aging process that has an impact on their
function. Modern batteries have a lifespan of around 500 charge cycles, which, when
used daily, corresponds to a service life of approximately 2 years. The aging process
increases rapidly after this period, which means that the battery cells are deemed tech-
nically defective after 500 charge cycles. Moreover, the battery cells could expand and
cause irreparable damage to your product in a worst case scenario.
Note
The rechargeable battery used in this product poses a re hazard and can cause che-
mical injuries if it is used improperly. Neither the rechargeable battery nor the battery
cells should be opened or disassembled. Please take care to ensure the rechargeable
battery is not burned or exposed to temperatures exceeding 65 °C.
21. Disposal
Old electrical and electronic devices from ecom instruments GmbH are supplied for
disposal at our expense and disposed of free of charge in accordance with European
Directive 2012/19/EU. Please comply with local regulations when disposing of electronic
products. The costs associated with returning devices to ecom instruments GmbH are
to be borne by the sender. In accordance with Article 1, Section 18 and Article 2 of the
Act Revising the Law of Waste-Related Product Responsibility for Batteries and Accu-
mulators dated 25 June 2009, we are obligated to provide the following information.
The device contains lithium batteries.
Depleted batteries should never be disposed of along with normal or household waste.
Old batteries can contain harmful substances that are hazardous to health and dama-

ging to the environment. Please return old devices. Return is free of charge and requi-
red by law. Please only dispose of discharged batteries in the designated containers
and tape the terminals of lithium batteries. Note: The batteries used in this device pose
a re hazard and can cause chemical injuries if used improperly. Neither the battery nor
the battery cells should be opened or disassembled and they should not be burned or
exposed to temperatures exceeding 65 °C.
The disposal regulations specied above are also applicable for old devices. All
batteries and rechargeable batteries can be recycled. Precious raw materials such
as iron, zinc and nickel can therefore be reused. The symbol „Mülltone einfügen“ has
the following meaning: Old electrical and electronic devices should not be disposed of
along with normal or household waste. When sending any batteries, please observe
IATA regulations. This provision must be observed for permanently integrated batteries!
22. Warranty and liability
The warranty for this product follows the General Terms & Conditions of Delivery &
Payment of ecom instruments GmbH, which are available at www.ecom-ex.com or can
be obtained directly from the manufacturer. This warranty may be extended through the
optional Service Level Agreement.

2. Einsatzbereich
Push-to-Talk-Kommunikation (PTT)
Das RSM-Ex 01 BT (im Folgenden als „Produkt“ bezeichnet) wurde für die PTT-Kom-
munikation entwickelt. Als PTT wird im Bereich des Industrie- und Behördenfunks
die Gruppenruffunktion bezeichnet. Die Kommunikation zur Arbeitsgruppe wird dabei
folgendermaßen aufgenommen:
Durch Betätigen der PTT-Taste wird ein Sprachkanal in die Gruppe geöffnet.
Der Rufende kann jetzt sprechen, wobei er die Taste gedrückt halten muss.
Die Gruppenteilnehmer hören nun die vom Rufenden mitgeteilten Informationen.
Lässt der Rufende die PTT-Taste los, können die anderen Gruppenteilnehmer antwor-
ten, indem sie die PTT-Taste drücken und für die Dauer ihrer Antwort gedrückt halten.
Damit die PTT-Funktion auf Android- oder Windows-Geräten verwendet werden kann,
wird eine PTT-Anwendung benötigt, über die der PTT-Service bereitgestellt wird, sowie
WLAN oder eine Datenverbindung (mindestens 2G).
Telefonanrufe
Wird ebenfalls ein WWAN-Gerät verwendet, können mit dem Produkt Telefonanrufe
getätigt werden.
3. Sicherheitsanweisungen
Bitte lesen Sie diese Bedienungsanleitung sorgfältig durch, bevor Sie das Produkt
verwenden! Sollten Zweifel bestehen (unklare Übersetzung oder Druckfehler), ist die
englische Version der Bedienungsanleitung heranzuziehen. Die folgenden Sicherheits-
anweisungen enthalten Informationen und Sicherheitsbestimmungen, deren Beach-
tung Voraussetzung für den sicheren Betrieb des Produkts unter den beschriebenen
Bedingungen ist. Die Nichtbeachtung dieser Informationen und Anweisungen kann
schwerwiegende Folgen haben oder einen Verstoß gegen die geltenden Bestimmungen
darstellen.

3.1 Fehler und Beschädigungen
•
Sollten Gründe vorliegen, die auf eine Beeinträchtigung der Sicherheit des Produkts
hindeuten, darf das Produkt nicht mehr verwendet werden und ist unverzüglich aus
dem Ex-Bereich zu entfernen. Es wird empfohlen, das Produkt zur Überprüfung an
den Hersteller zu senden. Die Sicherheit des Produkts kann beispielsweise unter
folgenden Umständen beeinträchtigt sein:

Das Gehäuse ist sichtbar beschädigt.
•
Das Produkt wurde zu großen Belastungen ausgesetzt.
•
Das Produkt wurde nicht ordnungsgemäß aufbewahrt.
•
Das Produkt wurde beim Transport beschädigt.
•
Die Gerätekennzeichnung oder Beschriftung ist nicht lesbar.
•
Es treten Fehlfunktionen auf.
•
Die zulässigen Grenzwerte wurden überschritten.
•
Mindestabstand zwischen Gerät und Ohr: 10 cm

5. Lade-/Akkuanzeige
Das Laden des Produkts ist nur außerhalb von Gefahrenbereichen und innerhalb des
folgenden Temperaturbereichs zulässig: 0 °C bis 45 °C
Das Produkt ist mit einem integrierten Akku, der nicht entfernt werden kann, ausgestat-
tet. Der im Produkt verbaute Akku ist nicht vollständig geladen. Es wird empfohlen, den
Akku vor der ersten Verwendung des Produkts vollständig zu laden. Die volle Kapazität
des Akkus ist nach drei bis vier vollständigen Lade-/Entladezyklen erreicht. Das Pro-
dukt muss mindestens alle sechs Monate bis zu einem Akkuladestand von 50 Prozent
aufgeladen werden. Wurde das Produkt entladen, kann es mehrere Minuten dauern, bis
die Ladefunktion angezeigt wird.
Schließen Sie den USB-Anschluss an das Netzteil an und das Netzteil an eine Steck-
dose. Schließen Sie dann das Ladekabel an den Ladeanschluss des Produkts an. Bitte
beachten Sie, dass sich das Produkt beim Laden immer im eingeschalteten Zustand
bendet.

7. Einschalten/Ausschalten
Einschalten
Halten Sie die Ein/Aus-Taste 3 Sekunden gedrückt, um das Produkt einzuschalten.
Die Funktion „Einschalten“ wird über ein Tonsignal angesagt.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass sich das Produkt beim Laden immer im eingeschalteten Zu-
stand bendet.
Ausschalten
Halten Sie die Ein/Aus-Taste 3 Sekunden gedrückt, um das Produkt auszuschalten.
Die Funktion „Ausschalten“ wird über ein Tonsignal angesagt.
Zurücksetzen der Hardware
Halten Sie die Ein/Aus-Taste 12 Sekunden gedrückt, um das Produkt zurückzusetzen.
Sobald die Taste losgelassen wird, startet das Produkt neu.
8. Lautstärkeregler
Das RSM-Ex 01 BT regelt die Lautstärke des verbundenen Geräts. Wurde eine HFP-
und A2DP-Verbindung hergestellt, regelt das RSM-Ex 01 BT automatisch die Lautstärke
des verbundenen Geräts.
Drücken Sie eine der Lautstärketasten kurz (langer Tastendruck nicht belegt), um die
Lautstärke zu ändern.
9. Multifunktionstaste (MFT)

10. Red-Taste (optional)*
Über die Red-Taste kann ein Notruf ausgelöst werden.
Das Produkt sendet „SOS=P“ (Red button pressed, Red-Taste gedrückt) und „SOS=R“
(Red button released, RedTaste losgelassen), wenn eine SPP-Verbindung besteht.
Hinweis
Die SOS-Funktion muss in der zugehörigen Anwendung integriert sein.

11. Tasten „Kanal +/-“ (optional)*
Über die Tasten „Kanal +“ und „Kanal -“ kann der Kanal geändert werden.
Das Produkt sendet „CH_UP=P“ (channel up button pressed, Taste „Kanal +“ gedrückt)
und „CH_UP =R“ (channel up button released, Taste „Kanal +“ losgelassen) bzw.
„CH_DOWN=P“ (channel down button pressed, Taste „Kanal -“ gedrückt) und „CH_
DOWN =R“ (channel down button released, Taste „Kanal -“ losgelassen), wenn eine
SPP-Verbindung besteht.
Hinweis
Die Funktion zum Ändern des Kanals muss in der zugehörigen Anwendung integriert
sein.
12. PTT-Funktionen
PTT-Anruf starten*
Das Produkt sendet standardmäßig den Wert „+PTT=P“ (PTT button pressed, PTT-
Taste gedrückt), wenn eine SPP-Verbindung besteht. Um einen PTT-Anruf zu tätigen,
drücken Sie die PTT-Taste und halten Sie sie gedrückt.
Hinweis
Diese Funktion muss von der verknüpften Anwendung unterstützt werden. Wird dieses
Signal ausgegeben, ist der Kanal bereit für Anrufe.
PTT-Anruf beenden*
Lassen Sie die PTT-Taste los, um einen PTT-Anruf zu beenden. Das Produkt sendet
„+PTT=R“ (PTT button released, PTT-Taste losgelassen), wenn eine SPP-Verbindung
besteht.
Hinweis
Diese Funktion muss von der verknüpften Anwendung unterstützt werden.
Wird dieses Signal ausgegeben, ist der Kanal bereit für Anrufe.
* Der gesendete Befehl kann über die XML-Datei angepasst werden.

13. Bluetooth
Suchmodus
Halten Sie die Ein/Aus-Taste 5 Sekunden gedrückt, während das Produkt ausgeschaltet
wird. Die Funktion „Suche“ wird per Tonsignal angesagt und über eine blau blinkende
LED angezeigt.
