1. Scope of Delivery

2. Area of Application
Push to Talk (PTT) communication
The RSM-Ex 01 BT (subsequently referred to as the „product“) was developed for PTT
communication. PTT is the designation given to the group call function from the indus-
trial and public safety communication sectors. When using this function, a participant
communicates with his/her work group in the following way:
Pressing and holding the PTT button opens a voice channel within the group.
The person making the call can now speak while holding the button.
The group participants now hear the information that is relayed by the caller.
When the caller has released the PTT button, it is possible for the other participants in
the group to respond to the call by pressing and holding the PTT button until they have
nished speaking. In order to be able to use the PTT function on Android or Windows
devices, you will need a PTT application that provides the PTT service, as well as a
WLAN, 2G or higher quality data connection.
Telephone calls
When used in combination with a WWAN device, it is possible to use the product to
make phone calls.
3. Safety Instructions
Please read through these operating instructions carefully before starting to use the
product! In the event of any doubt (an unclear translation or printing error), please refer
to the English version of the operating instructions. The following safety instructions
contain information and safety regulations that must be observed to ensure safe
operation under the described conditions. Failure to follow these instructions and this
information can have serious consequences or constitute a violation of the applicable
regulations.

3.1 Faults and Damage
• If there is any reason to suspect that the safety of the product has been impaired, it
must be whitedrawn from use and removed immediately from the Ex-area. We recom-
mend that the product be returned to the manufacturer for inspection. The safety of
the device may be compromised if, for example:
• there is visible damage to the housing.
• the product has been subjected to excessive loads.
• the product has been improperly stored.
• the product has been damaged in transit.
• unit markings or inscriptions are illegible.
• malfunctions occur.
• permitted limit values have been exceeded.
• minimum distance of 10 cm between the device and ear!

5. Charging/Battery indicator
Charging the product is only permitted outside hazardous areas while observing the
following ambient temperature range: 0 °C to 45 °C
The product is equipped with an integrated, non-removable battery. The battery instal-
led in the product is not fully charged. We recommend fully charging the battery before
using the product for the rst time. The full capacity of the battery is reached after 3 or
4 complete charge/discharge cycles. The product must be charged at least once every
six months to a battery level of 50 %. If the product has been discharged, it may take
several minutes for the charging function to be displayed.
Insert the USB connector into the power supply unit and plug this into a power socket.
Then connect the charging cable to the product‘s charging port. Please note that the
product is always in a „switched on state“ when charging.

7. Power On/Off
Switching On
Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn on the product.
The „Power On“ function is indicated via an audio prompt.
Please note that the product is always in a „switched on state“ when charging.
Switching Off
Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn off the product.
The „Power Off“ function is indicated via an audio prompt.
Hardware Reset
Press and hold the power button for 12 seconds to reset the product. Once the button is
released, the product restarts.
8. Volume Control
The RSM-Ex 01 BT controls the volume of the connected device. If an HFP and A2DP
connection has been established, the RSM-Ex 01 BT will automatically control the
corresponding volume of the connected device.
To change the volume, press the volume up/down button briey (long press not accepted).
9. Multifunction Button (MFB)
Incoming calls Press the MFB briey (max. 1 second) Accept a call
Press the MFB long (min. 2 seconds) Reject a call
Active calls Press the MFB briey (max. 1 second) End a call
Idle Press the MFB long (min. 2 seconds) Redial a call
10. Red Button (optional)*
An emergency call can be initiated via the SOS button.
The product will send „SOS=P“ (SOS button pressed) and „SOS=R“
(SOS button released) when a SPP connection is established.
Note
The SOS function must be integrated in the respective application.

11. Channel Up/Down Button (optional)*
A channel change can be initiated via the channel up/down buttons.
The product will send „CH_UP=P“ (channel up button pressed) and „CH_UP =R“ (chan-
nel up button released) and „CH_DOWN=P“ (channel down button pressed) and „CH_
DOWN =R“ (channel down button released) when a SPP connection is established.
Note
The channel up/down functions must be integrated in the respective application.
12. PTT functions
Start PTT Call*
The product will send by default value „+PTT=P“ (PTT button pressed) when a SPP
connection is established. To initiate a PTT call, press and hold the PTT button.
Note
This function must be supported by the associated application. When this signal is
emitted, the channel is available for making a call.
End PTT Call*
To end a PTT call, release the PTT button. The product will send „+PTT=R“ (PTT button
released) when a SPP connection is established.
Note
This function must be supported by the associated application.
When this signal is emitted, the channel is available for making a call.
*The command that is sent can be customized via the xml-le. See software manual.
13. Bluetooth
Discover Mode
Press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds when the device is switched off. The
„Discovering“ function is indicated via an audio prompt and blue ashing LED.
Automatic Connection by Switching Device On
After turning on the product, the device automatically tries to connect with the last
connected device.

Connection Loss
If a Bluetooth connection loss appears (due to range), the RSM-Ex 01 BT automatically
tries to reconnect with the device. This happens until the devices have been reconnec-
ted or the RSM-Ex 01 BT has been turned off.
BT Name
The BT name of the device is „BT_RSM_PTT_XX:XX“, where the „XX:XX“ stands for
the last to words of the BT-Address.
For example „BT_RSM_PTT_44:55“ (BT-Address: 00:11:22:33:44:55).

14. Accelerometer
The RSM-Ex 01 BT has an accelerometer integrated. To read out the values, a SPP
connection must be established. Preamble, postamble and separator can be adjusted
via the xml-le. See software manual.

15. Mute Function
Activating the mute function:
To activate the mute function, press and hold the volume down button for approx. 4
seconds. After successful activation, „Mute On“ is indicated via an audio prompt and
ashing yellow and green LEDs.
Deactivating the mute function:
To deactivate the mute function, briey press the volume up button.
After successful deactivation, „Mute Off“ is indicated via an audio prompt and the yellow
and green LEDs turn off
