GEBRAUCHSANWEISUNG
FÜR DEN PETROMAX ATAGO
Vielen Dank, dass Sie sich für den Petromax
Atago entschieden haben. Wir sind überzeugt,
dass Sie viel Freude an Ihrem Petromax Atago
haben werden und hoffen, dass Sie ihn in
seiner ganzen Vielfalt erfahren und anwenden
werden.
WICHTIGE HINWEISE
Lesen Sie diese Bedienungsanleitung vor dem
Gebrauch des Gerätes gründlich durch. Beach-
ten Sie insbesondere die Sicherheitshinweise.
Diese Bedienungsanleitung ist vom Besitzer
aufzubewahren und muss jederzeit griffbereit
sein.
VERWENDETE BEGRIFFE UND SYMBOLE
Die Begriffe Brikett und Holzkohlebrikett in
dieser Bedienungsanleitung beschreiben qua-
dratisch geformte Holzkohle mit den Maßen 6
x 6 x 3 cm.

PRODUKTBESCHREIBUNG
Der Petromax Atago ist ein multifunktio-
nales Outdoor-Gerät, mit welchem Sie grillen,
backen, kochen und vieles mehr tun können. Er
darf ausschließlich im Außenbereich verwendet
werden. Der Petromax Atago basiert auf dem
sog. Kaminprinzip und benötigt daher nur sehr
wenige Briketts. Zudem können die Briketts
durch den Kamineffekt sehr einfach durchge-
glüht werden.
SICHERHEITSHINWEISE
• Verwenden Sie den Petromax Atago nur im
Freien. Er darf keinesfalls in geschlossenen
Räumen verwendet werden, da Brandgefahr
und Erstickungsgefahr besteht.
• Verwenden Sie keinesfalls mehr als 30 Bri-
ketts im Petromax Atago gleichzeitig.
• Platzieren Sie den Petromax Atago vor der
Inbetriebnahme möglichst windgeschützt
und auf einem ebenen und stabilen Unter-
grund.
• Verwenden Sie Petromax Zunder oder aus-
schließlich handelsübliche Grillanzünder
und beachten Sie die Hinweise auf der Ver-
packung.
• Verwenden Sie keinesfalls Flüssigkeiten wie
z. B. Benzin oder Spiritus zum Anzünden
oder Wiederanzünden.
• Geben Sie niemals Zündflüssigkeit oder mit
Zündflüssigkeit getränkte Kohle auf heiße
oder warme Kohle nach.
• Der Petromax Atago muss bei Gebrauch
einen Sicherheitsabstand von 1,5 m zu
brennbaren Materialien aufweisen.
• Lassen Sie den Petromax Atago bei Gebrauch
niemals unbeaufsichtigt.
• Kinder und Tiere dürfen sich nicht unbeauf-
sichtigt in der Nähe aufhalten.
• Bewegen Sie den Petromax Atago nicht,
während dieser in Gebrauch oder heiß ist.
• Entfernen Sie die Asche erst, wenn diese
komplett erkaltet ist und verwenden Sie kei-
nesfalls Wasser, um die glühenden Kohlen zu
löschen.
• Tragen Sie bei Gebrauch des Petromax Atago
und beim Einstellen der Lüftungsöffnungen
(bzw. Temperatur) stets Grillhandschuhe und
verwenden Sie eine Grillzange.
• Tragen Sie entsprechende Kleidung. Lange
lose Ärmel fangen schnell Feuer.

AUFBAU UND MONTAGE
Bei der ersten Verwendung des
Petromax Atago kann das Aus- und
Einfahren der Zylinder schwergängig

sein. Wenden Sie keinesfalls Gewalt an, um die
Zylinder aus- oder einfahren zu lassen.
Der Petromax Atago verfügt über ein ausge-
klügeltes System, durch welches dieser binnen
weniger Sekunden einsatzbereit ist. Befolgen
Sie die folgenden Schritte, um den Petromax
Atago betriebsbereit zu machen.
1. Greifen Sie den Henkel mittig.
2. Ziehen Sie den Henkel vorsichtig und mit
leichtem Zug nach oben (siehe Abbildung
2), so dass der innere Zylinder und die drei
Beine ausfahren.
3. Stellen Sie den betriebsbereiten Petromax
Atago langsam auf einen stabilen, hitzebe-
ständigen und ebenen Boden ab.
VORBEREITUNG UND
INBETRIEBNAHME
Verwenden Sie keinesfalls mehr als
30 Briketts gleichzeitig und verwen-
den Sie keine Flüssiggrillanzünder.
Der Petromax Atago kann binnen kürzester
Zeit für Grill- und Kochaktivitäten vorbereitet
werden. Hierbei sollten stets Festgrillanzün-
der verwendet werden. Flüssiggrillanzünder
sind nicht nötig und kontraproduktiv, da der
Petromax Atago über den sog. Kamineffekt
verfügt, der Feststoffgrillanzünder optimal
nutzt. Befolgen Sie die folgenden Schritte, um
den Petromax Atago vorzubereiten und die
Holzkohlebriketts optimal durchzuglühen.
1. Geben Sie je nach Bedarf Petromax Zunder
(oder einen Feststoff-Grillanzünder) auf
den Boden des Petromax Atago und ver-
teilen Sie diesen entsprechend über die
gesamte Fläche. Für das Vorbereiten von
25 Briketts benötigen Sie ca. eine Tüte
Petromax Zunder.
2. Stellen Sie mit dem Luftzufuhrhebel sicher,
dass die max. Luftzufuhr gewährleistet ist.
3. Setzen Sie den Kohlerost auf die dafür vor-
gesehenen Einsätze.
4. Geben Sie anschließend die gewünschte
Anzahl an Briketts (max. 30 Briketts) mit
einer Kohlezange auf den Kohlerost. Um

die Briketts gleichmäßig durchglühen zu
lassen, sollten Sie diese gleichmäßig über
dem Zunder verteilen.
5. Zünden Sie den Petromax Zunder (oder
einen Feststoff-Grillanzünder) vorsichtig
an.
6. Warten Sie, bis die Briketts vollständig
durchgeglüht sind und eine weiße Farbe
aufweisen. Dies kann je nach Brikettanzahl
und Brikettgüte bis zu 30 Minuten betra-
gen.
DER PETROMAX ATAGO ALS GRILL
Im Lieferumfang des Petromax Atago ist ein
rostfreier Grillrost enthalten, der für das Zube-
reiten von schmackhaften Steaks, saftigem
Fisch und süßen Desserts verwendet werden
kann. Befolgen Sie die folgenden Schritte, um
mit dem Petromax Atago zu grillen.
1. Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Briketts vollstän-
dig durchgeglüht sind.
2. Bepinseln Sie den kalten Grillrost wenn
gewünscht leicht mit Öl. Setzen Sie anschlie-
ßend den kalten Grillrost auf den Petromax
Atago und lassen Sie ihn ca. 3-5 Minuten
ruhen.
3. Legen Sie das gewünschte Grillgut mit einer
Grillzange auf den Grillrost.
4. Stellen Sie die gewünschte Temperatur
mittels des Luftzufuhrhebels ein.
Fertiges Grillgut können Sie unter
den Petromax Atago schieben. Die
Hitze reicht aus, um das Grillgut für
längere Zeit warm zu halten.
DER PETROMAX ATAGO MIT
FEUERTOPF
Der Petromax Atago kann in Verbindung mit
einem Petromax Feuertopf, einem Dutch Oven
ähnlicher Güte oder einem handelsüblichen
Wok aus Gusseisen dazu verwendet werden,
schmackhafte Fleischgerichte, Eintöpfe und
Aufläufe zu kochen. Für die meisten Gerichte
benötigen Sie nicht mehr als 15 Briketts.
DER PETROMAX ATAGO MIT
PERKOLATOR
Nach dem einzigartigen Grill- oder Kochver-
gnügen kann später auch mit einem handelsüb-
lichen Perkolator (z.B. dem Petromax Perkolator
„Perkomax“) schmackhafter Kaffee zubereitet
werden. Dazu kann entweder der Perkolator
einzeln in den Petromax Atago gestellt werden
oder zusammen mit einem dafür vorgesehen
Dutch Oven (z.B. dem Petromax ft3).

FEUERSCHALE
Sowohl im eingeklappten als auch im ausge-
klappten Zustand kann der Petromax Atago
als Feuerschale genutzt werden. So können Sie
sehr einfach und sicher im Freien ein offenes
Lagerfeuer mit handelsüblichem Feuerholz
machen.
DEMONTAGE UND LAGERUNG
Nachdem Sie den Petromax Atago verwendet
haben, können Sie diesen mit einem Hand-
griff zusammenfahren lassen. Befolgen Sie die
folgenden Schritte, um den Petromax Atago
außer Betrieb zu setzen.
1. Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Kohlen vollstän-
dig abgekühlt sind, sich keine hitzige Glut
mehr im Petromax Atago befindet und der
Atago vollständig erkaltet ist.
2. Umfassen Sie mit beiden Händen die
gegenüberliegenden Bereiche des äußeren
Zylinders. Ziehen Sie den äußeren Zylinder
anschließend langsam nach oben, um den
inneren Zylinder und die Beine einfahren zu
lassen (siehe Abbildung 3).
3. Drehen Sie den Petromax Atago um 180°
und schütten Sie die erkaltete Asche an
einen dafür vorgesehenen Ort.
4. Reinigen Sie den Petromax Atago anschlie-
ßend mit einem feuchten oder trocknen
Tuch. Verwenden Sie dabei keine scharfen
Gegenstände und keinesfalls aggressive
Reinigungsmittel.
5. Reinigen Sie die Roste mit einer handels-
üblichen Grillbürste aus Messingborsten.
Utensilien mit Stahlborsten sollten vermie-
den werden.
6. Verstauen Sie den Petromax Atago an
einem sicheren, trocknen, für Kinder unzu-
gänglichen Ort.
Wir empfehlen, den Petromax
Atago in der zugehörigen Petromax
Tasche zu verstauen, um diesen vor

äußeren Einflüssen effektiv zu schützen. Mit
der Petromax Tasche können Sie den Petromax
Atago auch optimal transportieren.
GEWÄHRLEISTUNG
Bei normalem Gebrauch erhalten Sie auf Ihren
Petromax Atago eine Gewährleistung von zwei
Jahren ab Kaufdatum. Dies betrifft nicht Ver-
schleißteile. Funktioniert Ihr Produkt nicht
zufriedenstellend aufgrund von Schäden am
Material oder Herstellungsmängeln, haben Sie
Anspruch auf Nachbesserung. Setzen Sie sich
dazu mit Ihrem Händler in Verbindung.

to offer. If you have any questions or queries,

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Please read and follow this user manual care-
fully before using your new Petromax Atago for
the first time and store it in a secure place.
If the Petromax Atago is given to another
person, this user manual must also be given to
that person.
TERMINOLOGY AND SYMBOLS
The word charcoal briquette or briquette in this
manual refers to a square-shaped piece of char-
coal with a size of 6 x 6 x 3 cm.
This symbol alerts you that important
information concerning the operation
and maintenance of the appliance has
been provided. READ AND FOLLOW

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Petromax Atago is a great all-in-one (e.g.
cooking, baking and grilling) appliance for
outdoor, camping and family activities. This
appliance is for outdoor use only and must not
be used for indoor cooking or heating. Thanks
to its chimney effect, the Petromax Atago can
be utilized with very few charcoal briquettes to
prepare your meals. Furthermore, it allows you
to efficiently burn charcoal briquettes.
SAFETY NOTES
• Only use the Petromax Atago outdoors. Do
not use indoors. Fire hazard! Danger of suf-
focation!
• Do not use more than 30 charcoal briquettes
at once.
• Use the Petromax Atago on a level and solid
surface in a sheltered place.
• Use Petromax Zunder or a commercially
available charcoal solid fuel. Follow the
instructions on the packaging of the product
you have purchased.
• Do not use fluids (e.g. charcoal lighter fluid,
petrol, methylated spirit) to start or restart
the Petromax Atago.
• Do not pour charcoal lighter fluid on charcoal
briquettes while the charcoal briquettes are
burning or are being hot.
• Keep a minimum distance of 1.5m to inflam-
mable objects and objects sensitive to heat
when you use the appliance.
• Never leave the Petromax Atago unattended
while it is in use.
• This appliance is not a toy and it must not be
used by children. Keep out of reach of child-
ren and animals.
• Do not move or transport the appliance when
it is in use or hot.
• Do not remove hot ashes from the Petromax
Atago and do not throw water on hot ashes.
Wait until the ashes are cold and completely
extinguished.
• Always wear barbecue gloves when you use
the Petromax Atago and when you want to
regulate the air flow via the air regulation
lever. Always use barbecue tongs.
• Wear appropriate clothes. Avoid wearing
long, loose sleeves.

SET UP & CONFIGURATION
If you use the Petromax Atago for the
first time, the extension-retraction
mechanism may be stiff. The mecha-
nism becomes smoother. Do not use
excessive force to extend or retract
the inner cylinder and the legs.
The Petromax Atago comes with a unique
extension-retraction mechanism that will allow
you to use the Petromax Atago instantly. Follow

these steps to put the Petromax Atago into
service.
1. Use your fingers to grasp the handle in the
centre.
2. Pull the handle upwards to extend the inner
cylinder and the legs (see figure 2). Do not
use excessive force.
3. Carefully place the Petromax Atago on an
even, flat, solid and heat resistant surface.
PREPARATION & USING THE
PETROMAX ATAGO
Do not use more than 30 charcoal
briquettes. Do not use charcoal
lighter fluid.
In no time, the Petromax Atago is ready for
cooking and barbecue purposes. Do not use
charcoal lighter fluid or another fluid for that
purpose. Only use solid fuel. Solid fuels (and
Petromax Zunder) are an excellent choice for
burning charcoal briquettes as the Petromax
Atago’s high performance is caused by the
chimney effect. Read and follow these instruc-
tions to start the Atago and burn the charcoal
briquettes in the most efficient way.
1. Place the necessary amount of Petromax
Zunder (or another solid fuel) on the bottom
of the Petromax Atago. Spread it out evenly
on the bottom. You will need approximately
1 package of Petromax Zunder for 25 char-
coal briquettes.
2. Use the air regulation lever to allow
maximum air flow.
3. Place the charcoal grate in the Petromax
Atago.
4. Use charcoal tongs to place and position the
charcoal briquettes (use not more than 30
briquettes at once) on the charcoal grate.
Spread out the charcoal briquettes evenly to
allow a clean and consistent burn of char-
coal briquettes.
5. Light the Petromax Zunder (or any other
commercially available solid fuel for that
purpose).
6. Wait until the charcoal briquettes have a
red centre and are covered with grey ash.

This procedure may take up to 30 minutes
depending on the amount and quality of
the charcoal briquettes.
PETROMAX ATAGO AS A BARBECUE
The Petromax Atago comes with a stainless
steel grilling grate. This allows you to use the
Petromax Atago as an efficient barbecue for
all kinds of food (e.g. fish, steaks, desserts).
Read and follow these instructions to use the
Petromax Atago as a barbecue.
1. Make sure that the charcoal briquettes are
ready for use. They must have a red centre
and be covered with grey ash.
2. If required, apply a thin layer of oil to the
surface of the grilling grate. Place the gril-
ling grate on the Petromax Atago and wait
for 3-5 minutes.
3. Use barbecue tongs to place food on the
grilling grate.
4. Adjust the temperature by moving the air
regulation lever.
Grilled food can be placed under the
Petromax Atago to keep it warm and
ready to serve.
PETROMAX ATAGO AND
DUTCH OVEN
You can use the Petromax Atago in combination
with a Petromax Dutch Oven or with another
standard Dutch oven or wok made of cast iron
to prepare a delicious soup or stew. You will
need not more than 15 charcoal briquettes for
most meals.
PETROMAX ATAGO AND PERCOLATOR
The desire for a decent cup of coffee comes
easy after a delicious meal. The remaining heat
can be used in combination with the Petromax
Percolator “Perkomax” (or another percolator)
to make several cups of coffee. You may also
use the percolator and the Petromax Atago in
combination with a small Petromax Dutch Oven
(e.g. ft3) to prepare a snack or dessert while
making coffee.
PETROMAX ATAGO AS A FIRE PIT
You can use the Petromax Atago as a fire pit to
make a safe campfire. This can be done with the
inner cylinder extended or retracted. A stan-
dard campfire can be made with commercially
available firewood.
RECTRACTING & STORING THE
PETROMAX ATAGO
After your cooking adventure, you can easily
retract the inner cylinder of the Petromax
Atago. Read and follow these instructions to
put the Petromax Atago out of service.
1. Make sure that the combustion has ceased
and that the ashes and the Petromax Atago
are cold.
2. Grab with both hands the outer cylinder at
opposite sides. Slowly pull the outer cylin-
der upwards to retract the inner cylinder
and the legs (see Figure 3).
3. Turn the Petromax Atago upside down.
Gently shake it to remove cold ashes.
4. Clean the Petromax Atago with a wet or dry
cloth. Do not use sharp objects or aggres-
sive cleaning agents when cleaning the
appliance.
5. Clean the grilling grate with a commer-
cially available barbecue brush with brass
bristles. Do not use a tool with steel bristles.
6. Store the Petromax Atago in a secure and
dry place. The appliance should be kept out
of reach of children.
We recommend using the Petromax
Bag for safely and securely storing
the Petromax Atago. That way, you
also have a great tool to transport
your Petromax Atago.
WARRANTY
In the case of normal use, a warranty period
of two years will apply to your Petromax Atago
from the date of purchase. This does not apply
to wearing parts. If your product does not func-
tion properly due to damages with the material

or manufacturing defects, you are entitled to
a warranty repair. Contact your dealer for that
purpose.

Petromax hf1 Mini-Gasbrenner
Der Petromax Mini-Gasbrenner
hf1 ist ein sehr handliches Utensil
zum unkomplizierten Starten aller
Petromax Leuchten, zum Anzünden
des Petromax Zunders oder auch
Ihres Grillanzünders. Zum opti-
mierten Einsatz kann die Flamme
des hf1 stufenlos reguliert werden.
Das Gerät ist in vollem Umfang TÜV
und GS geprüft.

The Petromax Mini Torch hf1 is a
handy tool when it comes to star-
ting the Petromax Atago through
Petromax Zunder or another solid
fuel. It is also useful when you want
to light a Petromax lamp with its
integrated preheat cup because the
flame can be smoothly adjusted.
The appliance is TÜV certified and
has passed GS approval.

Petromax hf2 Profi-Gasbrenner
Der hf2 Profi-Gasbrenner eignet
sich hervorragend zum Starten
des Petromax Atago sowie von
Petromax Lampen. Die Flamme
kann auf zwei Arten stufenlos ver-
ändert werden, wodurch dieser
Gasbrenner auch für viele andere
Arbeiten (z. B. Lötarbeiten) effek-
tiv verwendet werden kann. Seine
Leistung beträgt ca. 1300°C bei
einer Brenndauer von ca. 1 Stunde.
Das Gerät ist in vollem Umfang TÜV
und GS geprüft.

Petromax hf2 Professional Torch
The hf2 Professional Torch is a great
tool for easily starting a Petromax
Atago and Petromax lamps. The
flame size can be adjusted conti-
nuously. Thus, the hf2 Professional
Torch can be used efficiently for va-
rious tasks (e.g. lead, gold or silver
melting and welding). It comes with
a power output of 1300°C/2370°F
with a running time of ca. 1 hour.
The appliance is TÜV certified and
has passed GS approval.
