1 Important
Safety

Hearing safety
Listen at a moderate volume.
• Using headphones at a high volume can impair your hearing.This product can
produce sounds in decibel ranges that may cause hearing loss for a normal
person, even for exposure less than a minute.The higher decibel ranges are
offered for those that may have already experienced some hearing loss.
• Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing ‘comfort level’ adapts to
higher volumes of sound. So after prolonged listening, what sounds ‘normal’
can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing.To guard against this, set
your volume to a safe level before your hearing adapts and leave it there.
To establish a safe volume level:
• Set your volume control at a low setting.
• Slowly increase the sound until you can hear it comfortably and clearly,
without distortion.

Introduction
With this unit, you can enjoy both FM radio and Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB)
radio.
Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), is a way of broadcasting radio digitally through
a network of transmitters. It provides you with more choice, better sound quality
and more information.

Caution

Always follow the instructions in this chapter in sequence.

apparatus.The model number and serial number are on the back of the apparatus.

Prepare FM/DAB antenna
For optimal reception, fully extend and adjust the position of the FM/DAB antenna.
Tip
•Position the antenna as far away as possible from your TV,VCR or other radiation source to prevent
interference.

Caution

on the back or the underside of the product.
•Risk of electric shock! When you unplug the AC adaptor, always pull the plug from the socket.
Never pull the cord.
•UseonlytheACadaptorspeciedbythemanufacturerorsoldwiththisunit.
Note
•The type plate is on the back of the apparatus.
1Connect one end of the AC adaptor to the DC socket on the main unit.
2Connect the other end of the AC adaptor to the wall outlet.
Option 2: Battery power
Caution
•Riskofexplosion!Keepbatteriesawayfromheat,sunshineorre.Neverdiscardbatteriesinre.
•Do not mix batteries (old and new or carbon and alkaline, etc.).
•Remove batteries if they are exhausted or if the unit is not to be used for a long time.

2Insert 4 AA size batteries (not supplied) with correct polarity (+/-) as
indicated, then close the battery compartment.

Store FM stations manually
You can program a maximum of 10 preset FM radio stations.
1Tune to your desired FM station.
2Press and hold PRESET for two second,

3Press / to select the desired preset number.

»The stored radio frequency and number are displayed.

•To overwrite a preset station, store another station in its place.

Select a preset FM radio station
1Press DAB/FM repeatedly to select FM radio.
2Press PRESET to enter the preset channel list.
3Press / tondyourdesiredstation.
4Press ENTERtoconrmtheselection.

•When you go through the preset station list, if no button is pressed within three seconds, the radio
tunes to the showed preset station.
Use FM menu
1In FM mode, press and hold INFO to enter the FM menu.
2Press / to scroll the menu options:
• [Audio setting]
• [System]
3To select an option, press ENTER.
4Repeat step 2-3 if sub-option is available under one option.
[Audio setting]
This function enables you to select mono or stereo
• [Forced mono] Select mono broadcast.
• [Stereo allowed] Select stereo broadcast.
[System]
• [Factory reset] Resets all the settings of this radio player to factory
default.
• [SW version] Software version of the radio player is shown.
Note
•If no button is pressed within 10 seconds, the menu exits.

Tune to DAB radio
WhenyouentertheDABmodeforthersttime,theradioplayershows[DAB
mode] for two seconds and enters the DAB menu. Press ENTER to start the
scanning.Then station list is retained in memory so the next time the radio player
is switched on, the station scan does not take place.
1Press DAB/FM repeatedly to select DAB radio.
»A bar graph indicates the progress of the search and the number of
stations found increase as the scan progresses.
AWhen the scan is completed, the stations are listed in numerical then
alphabetic order.
»First available station is played.
BIf there is no DAB coverage currently available
»[No DAB Station] is displayed.
aChange the location or adjust antenna.
bPress SCAN to search again.
Change DAB station
1Tune to a DAB station.
2Use / to navigate through available stations.

Scan DAB radio stations
1When playing a DAB station, or the current station is not available, press
SCAN for more than two seconds.
»The radio player scans all available DAB radio stations and broadcasts
the current station.
Tip
•New stations and services will be added in the DAB broadcast.To make new DAB stations and
services available on your radio player, do the scan on a regular base.
Display station information
1Tune to a DAB radio station.
2Press INFO repeatedly to scroll through the following information (if
available):
»Dynamic label segment (DLS)
»Strength
»Program type (PTY)
»Ensemble Name
»Channel and frequency
»Signal error rate

Store DAB stations manually

Use DAB menu
1In DAB mode, press and hold INFO for two seconds to enter the DAB
menu.
2Press / to scroll the menu options:
• [Station list]
• [System]
• [DRC] (dynamic range control)
• [Manual tune]
• [Full scan]
3To select an option, press ENTER.
4Repeat step 2-3 if sub-option is available under one option.
[System]
• [Info] (Software version of the radio player is shown.)
• [Factory reset] (Resets all the settings of this radio player to factory
default.)
• Press’ENTERtoconrmreset.
[DRC]
Dynamic range control (DRC) adds or removes a degree of compensation for the
differences in the dynamic range between radio stations.
• [DRC high] (DRC is switched on; the default setting recommended for
noisy environment.)
• [DRC low] (DRC is set to half normal level.)
• [DRC off] (DRC is switched off.)
[Manual tune]
Itispossibletomanuallytunetoaspecicchannel/frequencyandaddthistothe
station list.
Thisfunctioncanbeusedtoobtaintheoptimumreceptionforaspecicchannel/
frequency, taking into account the position of the aerial.
»Therstlineofthedisplayshowstheselectedchannelanditsfrequency.
Therstlineofthedisplayshowsarectangle.
»A rectangle will be displayed on the second line of the display.The
position of this rectangle indicates the signal strength (the further
towards the right, the greater the signal strength).

Full scan is used to perform a wide range of DAB radio search (outside UK).
