Safety
Anyone who connects additional equipment to the signal input port or signal output port configures a medical system
and is therefore responsible to ensure compliance with the system requirements of NBR IEC 60601-1. If in doubt,
contact the Philips Customer Care Solutions Center or your local Philips representative.
Warning
If multiple instruments are interconnected or if multiple instruments are connected to a patient, the sum of the
leakage currents may exceed the limits given in ABNT NBR IEC 60601-1 system requirements.
Electromagnetic interference may cause disruption of performance. Protect the monitor and the rack from
sources of intense electromagnetic radiation. This device is designed to provide resistance to electromagnetic
interference; however, because of the proliferation of radio-frequency transmitting equipment and other
sources of electrical noise (such as cellular phones, mobile two-way radios, and electrical appliances) in the
health care environment, it is possible that high levels of such interference due to close proximity or strength of
a source, may result in disruption of performance of this device. Disruption may be evidenced by erratic
readings, cessation of operation or other incorrect functioning. If this occurs, the site of use should be surveyed
to determine the source of this disruption, and actions taken to eliminate the source. If you need assistance,
contact the Philips Customer Care Solutions Center or your local Philips representative.

1 Introduction
Overview
This guide describes how to install and configure an Efficia Rack. This rack shall be referred to as the “Efficia rack”
throughout this guide.
The Efficia rack expands the capabilities of physiological parameters measurement of the Efficia CM120 and CM150
patient monitors (with software version B.XX or newer).

Intended Audience
This guide is for biomedical engineers or technicians responsible for installing and configuring Philips patient
monitoring systems.
For detailed information about the installation of the Efficia CM Series patient monitors, see the Efficia CM Series
Patient Monitors Installation and Configuration Guide.
Navigation Controls
You can access the functionalities of the Efficia rack through the Efficia CM Series monitors.
For detailed information on the navigation controls of the monitor, see the Efficia CM Series documentation.

Efficia Rack Documentation
Efficia rack documentation includes:
• Manual de Operação do Rack Efficia: Provides information for day to day operation of the Efficia rack.
Also includes safety information, rack specifications, and compatible accessories.
Note —For information about purchasing additional copies of the Manual de Operação do Rack
Efficia, contact the Philips Customer Care Center.
The following documents are available on Philips InCenter:
• Efficia Rack Installation and Configuration Guide: Provides instructions for unpacking, installing, and
connecting all hardware. Also includes instructions for returning the rack.
• Efficia Rack Service Guide: Provides information about maintaining, basic troubleshooting, and basic
performance verification testing of the rack.
• Efficia Rack Repair Guide: Provides information about repairing, troubleshooting and performance
verification testing of the rack.
• Efficia Rack Data Export Guide: Provides detailed information about the syntax and structure of the HL7
messages that are exported from the monitors.

Overview
This chapter describes how to:
• Unpack the rack
• Install the optional supports
• Connect the rack to the monitor
• Connect the plug-in modules to the rack
Unpacking the Rack
To unpack the rack:
Step
1
Open the shipping container and remove the rack from the container.

Examine the rack for visible damage, such as broken components, dents, or
scratches on the surface of the equipment.

Store all documentation in an appropriate location.
4
Save the packaging material for possible reuse.
Verify that you have received all of the following components:
• The Efficia Rack
• Also contained in the package:
–A PoweredUSB cable.
–The Efficia Rack documentation: The Manual de Operação do Rack Efficia
If you purchased any of the following optional equipment, verify that these items are included in the shipment:
• Bottom support
• Support plate
• Universal clamp
• Arm mount
• Rail

• Unless otherwise specified, hardware products and accessories not supplied by Philips are not approved or
supported for use with the Efficia CM Series monitors and the Efficia Rack.

Installing the Optional Bottom Support with the Universal Clamp
The optional bottom support can be installed on the Efficia rack to serve as an interface for the connection of the
support accessories.
To install the optional bottom support with the universal clamp:

1
First you need to assemble the support accessory into the bottom support.
Position the support accessory over the center of the bottom support. Use the washer together with
each of the M4x10 Torx screws on the Universal Clamp side to tighten the screws.
Note —The universal clamp can be mounted both horizontally and vertically in relation to the
bottom support.
Note —Ensure to follow any additional instructions that comes with the support accessory.

Use one washer for each of the two screws. Position the bottom support on the bottom of the rack
and use a Phillips driver to tighten the screws.

Ensure that all the screws are securely tightened and there is no looseness in the assembly.
Caution
If you connect the Dixtal Gases module, ensure that the rack is positioned in a way that watertrap can be used
in the vertical position. Otherwise the efficacy of the filter of the watertrap cannot be guaranteed.

The optional support plate can be installed on the Efficia rack to serve as an interface for the connection of the support
accessories.
To install the optional support plate with the universal clamp:
Step
1
First you need to assemble the universal clamp onto the support plate using the two M4x10 Torx
screws and two washers that come with the universal clamp.
Note —The universal clamp can be mounted both horizontally and vertically in relation to the
support plate.
Note —Ensure to follow any additional instructions that comes with the support accessory.

Position the support plate at the top part of the rack and use a Phillips driver to tighten the four
screws.

Ensure that all the screws are securely tightened and there is no looseness in the assembly.
Caution
If you connect the Dixtal Gases module, ensure that the rack is positioned in a way that watertrap can be used
in the vertical position. Otherwise the efficacy of the filter of the watertrap cannot be guaranteed.
Note —The maximum aperture of the Universal Clamp is 40mm.

To install the optional support plate with the arm mount:

First you need to assemble the support accessory into the support plate.
Tighten the screws that come with the support accessory into the center of the support plate.
Note —Ensure to follow any additional instructions that comes with the support accessory.

Using a Phillips driver, tighten the four screws of the support plate into the top of the rack.

You need to assemble the rail in the wall. Follow the instruction that comes with the rail for wall
mount.

Then you need to assemble the arm mount in the rail. Follow the instruction that comes with the
rail for wall mount and arm mount.

Ensure that all the screws are securely tightened and there is no looseness in the assembly.
Connecting the Rack to the Monitor
Caution
Do not allow liquid to enter the connectors. Wet connectors could prevent connected devices from operating. If
liquid spills on the connectors, clean and dry it thoroughly before reuse.
