The Blu-ray Disc players work both as a DMP
(digital media player) and a DMR (digital media
renderer). With the DMP function, it lets you search
content in a DMS for playback on the Blu-ray Disc
player. If you use it as a DMR, you can stream DMS
content for playback on the Blu-ray Disc player. For
example, you can stream a movie from your
smartphone functioning as a M-DMS (Mobile DMS), and play it
on the Blu-ray Disc player as a DMR.
Depending on file structure and server capacity, it may not be possible to
play certain files, including those listed on page 4 as playable formats. Files
protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) cannot be played. Only
play/pause can be controlled during DMR operation. AVCHD contents
cannot be played via LAN.

iControlAV2012 is an application developed by
Pioneer, freely downloadable from the App Store or
Google Play. The application allows you to use your
device as a remote for controlling the Blu-ray Disc
player’s basic functions. Enjoy smooth control
from your device, with support for 8 languages (same setting as
your device).

connect with a compatibleTV to enjoy 3D cinema or a live performance-like
experience at home.The Blu-ray Disc players support the 3D mandatory formats
of HDMI and are capable of playing Blu-ray 3D packaged software as well as 3D
broadcasts recorded on a Blu-ray Disc.
* To enjoy 3D video, the display, Blu-ray Disc player, AV receiver, and playback disc all
must be 3D capable. A High Speed HDMI®cable is also required to transmit 3D data.
The latest AV receivers from Pioneer — SC-LX86, SC-LX76, VSX-LX56, SC-2022, VSX-
1122, VSX-922, VSX-822, VSX-522, VSX-322, VSX-S500, and VSX-S300 are all 3D

How Human Eyes Work
How 3D Works
When you look at something, the vision captured by the left eye is
slightly different from that of the right eye. This gap is called parallax
difference. As the brain combines the two inputs, parallax difference
creates a three-dimensional appearance.
By applying this principle and delivering different images to the left and
right eyes, 3D video artificially recreates this phenomenon, making the
brain perceive depth from a flat image. The LCD shutter glasses darken
one eye according to the alternating left/right frames — a far more
sophisticated way than the red/blue filter glasses.

3D Video Formats
There are three HDMI mandatory formats for transmitting 3D
signals to TV — the “frame packing”, “side-by-side”, and “top-
and-bottom” methods. The “frame packing” needs twice the
normal bandwidth to send an image (left and right). So the Blu-
ray Disc player must double the transmission capacity.
Therefore, 1920 x 1080 pixel full HD frame packing is mainly used
for movie content with 24 Hz frame rate, while 1280 x 720 HD
pixel frame packing is used for game content with 50 or 60 Hz
frame rate.
The “side-by-side” method maintains the original transmission
frame rate, with left and right images stored in half-horizontal
resolution and stretched to full width for sequential display. The
“top-and-bottom” method also maintains the original
transmission frame rate, with left and right images stored in half
vertical resolution and stretched to full height for sequential
display.

acknowledged for its high-quality video
processing. Qdeo™ video processing provides images free of
noise and artifacts, for a truly immersive viewing experience.
Highly-Precise I/P Conversion

Merely having a high-grade video processor does not guarantee
a quality picture — a fine-tuned setup makes the difference.
Pioneer engineers have performed rigorous testing to achieve
an optimum image from almost any content. This highly-precise
conversion is effective for HD as well as SD sources.
PureCinema I/P Conversion (for theatrical film sources)
Theatrical movies are created at 24 frames per second (fps). For
DVD the progressive frames are converted to an interlaced field
format. For NTSC DVDs, restoring the original frames requires
advanced processing. PureCinema I/P Conversion smoothly
processes the frames without compromising the natural feel of
the movies.
Motion Adaptive I/P Conversion (for video material)
Pioneer Blu-ray Disc players can convert 1080/60i high-definition
sources for compatibility with a 1080/60p display. “Motion
Adaptive” means that I/P conversion is done while analyzing
the condition of the moving image, ensuring the highest picture
quality with minimum noise.

The Blu-ray Disc player features three separate noise reduction
circuits for enhanced video performance:
- Component Frame Noise Reduction (YNR/CNR): reduces
Gaussian noise without blurring the picture
- Block Noise Reduction: reduces block noise in moving
images
- Mosquito Noise Reduction: reduces random noise along
the outline of the images
Stream Smoother

Stream Smoother is a newly developed video adjustment
feature for watching network content on your home theatre. It
reduces block noise and mosquito noise on low bit rate video
content such as YouTube, offering finer and clearer images.The
Blu-ray Disc player itself automatically detects the source type,
and turns Stream Smoother on or off accordingly.

PQLS with HDMI

With the precision quartz controller on a compatible
AV receiver, Pioneer’s Precision Quartz Lock System
(PQLS) eliminates distortion caused by timing
errors. It controls the amount of audio signals from
the AV receiver to the Blu-ray Disc player, giving the
best possible digital-to-analogue conversion.
Three types of PQLS are available depending on the connected
AV receiver (see compatibility chart on right).
- PQLS 2ch Audio: For CD playback (LPCM).
- PQLS Multi-Surround: For CD/DVD/BD sources, when the
Blu-ray Disc player output is set to LPCM.
- PQLS Bit-stream: For CD/DVD/BD sources, all the time.
For PQLS to be effective, Control with HDMI needs to be on, and
— only for PQLS Multi-Surround — HDMI audio output needs to
be set to PCM.
DTS-HD Master Audio™ and Dolby TrueHD

DTS-HD Master Audio™ and Dolby TrueHD are
the highest quality audio formats available,
provided by the huge capacity Blu-ray Disc to
complement its high-definition videos. These
new generation audio codecs bring you the
equivalent of the original soundtrack, just as intended by the
creator.
Sound Retriever Link

Through HDMI connection, Sound Retriever Link
on Pioneer’s AV receiver detects the original audio
file information such as source type, codec, and
bit rate played on a compatible Pioneer Blu-ray Disc player, and
automatically switches to the most suitable Sound Retriever. So
there is no need to switch on/off according to the source.
Advanced Sound Retriever is selected for Blu-ray Disc and DVD
sources, and Auto Sound Retriever is selected for other sources.

The audio and video signals can be separately transferred via
the main and sub HDMI terminals. The isolation of the audio
signals creates pure sound free of interference. Output signals
from each terminal differ by connection mode.

special content from the internet such as bonus

You can open the tray and load a disc, even
while the Blu-ray Disc player is just starting up.
The Quick Tray feature allows immediate
playback when the unit is ready, by eliminating the extra
waiting time.
Continue Mode

With the Pioneer-original Continue Mode, you can easily
continue watching Blu-ray Discs from where you left off. Press
the “CONTINUED” key on the remote control during playback,
then turn off the power.To re-start, turn the power back on,
select “Yes” on the pop-up message, and playback starts from
the memorized point.
