Collaboration with ICEpower — Direct Energy HD Amplifier
ICEpower and Pioneer have collaborated to
develop a unique power module — the Direct
Energy HD Amplifier. Pioneer's technologies
combine with the ICEpower amplifier, which features multiple
feedbacks to overcome the drawbacks typical of class D
amplifiers. This results in overwhelming power, free of distortion.
This year, the Direct Energy HD Amplifier has further evolved —
fine-tuned to every detail including the LPF. The result is
added power capacity which clearly shows in the sound.
Both the SC-LX83 and SC-LX73 are compatible with the
latest high definition audio formats, whereas the SC-LX83 is
also THX Ultra2 Plus certified.
Hi-bit 32/Hi-sampling Audio Signal Processing
These two technologies work together to create undistorted
sound, bringing out the best in the new 32-bit DAC. The 32-bit
DAC hardware alone does not reproduce better sound.
Maximum performance is gained by applying the Hi-bit 32
processing to expand signal resolution, creating more detailed,
smooth sound, closer to the original analogue signal. Hi-bit 32
also increases the sound pressure for a tactile listening
experience, and the more channels you have, the more
impressive it becomes. It is effective for multi-channel content
on DVD/Blu-ray Disc as well as CD audio, and works with any
disc player. Hi-sampling expands the range of the high
frequencies, providing richly detailed, natural sound.

P hase Control
Phase Control is an innovative solution for the
phase lag in a multi-channel speaker setting. It
compensates the delayed bass to improve sound
synchronization.
Full Band Phase Control
The further advanced Full Band Phase Control technology
focuses on the group delay in the speaker network filter, and
compensates with special digital signal processing (DSP), to
adjust the phase of each unit as well as the group delay for
each speaker. Full Band Phase Control gives multi-range
speakers the sound coherence of full-range speakers, while
retaining the wide frequency range advantage.
MCACC (Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System)
Create the optimum acoustic environment with
Pioneer's MCACC, developed with the expertise
of professional recording studios. The system —
complete with custom microphone — automatically
compensates for differences in speaker size, level and distance,
and equalises response.
Advanced MCACC
The Advanced MCACC uses a 3D calibration
method with even more precise measurements
by including the time axis. The A/V receivers
also feature a speaker polarity check for detecting
misconnected cables, and a reverb measurement display for
showing before/after calibration results. With the latest
improvement, the system automatically measures crossover
frequency — much easier than the previous manual setting –
and also lets you save measured data on USB memory for
cable-less PC viewing.
Standing Wave Control
Acoustic standing waves occur when the sound waves from
your speaker resonate with those reflected off the walls.
Depending on the speaker placement, your listening position or
the shape of the room, standing waves have a negative effect
on the overall sound, especially in certain lower frequencies.
Standing Wave Control effectively decreases resonance and
prevents inaccurate EQ-setting calibration.
Precision Distance
Precision Distance is an innovative, world first feature for
making millimetre-level manual adjustments to speaker
distance. You can easily duplicate a skilled installer's precise
positioning with the help of a level gauge shown on the display.

THX Select2 Plus
THX Ultra2 Plus is the highest level THX
certification, featuring THX Loudness Plus
technology, designed to maintain the impact
and integrity of audio content even when
played at lower volume settings. Because most
listeners will play movies and games at a much
lower volume than the Reference Level, some
bass sound, surround effects and ambient
sounds are lost on ordinary systems. THX Ultra2 Plus helps to
deliver sound just as it was mixed in the studio, regardless of
volume level. THX Select2 Plus technology has the same
features as the THX Ultra2 Plus, but is designed for smaller
home theatres.

Pioneer's Precision Quartz Lock System (PQLS) eliminates
distortion caused by timing errors, giving the best possible
digital-to-analogue conversion.
PQLS 2ch Audio
Through HDMI connection, the PQLS 2ch Audio allows
accurate CD-DA signal transmission from a compatible
Pioneer Blu-ray Disc player, reproducing jitter-free, dynamic
sound.
PQLS Multi Surround
Connected to a compatible Pioneer Blu-ray Disc player via
HDMI, the A/V receivers create ideal multi-channel audio
playback with jitter-free signal transmission and precise
reproduction of minute details.
PQLS Bit-stream
This latest PQLS technology allows jitter-less bit-stream
signal transmission from a compatible Pioneer Blu-ray Disc
player for CD audio and DVD/Blu-ray Disc multi-channel
content, letting you enjoy three-dimensional sound full of
detail.
Jitter Reduction Plus
With the high-accuracy digital/analogue PLL preceding the DAC,
the Jitter Reduction Plus feature further reduces jitter and
phase noise. The high-accuracy PLL circuit and the new jitter
reduction IC combine to create a precise sound stage and a
natural sound field at the same time. The technology is effective
for all inputs*.

Advanced Sound Retriever
Pioneer's latest A/V receivers feature the Advanced
Sound Retriever, which restores the output of
compressed audio — such as WMA, MPEG-4 AAC,
and MP3 — to the level of CD sound. The Advanced Sound
Retriever creates new signals to restore the minor details left
out during the compression process.
Multi-Channel Advanced Sound Retriever
Advanced Sound Retriever for multi-surround sound is
compatible with DVD soundtracks featuring Dolby Digital or
DTS.

Pioneer Video Converter/Scaler
To create the ultimate visual and audio experience, our
engineers have devoted all of Pioneer's video technology
expertise in pursuit of visual texture and picture quality. The
high-performance video converter not only provides HDMI
output, but also allows upscaling and I/P conversion for
enjoying high-definition images from all video input. The latest
addition in available upscaling and I/P conversion (shown
below) offers more viewing options. Composite or component
input video signals can be converted for HDMI output to view
on a compatible display. You can also convert from composite
to component or vice-versa.
1080/24p Upscaling
The highly acclaimed video processing technology P.C.24p
(Precise Conversion for 24p) used on Pioneer's flagship Blu-ray
Disc player, is now available on these A/V receivers. You can
enjoy real film-quality images at 24 frames-per-second (fps) in
1080p output from DVDs and TV broadcasts, even with entry
class disc players. Also good for viewing HD broadcasts.

PureCinema I/P Converter
Merely having a high-grade video processor does not guarantee
a quality picture – a fine-tuned setup makes the difference.
Pioneer engineers have performed rigorous testing to achieve
an optimum image from almost any content. For film content,
PureCinema I/P Conversion provides the natural feel of the
original material. For video content, Motion Adaptive I/P
Conversion processes moving images, delivering high-quality
pictures with reduced noise. This highly-precise conversion is
effective for HD as well as SD sources.
Triple HD Video Noise Reduction
The A/V receivers feature three separate noise reduction
circuits for enhanced video performance.
- Component Frame Noise Reduction (YNR/CNR): reduces
Gaussian noise without blurring the picture
- Block Noise Reduction: reduces block noise found in flat areas
- Mosquito Noise Reduction: reduces noise along the outline of
images
The Pioneer-exclusive advanced PureCinema I/P Converter also
helps to remove distracting lines during playback.
Advanced Video Parameters
The A/V receivers feature predefined video settings, as well as
manual settings for various video parameters. In addition to
PureCinema, Progressive Motion, YNR, Detail, Brightness,
Contrast, Hue, and Chroma Level, this year's models have
enhanced noise reduction with adjustable CNR, BNR, and MNR.
Another addition is the Black Setup feature, which corrects the
black depth in the brightness signal. You can select either 0 or
7.5 IRE according to the input signal.

Advanced Direct Construction
Less is more in circuitry design. Advanced Direct Construction
allows the shortest and simplest signal paths — from input to
output, circuit block by circuit block — to reduce distortion that
can be caused by transmission loss, and to improve sonic
clarity.
Rigid Trans-Stabilizer
3D Space Frame Construction
The latest A/V receivers inherit the separated construction
concept of Pioneer's flagship SC-LX90 pre-main amplifier. The 3D
Space Frame Construction is developed together with the rigid
trans-stabilizer to clearly define the mechanical grounding of
the chassis and make the structure strong enough to support
heavy weight. Perfected by repeated CAE strength analysis and
tests, this technology allows each part to deliver maximum
performance. Interference is also reduced by separating and
insulating the power supply, amp, analogue circuit, digital
circuit and video sections from one another.
The SC-LX83 and SC-LX73 come with this Advanced 3D Space
Frame structure, featuring precise framework design,
separating the power supply block, and isolating the analogue
video/audio and digital functional blocks into specific
compartments. This reduces interference by flat cables between
the blocks and improves the operating characteristics to
accurately reproduce even the most delicate signals.
Refined Preamp for Quality Sound
The wiring in the preamp section has been refined, with the
wire length nearly halved from the previous model to minimise
noise.
Independent Power Supply System
The analogue and digital power supply are separated to
eliminate interference between the two, and to provide clean
power to the analogue circuit, while bringing out maximum
performance from the power amplifier for quality sound
reproduction.

DTS-HD Master Audio™ and Dolby TrueHD are
the highest quality audio formats available,
provided by the huge-capacity Blu-ray Disc to
complement its high-definition videos. These
new-generation audio codecs bring you the
equivalent of the original soundtrack, just as intended by the
creator.
High Definition Audio Formats
DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD provide sound that is bit-
by-bit identical to the studio master, delivering sound at extremely
high variable bit rates far exceeding standard DVDs.

Various Speaker Settings
Previous A/V receiver models only allowed surround back
speakers for a 7.1-channel layout (Fig. 1).
This year's lineup provides more options in terms of speaker
placement. Combine front wide speakers (Fig. 2) with
Pioneer-original Wide Surround mode to enjoy more spacious
sound in the front. Or place front height speakers (Fig. 3) and
use Dolby Pro Logic IIz for vertical-spreading sound.
Wide Surround Mode
Pioneer's Wide Surround Mode creates sound with dense
motion feeling around the front and sides. Wide Surround
Movie provides motion feeling in front, while Wide Surround
Music creates a wide-spreading sound field in the foreground.
Dolby Pro Logic IIz
Dolby Pro Logic IIz realises more spacious
surround sound by adding front height
channels to the conventional 5.1ch/7.1ch
speaker settings. The enveloping sound with
additional depth and dimension creates a lifelike listening
experience. Dolby Pro Logic IIz does not require special content,
and works with existing soundtracks.
Virtual Height
If you want to experience vertically falling sound but can not
place front height speakers, there's a perfect solution.
Pioneer's newly-developed Virtual Height mode (Fig. 4) creates
a height sound image without front height speakers, letting you
enjoy enveloping virtual 7.1-channel sound from 5.1-channel
speaker settings.
Virtual Surround Back
Want to be thrilled by surrounding sound from behind, but
don't have the space for surround back speakers? Then try
Virtual Surround Back mode (Fig. 5). It simulates 7.1-channel
surround sound, giving the impression of surround back
speakers when listening to a 5.1-channel source. What's more,
by turning on both Virtual Height and Virtual Surround Back
modes, you can enjoy virtual 9.1-channel sound on a
5.1-channel speaker setting. By adding front wide speakers, you
can enjoy virtual 11.1-channel sound from a 7.1-channel speaker
layout.

Optimum Surround
Dialogue, bass, and surround sound are the three elements of
cinema sound. When soundtracks are played on a home theatre
at a much lower volume, the impression may become quite
different. Optimum Surround is a Pioneer-exclusive listening
mode for solving this problem, developed through repeated
interviews with actual film makers. For each scene, this
technology automatically optimises the balance of the three
elements with an original algorithm. Bring home the real thrills
of the cinema as intended by the creators.
Front Stage Surround Advance
With Front Stage Surround Advance, you can enjoy surround
sound coming from only the front speakers and the subwoofer.
Since wall reflections are not used, the setup is less dependent
on the room environment, allowing front alignment of the
speakers. Front Stage Surround Advance creates an excellent
sound image and natural sound.

Pioneer's latest A/V receivers feature HDMI
V. 1.4a with 3D technology. You can enjoy the
latest 3D Blu-ray Discs and broadcasts by
combining the A/V receivers with a 3D
compatible Blu-ray Disc player, game console, or
tuner (STB) and display via HDMI connection.
The Audio Return Channel (ARC) feature allows
a TV with built-in tuner to send audio data “upstream” to the
A/V receiver via HDMI – so there’s no need for a separate audio
cable. The A/V receivers also support Deep Colour and
x.v.Colour for vibrant, lifelike colours with smooth gradation
transitions. Enjoy full-digital transfer of high-definition audio as
well as up to 1080p video signals by HDMI connection. Multi-
channel PCM (192 kHz), lossless bit-stream, and SACD audio can
also be processed by HDMI single-cable connection.

iPod/iPhone Digital Connection via USB
Enjoy iPod music via digital connection. The included
iPod/iPhone connection cable allows direct USB connection to
the front panel without having to buy a docking station. The
audio signals are directly transferred to the A/V receiver's high-
performance DAC, offering superior sound compared to
analogue connections. What's more, you can operate your iPod
with the A/V receiver's remote control. With an iPhone/iPod
touch, you can even watch YouTube video content enlarged on
your TV screen. In addition to simple 'plug and play'
connectivity, you can display the album artwork* in colour on
your TV. The new Cover List feature lets you visually choose an
album from thumbnail images. Song titles can be shown in 7
languages.
Functions such as the equaliser cannot be controlled using the pre-main
amplifier or receiver, so we recommend you to turn off the equaliser before
connecting. iPod is for legal or rightholder-authorised copying only. Don't steal
music.

Front USB Input
The front panel USB input terminal allows straightforward
connection to a USB memory stick. This plug and play
connectivity enables you to easily play music files or watch
JPEG pictures. All the front terminals, including USB, are gold
plated.
DLNA™ ver. 1.5 Compatible
This unit is compatible with DLNA ver. 1.5, enabled to work not
only as a Digital Media Player for playing DMS audio files, but
also as a Digital Media Renderer to be remotely controlled by a
device such as a smartphone or PC. For example, you can listen
to audio files on a PC in another room, from a separate device in
your living room. DLNA ver. 1.0 allowed certified products to
work together, even between different brands. The latest DLNA
ver. 1.5 allows additional devices such as mobile phones to be
included in a home network, and also provides wider options
for playable formats and control.
Internet Radio
Listen to a multitude of radio shows from around the world on
the internet. The A/V receivers come with 24 preset URLs. You
can also register your favourite stations by just copying and
pasting the URL through your PC's web browser, or by manual
input using the remote control or a USB keyboard.
The SC-LX83 comes with the vTuner, letting you easily access
thousands of radio stations on the internet, from over 100
different countries.

iControlAV App for iPhone and iPod touch
iControlAV is an iPhone/iPod touch application developed by
Pioneer, freely downloadable from the App Store. The application
allows you to use your iPhone/iPod touch as a remote for
controlling the A/V receiver's functions such as volume, zone,
input, PQLS, Phase Control, balance, and emphasis, as well as
basic functions of Pioneer's latest Blu-ray Disc players. Enjoy
smooth control on your iPhone/iPod touch screen, with support
for 7 languages (same setting as your iPhone/iPod touch).

Multi-Zone (ZONE 2/3)
With Pioneer's Multi-Zone, you can play music from different

Web Browser Control
The A/V receivers can be smoothly controlled from your home
network PC's web browser. For each zone, you can turn power
on/off, as well as control volume, input, and listening mode.
Web Browser Control is also useful for enjoying internet radio*.
Get instant access to online music without having to enter the
URL.

Refined GUI for Smooth Operation
The GUI on the latest A/V receivers has been further refined,
resulting in enhanced ease-of-use. Each function has a
dedicated GUI screen, displaying, for instance, iPod/iPhone
data, speaker settings, or EQ adjustments, in 7 selectable
languages — English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch,
and Russian.
Omni Directional RF Remote Control
The A/V receivers are compatible with the CU-RF100-U* Omni
Directional RF remote control. The interactive remote allows
you to see the same status information as shown on the main
unit, such as volume, input, function, and surround mode — on
the easy readable OEL (organic LED) display. The remote can
control from any direction through the RF adapter, even when
the system is hidden inside a cabinet, allowing flexible
placement of the A/V receiver. By using the included IR blaster
cable, you can control up to 4 components. The learning feature
allows the RF remote to pick up commands from conventional
IR remote controls, enabling multiple operations.
