OCR Software Notes
The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software integrated into
JetSuite is a 16-bit application. Although it works properly in the
32-bit JetSuite environment, keep the following in mind:
■The OCR software does not recognize the long file names supported
by Windows 95. When working with OCR, use file names with at
most eight characters plus a three-character extension.
■You can use the OCR Aware feature only with 16-bit applications, such
as Microsoft®Word 6.0 or lower. For details on the OCR Aware
feature, see pages 14-16 of your OCR Users Guide.

11
Toner Cartridge Life
■How long your toner cartridge lasts depends on the print densitythe
percentage of the page that prints black.
■A typical letter has 3% to 5% print density; graphics usually have higher
density. Higher print density means toner is used up faster.
■At 4% print density, a toner cartridge will print an average of 1,500
pages. Remember, this is only an average: actual results may vary.
Note: The first toner cartridge in your new unit has to fill the drum
reservoir and saturate the developing roller with toner. For this reason,
it may need to be replaced sooner than subsequent cartridges.
■We recommend that you use genuine Pitney Bowes consumable
products in your Pitney Bowes 1100. Our microfine, spherical toner
gives you the best print quality.
See your Pitney Bowes 1100 Handbook for ordering information.
Image Drum Cartridge Life
The life of an image drum depends on a number of factors,
including:
■Temperature and humidity
■The type of paper you use
■The number of pages per job.
Since these vary as you use your Pitney Bowes 1100, drum life estimates are
only approximate. The average life of an image drum cartridge is about
10,000 pages of continuous printing.
■“Change Drum Soon”: This message means that the image drum may be
reaching the end of its life. You dont have to replace it right away
your Pitney Bowes 1100 wont suddenly stop workingbut you
should have a replacement drum and toner cartridge handy. You can
keep using the current drum as long as print quality is satisfactory. See
your Pitney Bowes 1100 Handbook for details on replacement.
See your Pitney Bowes 1100 Handbook for ordering information.

12
Printing a Cleaning Page
If you notice repeating marks or imperfections on your printouts, try printing
a cleaning page.
The cleaning page process:
■Removes residual impurities from printing surfaces.
■Reduces problems such as repeating marks, blotching, and shading.
To print a cleaning page:
1Make sure there are no messages in memory.
2Press the Select Function key.
3Press the 10/Message Print from Memory key.
4Press the Yes button. The cleaning page prints. If this does not solve your
problem, see the Problem Checklist in your hardware handbook for other
posssible solutions.
Changing Printers
If you need to remove the Pitney Bowes 1100 from your system and tempo-
rarily replace it with another printer on the same port, be sure to deactivate the
JetSuite status monitor program JetStat in addition to changing the default
printer.
To deactivate JetStat:
1Right-click the JetSuite icon in the system tray (Windows 95) or double-click it
on the desktop (Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups).
2Click Exit JetStat.
Note: Repeat this process whenever you start your computer or restart
Windows.
When you put Pitney Bowes 1100 back on your system, restart your computer to
activate JetStat.
