Break-inhintsforthefirst
1.000miles/1.600kilometers Engineexhaust
Therearenospecificbreak-inrulesforyour
Porsche.However,bytakinga fewprecau-
tionsyoucanhelpextendtheservicelifeand
performanceofyourengine.
Duringthefirst1.000miles/1.600km,all
workingcomponentsoftheengineadjustto
eachothertoa certaindegree.Therefore:
Avoidfullthrottlestartsandabruptstops.
Changespeedsfrequently.Varythethrottle
load.
Donotexceedmaximumenginespeedof
5.000rpm(revolutionsperminute).
Donotruna coldengineathighrpmeither
inNeutraloringear.
Donotlettheenginelabor,especiallywhen
drivinguphill.Shifttothenextpropergearin
time(usethemostfavorablerpmrange).
Theremaybea slightstiffnessinthesteer-
ing,gearshiftingorothercontrolsduringthe
break-inperiodwhichwillgraduallydisap-
pear.
Neverlugtheengineinhighgearatlow
speeds.Thisruleappliesallthetime,not
justduringthebreak-inperiod.
Breaking-inbrakepads
Brakepadsdonothavemaximumbraking
efficiencywhenthecarisnew.Therefore,
morepedalforceisnecessaryduringthe
first100to150miles/150to250km.This
alsoappliestoreplacementbrakepads.
Breaking-innewtires
Newtiresdonothavemaximumtraction.
Theytendtobeslippery.Breakinnewtires
bydrivingatmoderatespeedsduringthe
first60to120miles/100to200km,and
longerbrakingdistancesmustbeantici-
pated.
Engineoilconsumption
Duringthebreak-inperiodoilconsumption
maybeslightlyhigherthannormal.
Asalwaysrateofoilconsumptiondepends
onthequalityandviscosityofoil,thespeed
atwhichtheengineisoperated,theclimate,
roadconditionsaswellastheamountofdi-
lutionandoxidationofthelubricant.
WARNING
•Engineexhaustisdangerousifinhaled,
•Neverstartorlettheenginerunina
closedgarage.Neversitinyourcarfor
prolongedperiodswiththeengineon
andthecarnotmoving.
•Althoughexhaustfumesfromtheen-
ginehavemanycomponentswhichyou
cansmell,theyalsocontaincarbon
monoxide,whichisa colorlessand
odorlessgas.Carbonmonoxidecanbe
fatalifinhaled.
•Ifyousmellgasfumesinthevehicle,
drivewiththewindowsopenbutkeep
thehatchbackclosed.Havethecause
immediatelylocatedandcorrected.
•Becauseofinherenthazards,wedonot
recommendtransportingobjectslarger
thanthosefittingsafelyintotheluggage
compartment.Keepthehatchback
closedwhiledrivingtopreventpoison-
ousexhaustgasfrombeingdrawninto
thevehicle.
•Nevercarryadditionalfuelcontainersin
yourvehicle.Suchcontainers,fullor
partiallyempty,mayleak,causeanexp-
losion,orresultinfireincaseofa colli-
sion.

oftheignitionlockandtolockthe

WARNING

yourpurseorwallet,forinstance,asan
"emergencykey".Ifyouremovetheplastic
headoftheflatkey,youcancliponanillumi-
natedplastichandle(availablefromyour
Porschedealer).Vehicleswitha rearseat
glovecompartmentreceivetwoadditional
keysforthecompartmentlock.

WARNING
NEVERremovethekeyfromthesteering
lockwhileyouaredrivingorasthecaris
rollingtoa stop.Thesteeringcolumnwill
lockwhenyouremovethekey,andyouwill
notbeabletosteerthecar.Thismayresult
ina seriousaccident.
Becauseofthesymmetricalshapeofthekey
shaft,thereisno"wrong"wayofinserting
thekeyinthelocks.
Thenewformatofthekeysmakesunau-
thorizedduplicationofthekeysvirtuallyim-
possible.Thismeans,however,thatyou
yourselfwillnotbeabletogetreplacement

keyscut,unlessorderedfromthemanufac-
turer.
Forthelockablewheelnuts,threeidentical
keys,areincluded.Whentakingthevehicle
toyourPorschedealerortoa workshopfor
wheelortireservice,remembertoleaveone
keywiththeserviceattendant.
Incaseofloss,duplicatewheellookkeys
cannotbefurnishedbyyourPorschedealer.
Donotleavethesekeysinthevehicle.Keep
themina safeplace.

Keynumber
Thekeynumberoftheignitionkeyisimpress-
edona plastictagwhichcomeswiththekeys.
Detachthistagandkeepitina safeplace.
Foryourprotectionagainsttheft:
•Recordthekeynumbersandkeepthemin
asafeplace,suchasyourwallet.Donot
keeptheminthevehicle.
•Ifyoushouldlosea key,provideyour
Porschedealerwiththekeynumberand
thevehicleidentificationnumbertoobtain
aduplicatekey.
Keylight
Twoofthekeyshavea built-inflashlightinthe
keyhead.Thebeamfroma smallbulbinthe
keyheadilluminatesthelowerpartofthekey
stem.
Theflashlightisonaslongasthecontactbut-
tonisdepressed.
Theflashlightispoweredbya 1.5Voltbutton
battery.Whenthebeambeginstofade,re-
placethebattery,becauseanoldbattery
mayleakanddamageyourclothes.

tocarefullyliftthekeyhandlecover.
2.Inserta new,commercialavailablebattery
(1.5V)inthecontactbutton.

Toprotectyourvehiclefromtheft,you
shouldalwaysproceedasfollowswhenleav-
ingyourvehicle:
•Closewindowsandsunroof
•Removeignitionkey
•Engagesteeringlock
•Locktheglovecompartment
•Coverluggage
•Lockdoors
•Lockpetrolcap
Alarmsystem
Thealarmsystemisarmedwhenoneofthe
doorsislockedwiththekey.Light-emitting
diodes(LEDs)inthelockingbuttonsstart
flashingimmediatelytoindicatethatthe
alarmisarmed.
IftheLEDsdonotflashwhenthecaris
lockedorchangetoa double-flashingsignal
after10seconds,notallofthealarmcon-
tactshavebeenclosed.
Thefollowingcomponentsaremonitoredby
thealarm:
•Doors(centraldoorlockingsystem)
•Engine-andluggage-compartmentlids
•Glovecompartment
•Radio
•Ignition
Ifanalarmcontactisbroken,thealarmhorn
willsoundforapprox.4 minutes.Atthesame
time,theinteriorlightsandthehazardwarn-
inglightsflashforapprox.4 minutes.When
thealarmistriggered,theLEDsareswitched
toa double-flashingsignal.
Iftheluggage-compartmentlidisopened
withthekeywhenthealarmhasbeen
armed,thealarmstatusisautomaticallysus-
pendeduntilthelidisclosed.
Whena doorlockisunlocked,thealarmsys-
temisdisarmedandtheLEDsgoout.
Emergencyarming
Ifthecentrallockingsystemisnotworking,
thealarmsystemcanbearmedbyclosinga
doorthreetimesinrapidsuccession.The
LEDsindicatethiswitha double-flashing
signal.
Doors
Toopendoorsfromoutside,pullthereces-
seddoorhandle.
Toopendoorsfrominside,pullrecessed
handle"C"abovearmrest.
Thearmrestshavea built-instoragecom-
partment.Toopen,pressknobinhandcut-
outandtiltarmrestoutward.Toclose,tilt
compartmenttowarddoorpanel.
Thecourtesylightinthelowerdoorpanel
"D"willcomeonwhena doororthehatch-
backisopened.Thelightcanalsobeturned
onoroffwiththeswitchonthelighthousing.

Centraldoorlocking
Withthecentraldoorlockingsystem,both
doorscanbelockedandunlockedelectri-
cally.Thedoorsarelockedwhena keyistur-
nedineitherdoorlockorwhenthekeyis
turnedfurthercounterclockwiseinthelock
oftheluggage-compartmentlid.
Whenthedoorsarelocked,thelockingbut-
tons(A)mustbefullyretracted.
Thetwodoorscanbelockedindividually
frominsidebyturningbutton(B)orbypres-
singlockingbuttons(A).Ifonedoorisunlok-
kedbyturningbutton(B),theseconddoor
isautomaticallyunlockedaswell.
Topreventbeingaccidentallylockedoutof
thevehicle,thecentrallockingsystemcan
onlybeactuatedwhenthedriver'sdooris
closed(evenifthepassengerdoorisstill
open).
Ifthecentrallockingsystemfailstowork,
openandclosethetwodoorsindividually.
Thealarmsystemcanbearmedbyclosing
adoorthreetimesinrapidsuccession.
Centrallockingbutton
Whentheignitionhasbeenswitchedonor
whentheignitionkeyisturnedtoposition1,
bothdoorscanbeelectricallylockedorun-
lockedbypressingthecentrallockingbut-
toninthecenterconsole.Thelampinthe
centrallockingbuttonremainslitwhilethe
systemisactivated.
Thecentrallockingsystemcanalsobeacti-
vatedwiththecentrallockingbuttonwhen
theignitionkeyhasbeenremoved.Todeac-
tivatethesystem,switchontheignitionor
turnbutton(B).

Interiorlights
Theinteriorlights,whichareindependent
fromoneanother,comeon,withtheswitch
intheappropriateposition,assoonasa
doorisunlockedoropenedorthehatchback
isopened.
Theinteriorlightsgooutafterapprox.20
secondsafterthedoorsareclosed.The
lightsgooutimmediatelyiftheignitionis
switchedonorthevehiclelockedwiththe
key.
Theinteriorlightshavethefollowingswitch
positions:
a- lightcomesononlywhena doororthe
hatchbackisopened
b- lightswitchedoffpermanently
c- lightswitchedonpermanently
Theinteriorlightintheheadliningandthe
luggagecompartmentlightareswitchedon
andoffbytiltingthelampglass.Thefootwell
lightsareoperatedbytheswitchintegrated
inthelight.
Thelightforthecentralfuse/relayboardis
switchedonviathedoorcontactswitch.

Doorwarninglights
Theredspotlightsinthereardoorjambswill
comeonwhena doororthehatchbackis
opened.
Powerwindows
Toopenorclose,depresstherocker
switchesinthecenterconsoleinfrontofthe
shiftlever.Theswitchescanonlybeac-
tuatedoneata time.
Thepowerwindowsareoperationalwhen
theignitionisturnedon.
Whentheignitionisturnedoffortheignition
keyremoved,thepowerwindowscanbeop-
erateduntilonedoorisopened.
Openingwindows
Tappingtheswitchesmovesthewindowsin
stagestothedesiredposition.
Pressingtheswitchesforlongerthan0.5
secondsautomaticallyopensthewindows
fully.Themovementofthewindowscanbe
stoppedinanypositionbytappingthe
switchagain.
Closingwindows
Toclosethewindows,theswitchmustbe
helddownuntilthewindowshavereached
thedesiredposition.
Withtheignitionswitchedon,pressingthe
switchforlongerthan0.5secondsautomat-
icallyclosesthedriver'sdoorwindowfully.
Themovementofthewindowcanbestop-
pedinanypositionbytappingtheswitch
again.
Doorlockcontact
Ifthekeyisheldinthelockingpositionwhen
lockinga door,thesunroofandthedoorwin-
dowswillcloseinsuccessionautomatically.
WARNING
Donotputanythingonornearthewindows
thatmayinterferewiththedriver'svision.
Removetheignitionkeytoshutoffpower
tothewindowswitcheswhenthevehicle
isnotattendedbya responsibleperson.
Remember,powerisstillsuppliedtothe
windowswitchesuntilonedoorisopened.

Frontseatadjustments
Thecorrectseatingpositionisall-important
forsafeandfatigue-freedriving.Inorderto
satisfyindividualrequirements,theseathas
infinitelyvariableadjustment.
Werecommendthefollowingprocedurefor
findingthecorrectpositionforthedriver's
seat:
1.Operatelongitudinaladjustmentuntil
yourlegisfullystretchedwiththeclutch
pedaldepressedwhileyourfootisbent.
2.Adjustdesiredfore/aftheight.
3.Claspupperportionofsteeringwheel.
Thenadjustbackrestinclinationsothat
bothshouldersremainincontactwiththe
backrestevenwithyourarmsfully
stretched.
4.Ifnecessary,correctthelongitudinalad-
justment.
Steeringwheeladjustment
Formaximumlegroomandunobstructed
viewoftheinstruments,theheightofthe
steeringwheel,togetherwiththeinstrument
clusterunit,canbeadjusted.
Releaselockingleverunderinstrumentclus-
terfordesiredpositioning(arrow),thenlock
securely.

Shouldtheelectricalseatadjustmentfail,
youcanusethehexagonsocketscrewin
thetoolkitforlongitudinalseatadjustment
byturningtheservomotorbelowthefront
oftheseat.

Seatpositionmemory
Theseatpositionmemorycanstoreupto
threedifferentsittingpositions.Eachposi-
tionstoredinthememorycompriseslon-
gitudinaladjustment,seatheight,backrest
angle,positionandsizeoflumbarsupport
andthepositionoftheoutsidemirrors.The
positionscanbeadjusted,storedorcalled
upregardlessofwhethertheengineisonor
off.

Selectinga position
Adjusttheseatandthetwooutsidemirrors
tothedesiredpositionbyoperatingthe
switchesforseatandmirroradjustment,
Storinga position
Tostorea positioninthememory,pressthe
memorybutton(arrowed)andtheapprop-
riatepositionbutton(button1,2 or3).The
memorybuttonmustbepressedbeforethe
positionbutton.
Callingupa position
Tosettheseattothepositionstoredinthe
memory,theappropriatepositionbutton
mustbedepresseduntiltheseatreachesits
finalposition.Theprocedureiscurtailed
assoonasthebuttonisreleased.Thebut-
tonsareilluminatedforeaselocation.
Oncetheseatreachesitsendpositionthe
mirrorsaresetautomaticallytothepositions
storedinthememory.
Theseatswitchesalwaystakepriorityover
automaticadjustment.Ifa seatswitchisop-
erated,automaticadjustmentisimmediately
interrupted.
Pilotlamp
Aredpilotlampissetinthememorybutton.
Ifadjustmentisinitiated,thepilotlamplights
upuntiltheadjustmentiscompleted.Ifthe
procedureisinterrupted,thelampgoesout
approx.60secondsaftertheignitionis
switchedoff.

Sportsseat
Longitudinaladjustmentandbackrestad-
justmentarecarriedoutmanuallyonsports
seats.
Tomovetheseatbackwardsandforwards,
pulltheoutsidelockingleveratthefrontof
theseatupwards,moveseatintodesired
position,releaseleverandensurethatthe
seatengagessecurely.
WARNING
Neverunlockthedriver'sseatwhilethevehi-
cleisinmotion:theseatmaymovesuddenly,
causingyoutoloosecontroloverthevehicle.
Inordertoadjustthebackrest,pullthein-
sidelockingleveratthefrontoftheseatup-
wards,setseattodesiredpositionandre-
leasethelever.
Whenthereisnoloadonthebackrest,itwill
alwaysbepushedforwardsbyspringforce
whentheleverispulled.
WARNING
Frontseatpassengersshouldnotrideina
movingvehiclewiththebackrestreclined.
Safetybeltsonlyofferprotectionwhenthe
backrestisuprightandthebeltsareprop-
erlypositionedonthebody.Improperly
positionedsafetybeltscancauseserious
personalinjuryinanaccident.
Backrestrelease
Thebackrestcanbefoldedforwardforeasy
accesstotherearseats.Torelease,pullthe
leveronthesideofthebackrestup(arrow)
and,atthesametime,tiltthebackrestfor-
ward.Whenthebackrestistiltedback,the
lockwillengageautomatically.
WARNING
Fordriverandpassengerprotection,bac-
krestlocksmustbeengagedatalltimes
whilethevehicleisinmotion.
Rearseats
Thebackrestsoftherearseatscanbetilted
forwardtoprovideadditionalluggage
space.
Toreleasebackrest,pulltheleveronsideof
thebackrestupand,atthesametime,tilt
thebackrestforward.
