Selecting the Type of Mounting
Determine whether the roller shade is going to be installed inside the window frame
or outside the window frame.
Inside Mount (IM) or Inside Bracket (IB)
Inside mount installations are mounted inside a window frame or some other
recessed area.

Measuring Width and Length for Inside Mount
Width: measure across the top, middle, and bottom of the window opening. Using the
narrowest dimension, measure to the nearest 1/8”. By using the narrowest measurement
the shade will operate correctly.
Length: measure the vertical dimension of the left, center and right side. Use the
longer measurement, measure to the nearest 1/8”. The factory will make the appropriate
deductions from your measurements on both the tube and the fabric. Do not make any
width or length deductions or additions.
Outside Mount (OM) or Outside Bracket (OB)
Outside mount installations are mounted on the wall, ceiling or on the window molding.

Measuring Width and Length for Outside Mount
Width: measurethe width of the windowopening fromleft to right and add as many
inches as desired for maximum light gap coverage and privacy. If the shade is to be
mounted to trim or framing around the window measure from the trim’s outside edge left
to right. The factory will make deductions from your measurements on both the barrel
and fabric. Once you determine the desired width, round to the nearest 1/8”.
Length: measure the window opening from top to bottom and add as many inches
as desired to this measurement to allow space for mounting brackets above the
opening and enough overlap at the bottom to avoid a light gap. Once you determine
the desired height, round it to the nearest 1/8”. The factory will make theappropriate
allowance for the fabric wrap on the roller tube. If there is trim or framing around the
window, measure from the trim’s outside edge top to bottom, provided the trim
provides the flat space required for an outside mount. If not you can mount the shade
to the wall above the trim. In addition, if the window sill protrudes outside the window
opening at the bottom of the window measure just to the bottom of the sill.

Confirming Measurements
The mostcommon error
in ordering roller shades is reversing the width and length measurements.
Always confirm that the width is the measurement that goes across from
left to right and that the length is the measurement that goes from top to bottom.

Fabric Deductions & Light Gaps
It is extremely important to note when measuring for roller shades that the actual fabric
width of the shade will be less than the window measurement provided. To allow for the
space that the shade brackets, clutch or motor, and the idler end take up, the factory must
make a deduction so that the finished measurement or bracket to bracket measurement
of the shade fits into the width dimension provided.
Please note the below deductions taken by the factory for roller shades without valances.
