About the G1002-C / G1002-C+
Introduction
The G1002-C and G1002-C+ G.hn to Ethernet Bridge complete the G.hn link
(coax) with the G.hn Access Multiplexer (GAM) and convert the G.hn interface to
a standard Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45) interface. They are designed for indoor
installation, usually inside the subscriber premises and connect to a Residential
Gateway (RG) or comparable devices.
While each of these devices perform a similar function, here is a summary of the
unique features of each model:
•G1002-C: this coaxial G.hn Endpoint is locally powered and offers two (2)
Gigabit Ethernet ports (RJ-45). The 1st Ethernet Port can be configured as
a VLAN Trunk port when there is a need to support a large number of
VLANs. The 2nd Ethernet Port can be configured as a VLAN Access port
when there is a need to support no more than twelve (12) VLANs.
•G1002-C+: this coaxial G.hn Endpoint is locally powered and offers two (2)
Gigabit Ethernet ports (RJ-45). The 1st Ethernet Port can be used to power
another device over Ethernet, it can operate in POE mode (15.4W as per
IEEE 802.3af) or in POE+ mode (30W as per IEEE 802.3at). This first port
can be configured as a VLAN Trunk port when there is a need to support a
large number of VLANs. The 2nd Ethernet Port does not support
POE/POE+, it can be configured as a VLAN Access port when there is a
need to support no more than twelve (12) VLANs.
About G.hn
The ITU-T G.9960 G.hn Wave-2 standard leverages the existing telephone wiring
(UTP, CAT-3 or CAT-5/5e) or RG-6/RG-59 coax cabling to deliver a Gigabit
Internet service to each subscriber without the cost, complexity and delays
associated with in-building fiber installation. G.hn is an Access technology for
Operators looking to simplify their access network and backend infrastructure with

G1002-C Quick Installation Guide

an Ethernet-like technology that is highly scalable without some of the inherent
complexity of DSL-related technologies. With G.hn, Operators deliver advanced
services such as Gigabit High Speed Residential Internet and 4K IPTV without the
high capital and operational expenses associated with a fiber retrofit. Each G.hn
subscriber port supports up to 1.7 Gbps of dynamically allocated bandwidth for
near symmetrical Gigabit services over the existing telephone wire or coaxial
cable.
Note: Read Chapter entitled “Safety and Warnings”before proceeding.

G1002-C (COAX) Endpoint
The G1002-C (coax) G.hn Bridge to Gigabit Ethernet comes with two (2) Gigabit
Ethernet port to connect the Residential Gateway (RG).
Figure 1: G1002-C Gigabit Ethernet Port and Status LEDs
The G1002-C comes with a built-in low-pass COAX filter to eliminate any noise
above CATV Channel 30 (258 MHz) to make sure there is no artefact from the
G.hn signal on the CATV channels Note: G.hn uses up to 200 MHz of spectrum
in the range of 5-200 MHz.

G1002-C / G1002-C+ Gigabit Ethernet Ports
The G1002-C and G1002-C+ incorporate two (2) RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
Please note that port GE1 can be configured in VLAN Trunk mode (via the GAM)
if required for your application.
The GE1 port of the G1002-C+ supports Power Over Ethernet to power an external
device. When locally powered, the G1002-C+ can provide up to 30W of power as
per the IEEE 802.3at standard.
Physical Mounting of the G1002-C / G1002-C+
The G1002-C and G1002-C+ share the same base enclosure and have the same
mounting options. You can optionally install (mount) the enclosure on a wall or flat
surface as follows:
1. Select a proper mounting location where you can securely install mounting
screws (not supplied).

2. Use the G1002-C enclosure as a guide to determine where you need to install
the two (2) mounting screws.
3. Install the lower screw into the wall but do no tighten completely. Use a wall
plug if inserting the screws into a dry wall. Leave enough room to insert the
G1002-C enclosure (see step 4).
4. Insert the G1002-C slot (as per the figure 5 below) and slightly tighten the
lower screw to hold the G1002-C in place while you install the top screw.
5. Tighten both screws to hold the G1002-C securely in place but do not apply
too much torque to avoid damaging the screws or the wall mounting.

Use two (2) screws #10 (5mm) to install the
G1002-C enclosure on a flat surface. If mounting
on a dry wall, use adequate wall plugs (not
supplied)
