Introduction
Premiere launched the first of its extensive range of floorcare products over 70 years ago. Its
first range of cleaning and maintenance machines came onto the market in 1966 and are now
second to none for efficiency and design. For literature covering the complete range of both
wet and dry vacuums and rotary polishers please ring our head office in Cheltenham.
Quality Control Procedures
The inspection of component parts and finished machines is governed by detailed performance, quality and
electrical safety specifications. Test results are recorded and all quality assurance systems and records are
approved and inspected by The British Standard Institution in accordance with:-

Machine Care
The manufacture of safe and dependable machinery is not simply a question of checking procedures at the
end of the production line. It is reliant upon in-built quality at design stage and rigid control on the specifica-
tion of every component part.
As owner/operator of a Premiere machine, continued reliability and performance now depends upon the
care taken in keeping your machine well maintained.
The plug of the supply cord shall be removed from the socket-outlet before cleaning the appliance or
undertaking maintenance operations.
These machines should not be stored outdoors in wet conditions.
These machines are suitable for commercial use, for example in hotels, schools, hospitals, factories,
shops, offices, rental businesses and for other than normal housekeeping purposes.
The power cord has to be regularly inspected for signs of damage. If the power supply cord is
damaged, it has to be replaced.
After use, the whole machine, including the cable, should be cleaned with a DAMP cloth using a dilute
solution of Premiere M.P.9. Multi-purpose cleaner. All surfaces should then be polished with a clean
duster untiI dry.
DO NOT use acid descalers, abrasives or powerful solvents such as paint strippers, which may
scratch, etch or dull surfaces.
Pads and brushes should be washed immediately after use in a solution of M.P.9 Multi-purpose
cleaner and hot water.
Rinse thoroughly and allow to drip dry at normal room temperature. Accessories clogged with spirit
based solvent wax should be scrubbed clean using Premturps or Premiere W.S. 70 wax stripper in
accordance with instructions given on the product label.

Store in a dry place.
To ensure efficient motor cooling, the air intake around the chrome motor cover should be kept clear of dirt,
dust and fluff using a dry brush.
Leaving your machine standing on brushes, drive plates or pads when not in use, even for short periods,
will distort and damage the accessories and destabilise the machine in operation.
Continued use during a voltage reduction will cause overheating and may result in the motor burning out. If
a noticeable drop in voltage supply occurs, it is advisable to switch off and investigate.
Heeling the machine whilst in operation by raising or lowering the handle excessively in order to increase
the pressure between the brush or pad and the floor, can damage both the machine and the floor covering.
Warning
The plug should not be subjected to undue stress by pulling on the supply cord.

Important
The specification chart details which models are available for alternative power supplies i.e. 220v, 110v,
50Hz or 60Hz. Since a different plug and fuse rating may be required it is essential to specify the power
supply when ordering your machine.
6 If the plug fitted to the appliance is not correct for your socket outlets it should be cut off and the correct
plug fitted. DESTROY the removed plug which will be dangerous if plugged into a live socket.
7 For moulded plugs, replacement fuse covers must be the same colour as the one originally supplied.
NEVER use with fuse cover omitted.
Cables and Extension leads
Each machine is designed for use with a specified cable. Similarly the specification and length of any
extension lead is critical to the safe and efficient operation of all Premiere machines. We strongly advise that
only cables and extension leads supplied by Premiere are used.
See Guarantee section on page 8.
Before Use
1 Check that the voltage stamped on the serial plate is the same as
your supply voltage.
2 The wires in the mains lead of these appliances are coloured in
accordance with the following code: Green and yellow : Earth /
Blue : Neutral / Brown : Live.
3 As the colours of the wires in the mains leads of these appliances
may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the
terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
The wire which is coloured green and yellow must be connected
to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by
the earth symbol, or coloured green or green/yellow. The wire
which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is
marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is
coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is
marked with the letter L or coloured red.
4 A 230V power supply required the use of a 3-pin fused plug.
5 Fuse rating 13 amp.

Fitting/Removing Accessories
For all SV 380 MD Models
1 Tilt machine backwards so that handle rests on floor and base
of machine is exposed - DIAGRAM 1
2 Offer up accessory so that triangular form aligns with that of
mating drive.
3 Rotate accessory anti clockwise to secure - DIAGRAM 2
4 Place machine in upright position.
5 Rotate accessories clockwise to remove from machine.
WARNING
These appliances have been designed for use with accessories
supplied by Premiere.
The fitting of alternative accessories may affect both safety and
performance.
Fitting/Removing Multi-Disc Accessories
- DIAGRAMS 3
1 Tilt machine backwards so that handle rests on floor and base
of machine is exposed.
2 Offer up MD accessory so that triangular form aligns with that
of mating drive.
3 Align the four individual drive gears located on MD accessory
so that teeth are in mesh with those on internal ring gear
mounted on base of machine.
4 Rotate MD accessory clockwise whilst ensuring that the
individual drive gears remain in-mesh with internal ring gear
teeth. The helical tooth form will assist in feeding the MD
accessory into position.
5 When the MD accessory is fully located against drive rotate
anti-clockwise to secure so that triangular form and mating
drive are interlocked as shown.
6 Rotate accessory clockwise to remove from machine.

Fitting Solution Tank - DIAGRAMS 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8
1 Sit solution tank on top of rotary machine, align locking keeper
(A) with mating catch (B) and apply vertical pressure on tank
assembly to secure - DIAGRAM 4
2 Align slots in bracket (D) with inserts in side of machine
handle. Using two screws provided lightly clamp bracket into
position. Do not fully tighten bracket at this stage - DIAGRAM 5
3 Connect plastic tube (C) to feed point on machine base -
DIAGRAM 6
To fit Control Cable
4 Slide cable loop over left hand flow control lever (E) and locate
in groove - DIAGRAM 5.
5 Slide bush (H) on control cable (F) into slot in bracket (D) and
tighten hand nut (J) to secure - DIAGRAM 5.
6 With handle in the UPRIGHT position, lightly push bracket (D)
down until any free play in control cable (F) is eliminated. Firmly
tighten bracket screws and cover screw heads with snap
caps provided.
Do not apply excessive force when adjusting bracket for free
play.
7 Attach cable guide bracket (G) to handle tube by locating in
hole provided - DIAGRAM 7
Operating Solution Tank
1 Always fill solution tank in upright position.
2 The useful capacity of the tank for calculating dilution rates
when mixing cleaning solution is 10 litres.
3 Remove lid by sliding retaining catch in outward direction as
shown - DIAGRAM 8
4 Fill tank with solution.
5 Replace lid and push retaining catches inward to secure.
6 To operate, gently raise flow control lever (E) whilst machine is
running.
7 To empty:
a.Disconnect plastic tube (C).
b.Unscrew hand nut (J) and slide bush (H) on control cable (F)
from slot in bracket (D).
c.Slide cable loop from flow control lever (E).
d.Place hand under front of solution tank and lift to unlatch, slide
operating cable through guide bracket (G) and remove tank
from machine.
e.Remove lid, pour out cleaning solution and then rinse.

Operation of PV5 Series
Proceed as follows:
1 Ensure that handle is in upright position.
2 Select and fit appropriate accessory.
3 Operate cable stowage quick release and remove cable from
stowage - DIAGRAM 9
4 Check that power supply is the same as that stamped on the
serial plate on the machine.
5 Plug machine into power socket. Check that neon lamp on top of
handle is illuminated.
6 Stand behind and press handle positioning lever (A) and lower
handle to a comfortable operating position. Release lever (A) -
DIAGRAM 10
Note: This position must be more than 40 degrees from the vertical
for the power to be available to the motor.
7 With index fingers press on/off lever lock buttons to unlock on/
off levers - DIAGRAM 10
8 Press either or both of the on/off levers to start the machine.
9 Ensure that mains cable is well clear of the area to be cleaned.
10Raise and lower handle to guide machine to the right or left as
required.
Note: This operation does not require movement of the handle
positioning lever (A).
The response of the machine, particularly the high speed models is
extremely positive and it is inadvisable to attempt to guide the
machine by operation of the handle positioning lever (A).
11 On completion release on/off lever.
12 Operate handle positioning lever to return handle to upright
position.
13 Remove plug from power socket and stow cable on cable
stowage.
14 Remove accessory.
Please note: flow control lever (B) is for use with solution tank only -
DIAGRAM 10

WARNING
During operation hazard may occur if the machine is run over the
supply cord. If the supply cord is damaged, it should be replaced.

Cleaning Methods
Premiere Products manufacture over fifty different cleaning and maintenance chemicals designed to cope
with every cleaning task. Detailed information on the range and application of Premiere cleaning chemicals
and equipment is available from our local representative or head office in Cheltenham.
To Shampoo Carpets - Standard Velocity Machines only
1 Shampoo in dry weather or when room is heated. If possible allow for overnight drying.
2 Check that shampoo is compatible with colour fastness of carpet. Test by applying a little shampoo to a small
area of carpet and rub with clean white cloth. If compatible there will be no evidence of colour on the cloth.
3 Move as much furniture as possible from carpet.
4 Raise carpet pile with stiff nylon broom. Then vacuum.
5 Mix shampoo in solution tank according to instructions given on the container.
6 Do not over wet carpet.
7 Apply shampoo until a reasonable amount of lather is visible. (The depth of the pile will determine the
amount of shampoo to be used.)
8 Whilst still damp, restore pile to its natural state using a stiff nylon brush.
9 On completion allow carpet to dry thoroughly then vacuum to remove dry detergent and loosened dirt.
To Scrub Floors - Standard Velocity Machines only
1 Use recommended floor cleaning agent. Mix cleaning agent in solution tank according to instructions on container.
Note: Cork and wood floors, unless sealed, can be damaged by water.
2 Operate machine, releasing cleaning solution as required.
3 Remove suds with mop or Premiere WPU 120, WPU 140 or WPU 160 wet pick up, then rinse thoroughly
with clean water. Remove rinse water.
4 Allow floor to dry out. Apply polish as necessary.
Servicing
Although your new PV5 should give many years of trouble free operation, an annual service by our
engineer is recommended to minimise the risk of an inconvenient and untimely breakdown.
Should a fault occur, the following checking procedure may provide an immediate solution.
DO NOT exceed the basic checks suggested here.
No liability is accepted and both the guarantee and approvals are invalidated if repairs are carried out other
than by a Premiere Products Service Engineer or an approved service agent.
If a service call is required ring 01242 537150 and specify the model name shown on the cmotor cover
label and the serial number stamped on the serial plate located on the base casting located on the base
casting underneath the handle pivot.
If the machine will not start
The plug of the supply cord shall be removed from the socket-outlet before cleaning the appliance or
undertaking maintenance operations.
The power cord has to be regularly inspected for signs of damage. If the power supply cord is damaged, it
has to be replaced.
If neon light is dull or not working, replace fuse in plug, ensuring that it is held tightly by the fuse holder.
Check power supply from the socket by substituting another electrical appliance.
Check if overload switch has tripped, if so reset.
Operation of overload switch
- only fitted to certain High Performance Models

Should the machine be subjected to an overload condition the
overload switch will trip out. It can be reset after approx. 30 seconds
by pressing the RED button in the centre of the machine handle.
The machine can then be used again without delay. (A badly
maintained machine and accessories may artificially induce an
overload - refer to machine care Page 2.)

If motor runs hot and lacks power
Check air intake around Chrome motor cover is clear.
If fuses persistently blow or overload switch constantly trips.
Remove any extension cables and try again. If the machine then operates correctly please contact our
service department immediately regarding the correct specification of extension lead to be used.
Ensure PV5 model in question is being used in its correct role.
An excessive build up of polish/dirt on the floor produces a sticky surface. To overcome this drag, the
motor works harder requiring more current. This can blow fuses particularly when using high velocity
burnishing machines. Strip away polish/dirt and retreat the floor using a standard velocity scrubbing
machine.
Dirty or clogged brushes and pads can produce the same effect and should be cleaned.
If machine unbalanced in operation
If machine is left standing on the brush or pad they can become distorted. Substitute an alternative or
detach the damaged accessory and allow it to regain its shape.
Brushes and pads should be an even thickness and the accessory chosen should be suitable for the task.
Damaged or worn out accessories should be replaced.
Guarantee
All machines manufactured by Premiere Products Machine Division are guaranteed for a period of TWELVE
MONTHS from the date of purchase by the user against all faults in materials or workmanship. This period
can be extended to TWO YEARS provided a service contract is taken out at the time of purchase.
The Guarantee is not transferable. The liability under the Guarantee covers the repair or replacement of the
machine or part thereof found to be defective.
No liability is accepted for insignificant deviations from normal standard which would not affect the value and
safe operation of the machine or for damage caused by chemical or electrochemical action of water or any
other abnormal environmental influences. No liability is accepted for damage to any component caused by
accident, misuse, neglect or through the machine being operated on a voltage other than that stated on the
serial plate.
No product liability is accepted and both Guarantee and approvals are invalidated if repairs are carried out
other than by a Premiere Products Service Engineer or an approved service agent.
No product liability is accepted and both Guarantee and approvals are invalidated if replacement parts other
than those supplied by Premiere Products are used during repair. The service engineer or agent is entirely
responsible for ensuring the fitting of the correct replacement parts appropriate to the model being repaired.
The decision as to whether the component part or machine will be repaired or replaced rests entirely with
Premiere Products. Where defective parts have been repaired or replaced the Guarantee will not be
extended beyond its original term.
All faulty parts which have been replaced under the terms of the Guarantee will become the property of
PremiereProducts.
Claims relating to damage caused to other property or persons will not be entertained unless Premiere
Products are specifically required to do so by law.
Any claim under the terms of the Guarantee is subject to provision of proof of purchase.
No liability is accepted for the use or application of Premiere Products machinery, outside the specific
recommendations given in the companys printed publications.
No liability is accepted by Premiere Products for any advice given by distributors or service agents which
exceeds the specific recommendations given in the companys printed publications.
We continue to reserve the right to alter the designs of any products as part of a further process of improve-
ment, and items supplied may therefore vary from those illustrated in this publication.

HeaIth and Safety at Work Act 1974
Part 1 Section 6 Of the Act requires that manufacturers ensure, in so far as is reasonably practicable, that all
articles manufactured are designed and constructed to be safe and without risk to health when correctly
used.
AIl machine products produced by Premiere Products are manufactured and tested to the relevant British
Standards and in accordance with major European standard requirements. They are accompanied by
operating instructions which should be read carefully by the person operating the machine and responsible
for the cleaning operation. Additional copies are available on application quoting model numbers. Although
our products are safe when correctly used, there are points which should be carefully noted by the
responsible person or the Safety Officer.
1 The machine must be disconnected from the mains supply before any maintenance work is undertaken.
2 The appropriate fused plug to the applicable national standard and the requirements of the machine should
be fitted to the supply cable and checks should be made from time to time to ensure that the cable is not
frayed and is fitted securely. If in doubt consult Premiere Products.
3 Ensure that the cable is not crushed, overstretched or damaged by any sharp object. Do not use if mains
cable is damaged or frayed and have it replaced by a Premiere Products Service Engineer or approved
Service agent.
4 The DVU 540 & DVU 590 are designed for dry use only. Any attempt to pick up liquids such as coffee
spillages may irreparably damage the motor and create an electrical hazard.
5 No change or adaptation should be made to the machine without first consulting Premiere Products.
6 The machine should not be used for the collection of dangerous, toxic or hazardous materials or used
where explosive vapours or dust are present. No liability is accepted by Premiere Products for any advice
given by distributors or service agents regarding the use of Premiere Products machinery in specialist or
hazardous environment.The entire responsibility for the use of Premiere Products machinery in specialist
environments rests with the end user, their appointed Safety Officer or the person responsible for such
matters at the users premises. References should be made to Environmental Hygiene Series Guidance,
Note No, EH10 Asbestos - hygiene standards and measurements of airborne dust concentrations. You
should also obtain and read a copy of the Health and Safety at Work booklet No 22 Dust Explosion in
Factories and both of these manuals are published by the Health and Safety Executive. The following
publications should also be obtained and read: Technical Data Note 14 Health Dust in lndustry published
by the Department of Employment and Productivity.

7 If a fault should develop, the machine should be clearly marked OUT OF ORDER and the supervisor or
Safety Officer notified.

Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
The regulation requires that each and every piece of electrical apparatus in the work place be regularly
tested for electrical safety, be clearly identified and that a traceable record of testing be established and
maintained.
Guidance should be obtained from the Safety Officer.

Entretien des machines
La fabrication de machines fiables et sans danger ne repose pas simplement sur des contrôles effectués à la
fin de la chaîne de production. Elle dépend d'une qualité incorporée dans l'étude, ainsi que d'un contrôle
rigoureux des spécifications de tous les éléments constitutifs.
A titre de propriétaire ou d'utilisateur d'une machine Premiere, les performances et la fiabilité constantes de
votre machine dépendent de son bon entretien.
La prise du fil d'alimentation devra être retirée du socle de la fiche avant de commencer le nettoyage de
l'appareil ou d'entreprendre toute opération de maintenance.
 Ces machines ne doivent pas être stockées à lextérieur par temps de pluie
 Ces machines conviennent à une utilisation commerciale, par exemple dans des hôtels,des écoles,
des hôpitaux, des usines, des magasins, des bureaux, des entreprises de location et pour les usages
ménagers quotidiens.
 Le câble électrique doit être vérifié régulièrement et en cas de dommage, doit être remplacé.
Après chaque l'emploi, la machine complète, câble compris, doit être nettoyée avec un chiffon HUMIDE;
utiliser une solution diluée de produit de nettoyage universel Premiere M.P.9. Les surfaces chromées et
en acier inox doivent ensuite être polies avec un chiffon propre, jusqu'à ce qu'elles soient sèches.
NE JAMAIS utiliser des décapants acides, des abrasifs ou des solvants puissants tels que les
décapants pour peintures, qui risquent d'érailler, d'attaquer ou de ternir les surfaces.
Le contrôle de qualité
L'inspection des pièces détachées et de la machine à son stade final est réglée par des spécifications
détaillées en matière de fonctionnement, de qualité et de sécurité électrique. Les résultats des essais sont
enregistrés et toutes les procédures de contrôle de qualité et les documents inhérents doivent être
approuvés et vérifiés par "the British Standards Institution" (Institut de la Norme Britannique) conformément
