INTRODUCTION
Today’s recorded mediums are vastly superior to the recordings of just a few years ago. Unfortunately, many
loudspeakers available today cannot match the extended frequency response and dynamic range available from
today’s digital sources, let alone maintain compatibility with recording and playback advances yet to come.
Pro-Linear loudspeakers are designed and engineered to meet your discerning requirements both today and in the
future. Each Pro-Linear loudspeaker is rigorously engineered, crafted and tested to meet exacting standards for the
reproduction of music from all sources. From the delicacy of a violin concerto to the power and excitement of electronic
rock or jazz, your new high-performance loudspeakers handle the most demanding music with ease. A mere 5 watts of
amplifier power will drive the extremely efficient Pro-Linearspeakers to thunderous levels.
CONNECTING YOUR LOUDSPEAKERS
Disconnect the power cord of your Home Theatre Receiver and set the volume to its minimum positionbefore
attempting to connect your speakers and subwoofer. Set the POWER switch of your Active Subwoofer to the OFF
position and rotate the VOLUME control to the MIN position.
Please use the supplied speaker wire to connect your speakers. When connecting, be careful to connect the red
speaker terminal to the red (+) terminal on your amplifier. The black speaker terminal should be hooked to the black (-)
terminal on the amplifier. The conductor wire is marked to simplify proper connection. One side of the wire will be
identified by printing, a raised ridge, or a different colour conductor. Use this marked side for red (+). To verify proper
connection, switch your amplifier to MONO and place your speakers close to each other. Adjust your balance control
so that only one speaker is playing. Listen to the bass level and adjust the balance control so that both speakers are
playing. If the bass decreases when both speakers are playing, one of the connections is wrong.
Double check the wiring after completing the connection. Plug in the AC power of both Active Subwoofer and your
Home Theatre Receiver. Move the POWER switch on the Active Subwoofer to the ON or AUTO position.
CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER
To connect speaker wireto the center channel speaker, remove the chrome end cap, feed the wire through the hole on
the rear of the speaker, and insert wire into the terminals. Replace the chrome cap.
SATELLITE SPEAKERS
To connect the speaker wire to the satellite speakers remove the chrome end cap and insert the wire into the terminals.
To mount the satellite speaker onto the supplied base DO NOT replace the chrome end cap. Feed the speaker wire
through the hole in the top of the baseuntil you are able to pull it through the hole in the glass at the bottom of the base.
Gently push the satellite speaker onto the top of the base.

SPEAKER PLACEMENT
The performance of your new Pro-Linear loudspeakers, as with any high quality system, can be influenced by
placement in your listening room. Consider these rules as you select their positions:
1. You’ll find bass performance from your speakers affected by their placement in your listening room. Generally, more
bass will be generated the closer the speakers are to as many surfaces or corners (walls, floor, and ceiling) as possible.
Conversely, the least bass will be produced the further they are from the room surfaces. Your speakers have been
designed to be in the most balance when they share a wall and are within two feet of another surface. Don’t forget that
you can “tune” the bass in your listening room by shifting speakers towards (more and deeper bass) and away from
(less and not as deep bass) the areas where room surfaces meet.
2. The speakers should of course face your listening area in the room and ideally the grille fronts should be “aimed”
towards ear level.
FRONT SPEAKERS
Your Pro-Linear speakers are designed to produce a “stage like” image. To take full advantage of this feature the
speakers should be separated by about half the distance as they are from the listening location to the speakers. For
example, if your listening position is about 10 feet from the speakers, the left and right speakers should be about five
feet apart. Please see Figure1.

CENTRE CHANNEL SPEAKER
The Pro-Linear center channel should be centrally located between the left and right main channels, placed above or
below the television set. Be sure that the center channel speaker front grille is aligned with the front of the television,
rack, or cabinet, to maximize dispersion. Please see Figure1.
SURROUND SPEAKERS
The Pro-Linearsurround speakers can be positioned in a variety of locations, but ideally should be positioned on either
side of the listener. Please refer to Figure1 for their locations.

POWERED SUBWOOFER WIRING INSTRUCTIONS
Use the supplied RCA cable to connect the Pro-Linear subwoofer input to your home theatre amplifier or receiver
subwoofer pre-out. If your receiver does not have a subwoofer pre-out, use speaker wire to connect it to the
subwoofer’s high level input connectors. See figures on the following page for instructions.
POWERED SUBWOOFER PLACEMENT
A precisely engineered powered subwoofer is equipped in this Pro-Linear home theatre system. This powered
subwoofer can be placed virtually anywhere in your listening room without significantly affecting the stereo image of
your main speakers. However, interactions between a subwoofer and a room’s acoustic properties will have some
impact on overall bass performance. Here is a simple experiment to help you find a placement for the subwoofer in
your room, which will yield the best bass performance.
You can start by placing the subwoofer near a corner, which will produce maximum bass output, but may result in a
boomy sound. If so, move the subwoofer away from the corner gradually until you find the location that yields maximum
bass output without boominess.
Although a clear path between the subwoofer and listening position is not required, it is important to leave at least 4
inches (10 cm) of clearance between the subwoofer and walls or room furnishings.

POWERED SUBWOOFER CONTROLS
Adjustment controls of this powered subwoofer are located on the rear of the unit. See figure below.
VOL (Volume)adjustment knob: This rotary control adjusts the output level of your Pro-Linear subwoofer and should
be used to balance the volume level of the subwoofer with that of your main satellite speakers. See Subwoofer
Calibration below.
FREQ (Frequency)adjustment knob: This rotary control adjusts the high frequency roll-off of the subwoofer.
Continuously variable from 40Hz to 180Hz, it is used to precisely match the subwoofer bass reproduction with that of
your main/satellite speakers. See Subwoofer Calibration below.
Power switch: Your subwoofer is equipped with an “On/Auto/Off” switch. When set to “Auto”, theinternal circuit
automatically turns your subwoofer on as soon as it senses a program signal. 5 –15 minutes after the program signal
ends, this circuit automatically turns the Subwoofer off.
Phase switch: This switch allows matching of the phase of the subwoofer with that of your main/satellite speakers. It
compensates for the mid-bass acoustic effects of different speaker locations and listening room acoustic effects.
SUBWOOFER CALIBRATION
1. Set the subwoofer VOL adjustment knob to its zero position. Set the subwoofer FREQ knob to 40Hz. Set any
loudness, bass/treble, and/or equalizer controls on your preamplifier or integrated amp/receiver to their normal or
mid-point positions.
2. Play a familiar CD, record, or video soundtrack that has substantial bass content.
3. Gradually turn the subwoofer Volume knob clockwise until you achieve a neutral balance between the subwoofer’s
deep bass output and your main/satellite speakers.
4. Slowly turn the Subwoofer FREQ knobclockwise to reach the best mid bass blend with your main/satellite speakers.
This will be the point at which the bass retains solid impact and fullness. If the mid bass becomes “boomy” or ill
defined, you have gone too far and should turn the control counter-clockwise to the best balance point. If the sound is
too thin (i.e., male vocals are not full sounding) then turn the control clockwise to the best balance point.
NOTE: The subwoofer Volume control is designed to control the balance between your subwoofer and main/satellite
speakers and should not be used as a substitute for the bass or loudness controls on your amplifier or receiver. Adjust
the subwoofer’s level for smoothest low frequency performance. If more bass is desired, then advance the bass and/or
loudness controls on your main amplifier or receiver.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT POWER HANDLING AND YOUR WARRANTY:
Almost any speaker can be used successfully with almost any amplifier. Conversely, almost any speaker can be
damaged by almost any amplifier -regardless of either unit’s power rating. The power recommendations that we
publish for our loudspeakers are based on several assumptions about the amplifier, the type of music and the
conditions of use. First and foremost, we assume that the volume is never set above the point of audible distortion.
Distortion is an indication that either the amplifier or the loudspeaker is operating outside its normal design limits.
Loudspeaker damage is likely within a short period of time if distortion is heard. If you hear distortion, immediately turn
the volume down. Failure to do so may result in damage that is not covered by the warranty. Our loudspeakers are
designed to reproduce music and speech in a home environment. They are not designed for use in sound
reinforcement systems or for reproducing sound effects or test tones at other than moderate levels in a home setting.
When used within their limits, our loudspeakers should provide many years of trouble free performance.
