1. Introduction
Welcome to Adire Audio’s KIT281 loudspeaker system. The KIT281 is a high-efficiency MTM system
designed for home audio reproduction, as well as home theater applications. It features two Adire Audio
AV8 midwoofers and a single Audax TM025F1 tweeter per side, which yield an in-room system sensitivity
of 92 dB SPL @ 2.83 Vrms.
2. Parts
Your kit should include the following parts:
Part Qty Use
KIT281/W 2KIT281 woofer crossover
KIT281/T 2KIT281 tweeter crossover
AV8 8” video shielded midwoofer 4Woofers
TM025F1 video shielded tweeter 2Tweeters

4. Speaker Assembly
4.1. Mount crossovers
Using the 6/32 black screws, mount the crossovers in the cabinet, making sure the wires can reach from the
input cup to the drivers.
citors down with the masking tape.
4.2. Connect drivers
Connect the drivers to the crossovers. Simply slide the FAST-ON connectors on the speaker tabs. Make
sure the polarities are all correct.
4.3. Mount drivers
Use the smaller T-Nut sets to mount the tweeters in their holes. Use the larger T-Nut sets to mount the
woofers in their holes.
4.4. TEST, TEST, TEST
Connect the connection wires to the drivers. For the Audax tweeter, note that the positive terminal is the
wider terminal! The narrow terminal is negative. Now mount the crossovers in the cabinets; lay them
down on any suitable brace, or strap them to the wall of the cabinet with masking or duct tape.
Mount the drivers into the cabinets. Now connect the crossover input wires to the terminal cup. Connect
the terminal cup to your amp, and TURN THE VOLUME ALL THE WAY DOWN.
Start playing some music. Turn the volume up VERY slowly. Put your ear in front of the tweeter, to make
sure no bass is coming from it. Likewise, listen to EACH woofer to make sure no really high frequencies
are coming from them.
SLOWLY increase the volume a bit more. Listen to the soundstage, frequency response, and general
timbre of the speaker. If all sounds OK, then continue on to the next step. Otherwise, see section5for
details on tracking down a potential crossover problem.
4.5. Enjoy!
We trust this step is self-explanatory…J

5. System Troubleshooting
So you encountered a few problems in assembling the speakers. Here are some common tips to check over:
1. Make sure the polarity of the drivers is observed. Reverse connections will create a deep suckout in
the midrange.
2. Make sure the drivers are wired to the outputs of the crossover.
3. Verify that the tweeter polarity is correct: the positive tweeter terminal is the wider terminal.
4. Contact us! We try to answer all questions within one business day. You can reach us at

6. Cabinet Plans
We provide three basic cabinet plans for you touse: a sealed box, a vented box, and a transmission line
box. Also provided is the basic driver layout, if you decide to build your own box design.
6.1. Driver Layout
Note that this layout is what we designed around. Keep the baffle width the same as shown here, and the
driver locations the same with respect to the upper right hand corner, and you can rest assured that the
crossover will function fine. There’s really no reason to change the XO if the baffle is longer, or the box
alignment changes; those effects will only make a difference in the sub-200 Hz range, where the crossover
has no impact.

6.2. Sealed Cabinet Plans
The Sealed Cabinet KIT281 is a net 27 liters, stuffed with 16 ounces of polyfill (8 ounces behind the each
midwoofer). This alignment is designed to provide bass extension to 68 Hz anechoic, with a system Qtc of
0.81. The result is a slight bump in the midbass, which is recommended for limited-bandwidth systems.
The higher-Qtc value, in combination with the 68 Hz anechoic extension, will yield typical in-room
extension into the 40 Hz range.
Maximum SPL (driven with 100W) will be in excess of 105 dB SPL (at 1 meter) from 30 Hz and up, which
makes this system well-suited for home theater applications. In addition, the system will handle 100W
continuously over the entire audio bandwidth while remaining within linear excursion limits.

6.3. Vented Cabinet Plans
The Vented Cabinet KIT281 is a net 61 liters, tuned to 28.8 Hz, stuffed with 24 ounces of polyfill (6 ounces
behind the each midwoofer, with the remainder in the lowest chamber of the cabinet, below the vent). This
alignment is designed to provide bass extension to 45 Hz. Additionally, the system will mimic sealed box
with a Q=0.577 (±1 dB) down to 20 Hz. This low-Q response, in combination with the 45 Hz anechoic
extension, will yield typical in-room extension into the 30 Hz range.
NOTE: The KIT281 is NOT supplied with vent tubes! We recommend use of our flared vent kits;
however, you can use standard black ABS pipe (3” ID) for the vents if you so choose. If you choose to
use the flared vent kits, the center tube iscut to 2.5” length. For straight ABS pipe, you want a vent
length of 7.5”.
Maximum SPL (driven with 100W) will be in excess of 105 dB SPL (at 1 meter) from 22 Hz and up, which
makes this system well-suited for home theater applications. In addition, the system will handle 100W
continuously from 25 Hz and up, resulting in near-full range reproduction for a two-way system.

6.4. Transmission Line Cabinet Plans
The Transmission Line Cabinet KIT281 is a net 90” long line, tapered from 4.5” width at the top to 3”
width at the terminus. This results in a line tuning of 37.5 Hz. The line is stuffed with 24 ounces of
polyfill in the 4.5” width section, 16 ounces of polyfill in the middle 3.25” wide section, and 8 ounces of
polyfill in the front 3” wide section.
This alignment is designed to provide anechoic response to 35 Hz, with typical in-room response down to
28 Hz. Maximum SPL (driven with 100W) will be in excess of 105 dB SPL (at 1 meter) from 26 Hz and
up, which makes this systemwell-suited for most home audio applications. In addition, the system will
handle 100W continuously from 30 Hz and up, resulting in linear operation over 95% of the audio
bandwidth.
