Congratulations on the purchase of
your Roadside Companion. Your
new Roadside Companion has
been designed to provide you with
quick, reliable, and convenient
access to emergency services,
location, and communication
whenever and wherever you
need them most.
The Roadside Companion unit is designed for use in the United States. Please be aware that 911 emergency
services and cellular network services are not available in all areas and there is no guarantee that you will be able to
reach these services, or that your location can be determined with your Roadside Companion unit. If you are in an
area with insufficient cellular service, calls cannot be placed. Also, even if your local emergency service providers are
contacted, they may not respond properly. It is recommended that you always check to be sure that 911 services are
available in your local area. You can do so by contacting your local sheriff or police department. Please remember
while using your Roadside Companion unit, to keep it secured on the dash of your car using your sticky pad to
avoid distractions. CAUTION: To avoid equipment damage from high temperature, do not leave this product exposed
to direct sun inside a parked vehicle.
SAT MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTY EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALLY STATED ABOVE. IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUD-
ING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED TO
THE 12 MONTH WARRANTY PERIOD. ADDITIONAL LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY AND DAMAGES ARE CONTAINED
WITHIN THE CONTRACT FOR SERVICES. PLEASE REFER TO THAT DOCUMENT FOR A COMPLETE DISCLOSURE OF
ALL APPLICABLE LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS.

Calling a Local 911 Operator Directly
In the unlikely event that a disaster or other event prevents the Roadside Companion monitoring center from
responding to you after the red button has been pressed, your Roadside Companion unit also has the ability
to call a local 911 operator directly. (Please Note: Most 911 operators do not have the ability to determine
your location. When the operator responds via the unit, please give your address and any landmarks to the
operator before giving any other information. If your call somehow gets disconnected, the red “IN USE” light
will change from a solid to flashing red light and you will need to repeat the steps for calling the operator.)
The process for placing this direct 911 call is different from that of calling the
Roadside Companion
monitoring center, so please pay attention to the following detailed instructions:
•To call 911, press the gray “TEST” button. Both lights will come on and you will
hear a chirp. Then press the big red “CALL” button until you hear another chirp.
• The red “IN USE” light will begin blinking faster, indicating that the unit is searching for a signal, and
then the “IN USE” light will turn solid red, indicating that the 911 call is going through.
Note–It is not possible for you to terminate a 911 call without removing power from the Roadside Companion unit.
This is a safety feature to help insure a reliable connection to the emergency operator.
•
When the 911 operator terminates your call, your
Roadside Companion
unit will automatically be placed in
911 standby mode for 30 minutes to allow the 911 operator to call you back if further information is needed.
• To manually exit 911 standby mode, press the test button until the unit chirps. This places the
Roadside Companion unit back in test mode. Pressing the test button again for about two seconds
will place the unit back in normal operation (“IN USE” led blinks once every four seconds).

that you do not have an emergency, but are making your first-time setup call.

Plug the cigarette lighter adapter into your
Roadside Companion unit and then into your
cigarette lighter in your car. (Note: unit
requires a live power source to operate.)
Press and hold down the big red button until the
unit beeps, and then release the button. The red
“IN USE” light will flash on and off once every
second, indicating that the Roadside Companion
unit is searching for a signal. When the “IN USE”
light turns solid red, this indicates the call is
going through.
The unit will beep as soon as it is plugged into
your car. At this time, the unit is receiving your
current location. The “IN USE” light will flash
once every 4 seconds indicating the Roadside
Companion unit is operational.
Listen for a Roadside Companion
professional who will greet you by name.
Your Roadside Companion professional will determine your location and confirm this with you.
At the conclusion of your setup and test call, your Roadside Companion professional
will end the call.

with the Roadside Companion professional for 5-7 seconds. Your Roadside Companion professional
will quickly access your current location.
In the event of an emergency, your Roadside Companion professional will contact the local
emergency service provider that is best equipped to meet your needs, and stay on the line with you
and the service provider until you are satisfied that your needs are met.
Once your call is completed, your Roadside Companion professional will end the call for you.
Here’s How It Works!
Your Roadside Companion gives you quick and easy access to help in these and other emergency situations:
• Medical Emergencies • Fire Emergencies
• Police Emergencies • Roadside Assistance
Place the unit on the dash under the front windshield. When you plug in your Roadside Companion,
you will hear a short beep and the “IN USE” led will flash once every four seconds indicating that
the GPS unit is active. The Roadside Companion unit will silently calculate and store your current location.
This may take up to a few minutes.

Occasionally, the communication signal can be dropped. Unlike other devices, which require you to redial the number
by yourself, the Roadside Companion will automatically redial the monitoring center if the signal is dropped.
Please be assured that if this happens the Roadside Companion will make several attempts to re-dial until you are connected
How To Begin

power is going into the unit, you can begin tracking with RadioShack or make an emergency call
if needed.
If your unit was a gift, please call toll-free 1-888-905-6900 and a Roadside Companion representative
will assist you in activating your device.
