Radio Shack PA-110 User manual

Cat. No. 40-1416
Your Radio Shack PA-110 10-Inch 2-Way
Speaker is designed to deliver uniform
sound dispersion with excellent sound
quality. Your speaker’s protective corners
and carrying handle make it portable, so
you can use it anywhere you need it. It is
ideal for clubs, schools, churches, confer-
ence rooms, auditoriums, and other loca-
tions that require controlled sound
coverage.
The PA-110’s 10-inch woofer and piezo
horn tweeter make it suitable for voice or
music. Its 1/4-inch phone jack and two ter-
minalposts make it easy to connectto any
amplifier. You can connect two PA-110s
to a stereo amplifier for stereo sound.
SPEAKER PLACEMENT
An ideal speaker system covers the listen-
ing area with a consistent volume level
without reverberation (echo) or “dead”
spots (areas without sound).
To covera wide area, youmight need one
or more additional PA-110s. If you use
more than one PA-110, overlap the
speakers’ projection areas to prevent
dead spots.
CONNECTING THE PA-110
Note: Be sure your amplifier is turned off
before you make any wire connections.
Using the PA-110’s Terminal
Posts
Use color-coded, two-connector, 18-
gauge or larger speaker wire to connect
the PA-110 to an amplifier using the PA-
110’s terminal posts.

Note: You can find the proper speaker
wire at your local Radio Shack store.
Speaker wire has two individual conduc-
tors (wires) covered with insulation, and is
often marked to help you make the proper
connections. Insulation on one side of the
wire mi
g
ht have a rid
g
e or colored stripe.
Or, the two conductors mi
g
ht be different
colors (silver and copper, for example).
For the best bass response, be sure to
connect + on the speaker to + on the amp
and – on the speaker to – on the amp.
1. Separate the conductors at each end
for about 2 inches.
2. Strip away 1/2inch of insulation from
the end of each conductor.
3. Unscrew the PA-110’s positive (+)
terminal and insert a conductor’s
stripped end into the hole on the side
of the terminal post. If the wire is too
lar
g
e to insert into the hole, strip
away some conductor to reduce the
wire’s size.
4. Hand ti
g
hten the terminal to secure
the wire in place.
5. Connect the conductor’s other
stripped end to the amplifier’s posi-
tive (+) terminal.
6. Repeat Steps 3-5 to connect the PA-
110 to the amplifier’s ne
g
ative (–) ter-
minal.
Using the PA-110’s Phone Jack
Instead of usin
g
the speaker’s terminal
posts, you can use the speaker’s phone
jack to make the connection.
If your amplifier has an 8-ohm phonejack,
you can use speaker cable that has a
phone plu
g
on each end (such as Radio
Shack Cat. No. 42-2470) to connect the
PA-110’s 1/4-inch phone jack to the ampli-
fier’s phone jack.
Or, if your amplifier does not have an 8-
ohm phone jack, you can use speaker
wire that has a phone plu
g
on one end to
connect the PA-110’s 1/4-inch phone jack
to the amplifier’s terminals.

Connecting Two PA-110s
to a Monaural Amplifier
You can connect a second PA-110 to
cover a wider listening area. The PA-110
puts an 8-ohm load on the amplifier. If
you connect a second PA-110 in series,
the load increasesto 16 ohms.If you con-
necta second PA-110 inparallel, the load
decreases to 4 ohms. Check your ampli-
fier’s specifications to see which connec-
tion to use.
Connecting Two PA-110s to
a Stereo Amplifier
You can connect two PA-110s to a stereo
amplifier for stereo sound. Connect one
PA-110’s positive (+) and negative (–)
terminals to the amplifier’s corresponding
positive and negative left speaker termi-
nals.
Connect the other PA-110’s terminals to
the amplifier’s corresponding right speak-
er terminals.
