The RG-150 and RG-450 are a new generation of Trunking and
Conventional operation transceivers. These transceivers have a
number of improvements to enhance reliability and functionality. In

the trunking mode, these transceivers use a worldwide accepted
digital signaling trunking protocol known as SmarTrunk II?. This
protocol was engineered, developed and licensed in 1991 by Hoag
Electronics, Inc. The trunking technology used in these transceivers
have been proven and used around the world for more than 15 years.

This instruction manual describes the user operation of the RG-150
and RG-450 transceivers. Although this transceiver is quite easy to
use, please read this entire manual before beginning operation so
that you can take advantage of all the new advanced features.

Please observe the following precautions to prevent transceiver

Be careful when operating the transceiver for long continuous
periods of time. The body of the transceiver will become hot.
Avoid using or placing the transceiver in direct sunlight or in areas
with temperatures above +60℃.

Place the transceiver in a secure place to avoid inadvertent use
by children.

the items listed in the following table before discarding the packing
material. If any item is missing or has been damaged during shipment,
please file a claim with the carrier immediately.

PREPARATION

INSTALLING/REMOVING THE LI-ION BATTERY PACK
安装拆除电池组
1. To install the battery pack, fit the extensions at the bottom of the
battery into the slots at the bottom of the transceiver’s body Press
the top part of battery towards the transceiver until a !click!– sound
heard (Figure 1).
安装电池，先把电池底部装入对讲机的凹槽中，然后，向对讲机推挤电池
顶部，直到听见咔嗒声。
2. To remove the battery pack, Slide the battery latches on both sides
of the battery downwards. Pull the top part of battery away from the
transceiver’s bod and lift the battery outward from the transceiver
(Figure 2).
拆除电池，先抓住电池两边的卡扣向下拉，然后拔出电池的顶部，
再把电池从对讲机中取出。

LI-ION BATTERY PACK PRECAUTIONS
锂离子电池警告
1. Do not recharge the battery pack if it is already fully charged. Doing
so may cause the life of the battery pack to shorten or the battery
pack may be damaged.
充满的电池不要重新充电，以免缩短电池寿命或损坏电池。
2.After recharging the battery pack, disconnect it from the charger. If
the charger power is reset (turned ON after being turned OFF),
recharging will start again and the battery pack will become
overcharged.
当电池充完电后，请拔出电池。否则，如果充电器电源重新上电，
将会重新开始充电，使电池过充。
3. Do not use the transceiver while charging the battery pack. We
recommend you switch the transceiver power OFF while charging is
taking place.

4. Do not short the battery terminals or dispose of the battery by fire.
不要短路电池极片或把不用的电池丢到火中。
5. Never attempt to remove the casing of the battery pack.

CHARGING THE LI-ION BATTERY PACK
电池充电
The battery pack is not charged at the factory. Please charge the
battery before initial use. Initially charging the battery pack after
purchase or extended battery storage (greater than 2 months) will not
bring the battery pack to its normal operating capacity. After repeating
the charge/discharge cycle two or three times, the operating capacity
will increase to normal.
出厂的电池没有充电。请在使用之前把电池充电。在购买之后
或长期放置的电池（超过 2个月）没有充足的容量使用，应先
进行充电。反复充放电两到三次后，电池的使用容量才能达到
正常。

1. Make sure the battery pack contacts are in contact with the
charging terminals.
确认电池极片和充电器电极可靠连接。
2. Slide the battery pack or transceiver with a battery pack into the
desktop charger.
把电池或带电池的对讲机插入座充。
3. The charging LED lights RED and charging begins.
充电器的红色 LED 灯点亮，表明开始充电。
4. After charging about 3 hours, when the light turns to green, the
battery pack will be fully charged.
在充电大约 3小时后，LED 灯转为绿色，表明电池已经充满。
5. Remove the battery pack or transceiver from the charger. The
transceiver is now ready to use.
从充电器上拔掉电池，现在可以使用对讲机了。
INSTALLING/REMOVING THE ANTENNA
装卸天线
1. To install the antenna, screw the antenna into the connector on the top
of the transceiver by holding the antenna at its base and turning it
clockwise until secure (Figure 1).
安装天线，握住天线底部，插入对讲机的天线接口，顺时针旋转
天线，直到旋转到底。
2. To remove the antenna, turn the antenna counter-clockwise until you
can remove it (Figure 2). Never carry the transceiver by holding the
antenna.

1. Antenna
Flexible rubber antenna used for receiving and transmitting a signal.

2. Channel Selector/Trunking Group Selector Control
Rotate the control in either direction to select a channel in
conventional mode, or trunking Talk Group in the trunking mode.

3. Power Switch/Volume Control
Rotate clockwise to switch power ON and to increase the audio

squelch is open. This LED illuminates RED while in the transmit
mode.

overdial, etc. Three programmable functions keys are also available.

The loop on the top of transceiver is an attachment point for the
Hand Strap that is used for carrying the transceiver.

This side jack connects an external Speaker-Mic or earphone to the
transceiver. This jack is also used for transceiver PC software
dealer programming using a special cable.

PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTION KEYS

The transceiver has up to six programmable function keys that can be
used in both conventional and trunking modes. Three of the function
keys are located on the front panel of the transceiver, and two function
keys are located on the side panel of the transceiver. One additional
function key is located on the Remote Speaker Microphone (RSM) if
used. This allows for up to 12 different functions. Your radio dealer will
program these function keys to best suit your operating environment.
The following table can be used to record the function of the transceiver’
programmable keys:

The following paragraphs describe each possible programmable key
function. Each function is noted if it is used in the conventional mode or
the trunking mode.

KEYLOCK (conventional-trunking)
This function is used to lock out most of the keys on the transceiver.
Press the key for 1 second to activate the Keylock function. The
KEYLOCK icon will appear in the LCD display when the keys are locked.
This function is useful for disabling keys so that they are not inadvertently
pressed by mistake. Press this key again for 1 second to disable the
Keylock function.

This function is used to open the squelch circuit on the transceiver and
pass audio to the speaker. Press and hold this button to open the
squelch temporarily and monitor the operating frequency.

TALK AROUND (conventional)
When this function is active, the TA icon on the LCD display will
illuminate.
This function is used in the conventional mode to set the transmit
frequency of the transceiver equal to the receive frequency. This
function is used during repeater operations typically when out of range of
the repeater. This allows the user to ‘tal-around’ the repeater system

SCAN ON/OFF (conventional-trunking)
When this function is active, the SC icon on the LCD display will
illuminate.
This function is used in the conventional mode to enable or disable the
scanning of the programmed channels in the selected zone. While
scanning the channels, the LCD display will show the current scanned
channel. When activity appears on a channel, the transceiver will stop
the scan, and remain on the active channel for the duration of the Scan
Resume Timer. When the timer expires, the scanning will resume. If
the PTT Switch is pressed during scanning, the transceiver will transmit
on the last active channel.

In trunking operation, this function will allow the transceiver to scan all
programmed groups in the selected zone. Any call that matches one of
the programmed groups in the selected zone will be received. If the
PTT Switch is pressed during scanning, the transceiver will transmit on
the last active group.

ZONE SELECT (conventional-trunking)
This function allows the user to switch the currently selected Zone to a
new Zone. When the key is pressed, the next sequential Zone will be
displayed on the LCD display. If the Zone is programmed for trunking
operation, the TR icon will illuminate. After the new Zone is displayed
for two seconds, the transceiver will then display the conventional
channel alpha tag for conventional operation, or begin scanning channels
in the trunking mode.

As Zones are selected, a beep tone will be generated each time the key
is pressed. However, on Zone 1, a high beep tone is generated
signaling that the transceiver is currently on Zone 1. This is especially

useful for transceivers without an LCD display. The currently selected
Zone is saved in non-volatile memory so that if the transceiver is turned
OFF and then back ON, the transceiver will power up on the last selected
Zone.

This function is used to force the transceiver to switch immediately to
Channel 1 in the current zone. When this key is pressed, the Channel 1
alpha tag will be displayed. A high beep tone will also be generated
indicating Channel 1 is selected.

SCRAMBLER TOGGLE (conventional-trunking)
This function toggles the internal voice scrambler ON or OFF. The S
icon will be displayed on the LCD display when this function is turned ON.
Also, the display will indicate SECURE or CLEAR. For transceivers
without an LCD display, a high beep tone is generated indicating the
scrambler function is ON. A low beep tone is generated indicating the
scrambler function is OFF.

When this function is active, the LW icon on the LCD display will
illuminate. Pressing this key will activate the Lone Worker function.

EMERGENCY-MAN DOWN MODE (conventional-trunking)
Pressing the programmable key set for this function for one second will

SPEED DIAL LOCATION #1 (conventional-trunking)
Pressing the programmable key assigned to this function will
automatically generated the speed dial number located in Speed Dial

For conventional operation, this function will key the transmitter, and

SEND * CONNECT (trunking)
This function will allow the transceiver to send out the * Connect

SEND # DISCONNECT (trunking)
This function will allow the transceiver to send out the # Disconnect

CALLER ID SCROLLING (trunking)
This function will allow the transceiver to scroll thru the received Caller ID

TRUNKING TALK AROUND (trunking)

In trunking operation, this function allows the user to ‘tal-around’ th
trunking system by switching the transceiver to a conventional channel.
This function is used during trunking operations typically when out of

range of the trunking system. This feature is also used to monitor a

trunking system.

TRANSCEIVER MODES
This section introduces the basic modes available on this transceiver.
The transceiver has two modes of operation. These modes are the
Conventional Mode and the Trunking Mode.

CONVENTIONAL MODE
In this mode the desired operating frequency or channel may be
changed by rotating the Channel Selector Control on the top of the
transceiver to the desired memory channel that is programmed in the
transceiver. A beep tone is generated each time the control is rotated.
When channel 1 is selected, the transceiver generates a high
frequency beep tone. This is especially useful for transceivers
without an LCD display. The transceiver will display the Channel
Alpha Tag for the selected channel on the LCD display.
常规模式：此模式中，预先把想要的频率编入对讲机，然后可
通过旋转对讲机顶部的信道开关，调整为想要的操作频率或信道。

TRUNKING MODE
In this mode the transceiver is operating in the trunking mode. A Talk
Group may be selected by rotating the Trunking Talk Group Selector
Control on the top of the transceiver. Note that the TR Icon is turned
on in the LCD display to indicate trunking operation. A beep tone is
generated each time the control is rotated. When Group 1 is selected,
the transceiver generates a high frequency beep tone. The
transceiver will display the Group Alpha Tag for the selected group in
Radiotelephone Mode, or the scanning Channel Alpha Tags in
Dispatch Mode on the LCD display.

PROGRAMMABLE ZONES
Programmable Zones allow the transceiver to operate on both

conventional channels and trunking systems. In this manner, a Zone
is programmed for either conventional or trunking operation. A single
Zone consists of a group of up to 24 discrete channels. By properly
setting up the transceiver Zones, a variety of operational modes are
possible. Each Zone may be programmed to best suit the users
operational needs.

BASIC OPERATION

TURNING THE TRANSCEIVER ON/OFF

1. Turn the Power Switch clockwise to turn ON the transceiver. The
power on beep tone will be generated if enabled. The LCD
display will show the Power On Message if enabled. After the
Power On Message is displayed, then transceiver will display the
current Zone Number for two seconds. For conventional mode,
the transceiver will then display the Channel Alpha Tag. For
trunking mode, the transceiver will either display the scanning
Channel Alpha Tags or the Group Alpha Tag.

2. Please note that if the LCD display indicates PASSWORD when the
transceiver is turned on, then the user must enter a four digit
number followed by the # key to activate the transceiver. The
transceiver will not operate without the correct password. This
option is programmed by the dealer.

3. To turn OFF the transceiver, turn the Power Switch

SETTING THE AUDIO VOLUME

Turn the Volume Control clockwise to increase the audio output level
and counter-clockwise to decrease the audio output level. If no
receive signal is present, the Monitor key, if enabled in the
conventional mode, may be pressed to allow noise to pass to the
speaker. Then turn the Volume Control to set the desired audio

level.

CHANNEL SELECTION

1. To change channels, rotate the Channel Selector on the top panel of
the transceiver until the desired Channel Alpha Tag is displayed in
the LCD.

2. For transceivers that have no LCD display, please note that when
channel 1 is selected, the transceiver will generate a high beep tone

1. To change Zones, press the transceiver key is that is assigned as

2. For transceivers that have no LCD display, please note that when

pressing and holding programmable Monitor key. This is only
necessary in the Conventional Transceiver Mode.
