THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING REGIN!
Ever since Regin was established in 1947, we have developed and arketed products and syste s that create good
levels of indoor co fort. Today, we are an i portant player with one of the arket's broadest ranges for building
auto ation.
Our goal is to ake real estates in the world ore energy efficient. Regin is an international group and our products
sells in over 90 countries. Thanks to our global presence with strong local representation, we are well aware of the
require ents of the arket, as well as of how our products and syste s function under the ost variable conditions.
Every year, Regin akes substantial invest ents in the develop ent of our syste s and HVAC-products.

Introduction
1 Introduction
1.1 General
The Add:io series is intended for use in co bination with EXOclever and EXOco pact to expand the
nu ber of I/Os in a syste . Each unit expands the syste with 16 I/Os. An EXOclever controller can be
expanded with unli ited I/Os and an EXOco pact with up to 50 I/Os.
The units are progra able in EXOdesigner, the sa e environ ent used for all other EXO controllers.
1.2 Layout
All available Add:io odels have a si ilar design and layout. It is shown in Figure 1-1.

Introduction

1.4 Mounting
The controllers are designed to be ounted on a DIN-rail. They can be ounted in two ways, either on their
backside or stacked on the short side with a high packing density as a result. When stacked they fit s oothly
together thus requiring ini al space (see Figure 1-2 Stacked units)
Figure 1-2 Stacked units
1.5 Communication
The EFX-port is the co unication channel used between the Add:io and a aster controller (e.g.
EXOclever). EFX is RS485-based co unication.

2.1 In tallation recommendation
Follow these guidelines regarding shielded cables:
✓Only use shielded cables when the installation environ ent requires it.
✓No need for shielded cables between odules, if installed in close proxi ity
✓Connect shield to chassis ground at only one end of the cable.
For RS485 co unication, the ter inal Nis only required between syste s not sharing the sa e ground
potential. When used, it is not reco ended to connect it to the cable screen. Note that it ay be a single
wire, but ust be drawn together.
When the cable length is less than 30 in RS485, a ter inator is not required in nor al cases. The use of
ter inators will decrease signal integrity thus try without first. When used, atch the ter inator value to
the characteristic i pedance of the cable.
NNoottee!! For analogue input ignal , do not mix and u e one GND for everal input .
The technical earth terminal in the IO module power connector i not intended a a connection for
cable creen .
When connecting and easuring an external trans itter in an UI port this is done between ter inals UIx
and GNDx (where x is the channel nu ber between 1…16). Note that the intention is to use the
corresponding GND for the connected UI, especially when easuring sensitive signals or using DI pulse
(fast) ode.
Wiring exa ples can be found under each specific Add:io odel in the following chapters.
2.2 General tatu indicator
The Add:io has a general status indicator ounted at the iddle right front side, see Figure 1-1, which can be
inspected both when the unit is ounted on its back and side. This indicator changes colour depending on its
actual status as shown in Table 2-1.
Table 2-1 Status indication at the front
LED status Controller status
Green, solid Power on and communication is established
Red, solid Battery problem
Yellow, blink 2.5 Hz Identification (wink)
Orange, blink 1 Hz IO-board is not in contact with CPU-board (via EFX)
The status indications that are present on the side, see Figure 1-1, are only active when the universal inputs or
outputs are configured as DI and DO. The indicator colours are shown in Table 2-2.
Table 2-2 Status indications on the side

DI Green ON
DO Yellow ON

Deployment
NNoottee!! The value in Table 2-2 are default configuration . The LED can al o be configured for other
indication . For example, red for a DI that i u ed for an alarm.
2.3 Sy tem addre ing
The odule has to be given an address between 2-32 in order to be able to co unicate with it in a syste .
The address is set with the 8-bit DIP-switch arked with Module Address on the Add:io unit. The least
significant bit (LSB) is arked Bit 1 and the ost significant bit (MSB) is arked Bit 8.
A switch is activated by setting it to 1. In Figure 2-1 the address is set to 3.
