1. INTORDUCTION: SAFETY FIRST!
1.1. SAFETY MESSAGES
This manual contains safety messages. They point out potential hazards that could hurt you or others around you as well as damage
the equipment in use. These messages should therefore be read carefully and understood. They are highlighted by the safety alert
symbol as shown on the left:
The potential hazards are explained as to what could happen and how to avoid or reduce the chance for injury or damage.
Important information has been highlighted as well. To point out this information, a light bulb icon is used. It brings topics to your
attention that could, for example, facilitate maintenance or to clarify when it is advisable to consult your distributor/supplier.
1.2. GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
The Resqtec rescue equipment is designed to provide safe operation. All users should read and be thoroughly familiar with the operating
instructions and safety precautions stated in this manual. Operator safety depends on users being properly trained by the Authority having
jurisdiction and using the product for its intended purposes only. The following safety precautions must be observed at all times:
UNTRAINED USE OF RESQTEC EQUIPMENT AND ITS ACCESSORIES MAY RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS AND
POTENTIALLY HARMFUL SITUATIONS. DO NOT ATTEMPT!
•ResqtecrescueequipmentmustonlybeoperatedbypeopleauthorizedandqualiedbytheAuthorityhavingjurisdiction.
• Be aware that this is not an all-encompassing training manual. This manual is meant as a reference-guide for working with this
 specicpieceofequipment,andtheusershouldalreadybetrainedinandqualiedforusingrescueequipment.
• Suitable protective equipment must be worn as directed by the Authority having jurisdiction. At a minimum, this should include
gloves, helmet, eye protection and body protection — such as turnout gear.
• Prior to use, inspect all components for any signs of damage or fraying. Do not use damaged equipment.
• Stay alert. Do not operate the system when tired.
• Use only Resqtec authorized service parts.
• This equipment should only be used with accessories approved by Resqtec. Use of unauthorized accessories can result in
unpredictable and unreliable product operation and is therefore prohibited.

1.3. SAFETY INFORMATION
Before using the equipment and its related products and accessories, conduct an overall size-up of the intended use and safeguard against
potential hazards before installing the product. Read and understand this manual before using the equipment.
The WARNING and SAFETY labels on the product alert the user to special hazards inherent with its use. Should they
become damaged or unreadable, contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement.
BEFORE INSTALLING THE PRODUCT, BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
• Make sure no one on site is in danger or might get, when using Resqtec equipment. Be aware of your surroundings, the situation you
and the people around you are in, and what the consequences of the use of the Resqtec system are.
• NEVER, when in use, hold the product by any of its moving parts. Doing so can result in serious injury.
• NEVER, when in use, place your hands or any other body parts between the moving parts a (stationary) object. Doing so can result in
serious personal injury.
• When using a Resqtec product always ensure that the object is stable or stabilized by proper cribbing and/or shoring methods.
• NEVER pull a Resqtec product towards you by the hoses. Pick up the product by the handles instead, as intended.
• NEVER pull a hose to try to untangle it or to free a hose from an obstacle. Always direct your full attention to the problem; clear the
hose from the obstacle or untangle the hose before proceeding.
• The force has to be divided equally on both spreading jaws of the cylinder and on the foot in the middle.
• The tips of the spreading jaws have to be placed as deeply as possible in the crack. If necessary use the rubber hammer. Don’t use a
metal hammer. This could damage the spreading jaws and cylinder.
• To avoid malfunction, protect the coupling pieces and the hose for damage.

2.2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Thedooropenerhasbeendesignedandengineeredtoassistreghters,USAR-teamsandotherrescueworkerswiththevariousrescue
applicationstheyencounter.Wearecondentthatthedesignofthisproductwillenablethoseworkingintheseenvironmentstonotonly
negotiate the obstacles they encounter, but to perform their work more safely.
The hydraulic spreading cylinder can be used in many situations but is originally made to open doors. The spreading cylinder can also be used
during rescue operations in narrow spaces, collapsed buildings, etc.

4. GENERAL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1. INITIAL USE
When receiving your equipment check for any sign of damage to the box, and report it to your supplier as damage could have occurred during
shipping.Unpackinuprightpositionandchecktheproductfordamage.Tomakesuretheproductconformstoyourspecications,checkthe
product details on the label on the cylinder of the equipment.
CHECK THE EQUIPMENT FOR EXTERNAL DAMAGE. NOTIFY THE SUPPLIER IMMEDIATELY IF ANY DAMAGE IS FOUND.
DO NOT USE DAMAGED EQUIPMENT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!
4.2. PREPARATION BEFORE USE
4.3. OPERATION
• Press the cylinder between door and doorframe. Use a rubber hammer if necessary to slam the cylinder in a crack.
• Connect the hose to the dooropener and the handpump.
• Close the relief valve on the handpump for building up pressure.
• Step back from the door and use the hand pump. Because of the enormous power the door will open immediately in most cases.
The cylinder can be slammed into the crack by the rubber hammer. Only slam on the back of the tool at the foot jaw.
Avoid damage of the couplings and the hose.
The spreading cylinder, hand pump and hose are a closed system and can be used under water. The hose has to be
coupled on the cylinder and hand pump before going under water. After using dry the tool, clean and grease it.
DOORS ALWAYS OPEN IN DIRECTION OF THE HINGES.
• Check the spreading jaws and foot. Do not use if they exhibit major
damage and/or do not function as intended. • See chapter 6 for further information.

Check whether the pump relief valve is in its neutral/release pressure relief position.
Remove the dust caps from the couplers.
AligntheSTDcouplerandpushthemaleandfemalepartrmlyintoeachother.

Rotate the collar on the STD coupler until the cutout on the collar is in front of the ball.
Then push the collar towards the female connector.
The male connector will be ejected automatically.
Place the dust caps on both couplers.

Generally speaking it is most important is to keep your equipment clean. Clean equipment will not wear down as fast;
hence a longer service life can be achieved.
WEAR PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT DURING MAINTENANCE. ENSURE THAT THE USED HYDRAULIC OIL IS
COLLECTED AND DISPOSED OF IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER.
6. MAINTENANCE & STORAGE
6.1. MAINTENANCE AFTER USE
ACTION EXPLANATION ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. Check the product and hoses for any
damage.
• Visually check for damage.
• Check the unit for excessive oil leakage.
• Check the spreading jaws and foot for
excessive wear.
If structural damage to the product
is discovered, contact your Resqtec
distributor/supplier.
2. Clean and dry the product before storage.
• Preferably use dry, clean paper cloth.
• Mild soapy water can be used if
necessary.
Do NOT use any oil.
Dry thoroughly after using water.
3. Clean and dry the hoses used before
storage.
• Preferably use dry, clean paper cloth.

4. Check the couplers and dust caps for dirt.

6. Check the oil level (when cylinder is
retracted).
• Keep hand pump vertical.
• Keep the coupling part down.
• Remove the screw at the upper side.

If necessary, rell the oil.
Only use mineral oil or oil that comes
along with the opener.
7.
After heavy use, CRC SP 400 can be used
to ensure the spreading jaws and foot are
protected against corrosion.
• Only apply on the spreading jaws and
foot.
• Spray and clean with dry paper cloth.
• Clean any other parts that may have
attracted some coating in the process.
Read instructions carefully before
using CRC SP 400.
ATTENTION! IF YOU DECIDE THE SPREADING JAWS AND FOOT NEED TO BE COATED FOR ANTI-CORROSION PURPOSES,
ONLY USE CRC SP 400. OTHER PRODUCTS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE NEGATIVE EFFECTS ON THE LUBRICANT USED IN YOUR
EQUIPMENT. OTHER PRODUCTS ALSO DO NOT HAVE THE HIGH PROTECTION GRADE THAT CRC SP 400 PROVIDES.
6.2. REGULAR MAINTENANCE
It is advisable to carry out regular maintenance; depending on the use at least every 3 months or 25 operating hours.
When carrying out regular maintenance one should, in addition to the steps described in chapter 6.1, pay extra attention to the following:

major damage.
• Check for cracks in the spreading jaws
and foot.
Do not use the product if the jaws
exhibit major damage.

The standard Quick Action Couplers are lubricated by the hydraulic uid. Clean, good working couplers therefore need
not other means of lubrication.
6.2.3 INSPECTION ON HOSE ASSEMBLIES
DO NOT TAKE UNNECESSARY RISK BY UTILIZING FAULTY HOSES! WORN OR DAMAGED HOSES CAN CAUSE SERIOUS
INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE RESQTEC SYSTEM AND OTHER PROPERTY.
6.2.2 MAINTENANCE ON COUPLERS
1. Thoroughly check the hoses for any wear,
cuts or bruises.
• Visually check for damage.
• Check the hose assemblies for oil
leakage.
All but the smallest anomalies should
be subjected to further inspection by
an authorized person. When in doubt
ALWAYS replace the hose.
2. Connect all components and test all
functions.
• All products should make at least two
complete cycles.
1. Check and clean the couplers thoroughly.
• Preferably use dry, clean paper cloth.
• Mild soapy water can be used if
necessary.
• Verify smooth operation by connecting
and disconnecting al couplers at least
three times.
Do not use any additional means of
lubrication as some products might
have a negative effect on the
connector.

Many years of safe use is guaranteed if the product is properly cared for and maintained. To this end the product must be
inspected at least once a year. This must be carried out by a service technician trained by Resqtec who possesses the
necessary tools and testing equipment.
It is also possible for you, the user, to carry out maintenance yourself. In the context of your own safety and the product liability it is necessary
thatappropriatetrainingshouldbeundertakenrst.Yourdistributor/suppliercanadviseyouonthisand/orattendtotheannualmaintenanceon
a contract basis, if desired.
STRUCTURALLY DAMAGED AND/OR BROKEN EQUIPMENT MUST NEVER BE USED DURING RESCUE OPERATIONS. THIS
MAY RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY HARMFUL SITUATIONS. DO NOT ATTEMPT!
If structural damage and/or broken equipment or parts are discovered, immediately contact your distributor/supplier or the manufacturer.
DO NOT REPAIR ANY BROKEN EQUIPMENT AND/OR PARTS. ALWAYS CONTACT YOUR DISTRIBUTOR/SUPPLIER OR THE
MANUFACTURER.
Repairing equipment and/or parts causes your warranty to expire. Always contact your distributor/supplier or the manufacturer when broken
partsand/orequipmentarediscovered.Brokenequipmentand/orpartscanthenbesenttocertiedservicecenters.
6.4. RECOMMENDED STORAGE
The following storage recommendations apply:
• If needed, apply an anti-corrosion layer on the spreading jaws and foot as described in chapter 6.1
• Store out of direct sunlight
• Store the equipment in a dry, well-ventilated area:
6.5. DECOMISSIONING & RECYCLING
The various parts can be re-used at the end of their service life. Collect the hydraulic oil and dispose of it separately. Refer to the MSDS that was
supplied with your product and/or follow local regulations on disposal.
The product consists of steel, aluminum, neoprene (seals) and plastic. The product does not contain any pressurized components. Consult your
supplier for further information on recycling.

Recommended storage temperature range 10˚C–30˚C/50˚F–86˚F

7. WARRANTY
Resqtec offers two years warranty upon the purchase of this product. For extending your warranty or information about the Resqtec service
program, please contact your Resqtec distributor/supplier.
WARRANTY IS ONLY VALID IF THE REGULATIONS AND RESTRICTIONS, AS DESCRIBED IN THE USER MANUAL
APPLICABLE ON THE USED PRODUCT(S), ARE UNDERSTOOD AND FOLLOWED, AND IF THE MAINTENANCE AS ADVISED
IN THE USER MANUAL IS DONE BY AN AUTHORIZED RESQTEC TECHNICIAN. DISREGARDING ANY OF THE
APPLICABLE REGULATIONS AND RESTRICTIONS, AS DESCRIBED IN THE USER MANUAL APPLICABLE ON THE USED
PRODUCT(S), WILL CAUSE THE WARRANTY TO VOID.
