Description of the
PLT®Solas
By opening the closing valve, air ows from the air cylinder through the
Reduction Valve and into the chamber of the Base Unit. The pressure in this
chamber is 75 bars (1088 psi).
Due to heavy recoil, it is important that the PLT®Solas is well supported
during operation. The rear end of the PLT®Solas Launching Unit has a
Damper Pad that must be placed against a solid point that can withstands
this force. See page 9.
The air cylinder must be lled to a minimum of 207 bar (3000 psi) for a
minimum of 4 launches. With 300 bar (4350 psi) the unit can perform a
minimum of 6 launches.
The air cylinder rells from a 207/300 bar air compressor for breathing air
systems. If you are using a 207-bar compressor, the Yoke Adaptor, Art. No.
1308 is necessary to use.

Using the PLT®Solas
Always use hearing protection when operating the PLT®Solas
1. Screw the launching tube onto the launching unit (Fig. 1)
2. Open the Closing Valve for 5–10 seconds until the chamber is full (Fig. 2)
CLOSE THE VALVE IMMIDIATELY WITHOUT USING EXCESSIVE FORCE.
3. Hold onto the end plug and pull out the safety line through the center-hole
of the end plug of the projectile, (Fig.3), approx. 2,5 m (2yd).
4. Hold the line thrower with the launching tube pointing upwards. Insert the
projectile into the Launching Tube with the line in the slot of the end plug.
(Fig. 4)
5. Fasten the end of the line to the line thrower or a secured point. (Fig. 5)
6. Aim over the target while making sure that the PLT®Solas is supported
against something solid by using the Damper Pad on the PLT®Solas Air
Cylinder Cover. For maximum distance hold elevation between 25° to 35°.
7. Push and hold the safety knob (Fig. 6) and aim over the target. Pull the
trigger with a rm and rapid movement (Fig. 6). The projectile will now be
launched.
PLEASE ALSO STUDY THE USB STICK AND USER MANUAL LABEL ON
THE PLT®SOLAS AIR CYLINDER COVER. NEVER FIRE THE PROJECTILE
WITHOUT THE END PLUG.

Maintenance Procedure of
PLT®Solas Launching Unit
IMO SOLAS Requirement
To comply with SOLAS 74/96 requirements for Line Throwing Appliances, the
PLT®Solas set must consist of:
One PLT® Solas Launching Unit, Art. No. 2405/2406
One PLT®Solas Launching Tube, Art. No. 2601
Four PLT®Solas Projectiles, Art. No. 2403
Recommended Maintenance
Monthly Check (Fig. 1)
Ensure that the pressure of the Air Cylinder is minimum 207 bar (3000 psi),
and maximum 300 bar (4350 psi). Store the unit at a dry and safe place.
Perform a visual inspection to ensure that everything stays intact. Make sure
that the Closing Valve always is closed, never leave compressed air in the
chamber of the Launching Unit.
Annual Check
Bring the unit outdoors and fill the chamber with compressed air. To reduce
the noise, you can screw the Launching Tube on the Launching Unit, but
without any projectile. Aim away from any person and release the
compressed air by pulling the trigger. Please use hearing protection.
Remember to refill the air cylinder afterwards.
Actions is Required
If any issues arise during testing, such as leakage or damage to the unit,
please contact Restech Norway AS.

Relling the PLT®Air Cylinder
Depending on national rules, the Air Cylinder can be
lled with 207 bars (3000 psi) or 300 bar (4350 psi)
compressed air. A minimum of 207 bar (3000 psi)
contains enough air for 4 max. launches. When lled
to 300 bar (4350 psi), it contains enough air for 6 max.
launches.
For lling to 300 bar (4350 psi), connect the PLT®Air
Cylinder to a standard scuba diving (breathing air)
compressor with standard 5/8” threads according to DIN
477.
For lling to 207 bar (3000 psi), normally a yoke adaptor
ANSI -CGAV1/1989 is used. A tting for this standard is
available from Restech Norway AS (Art. No. 1308.)
Filling the Air Cylinder is dictated by national rules, and
should be carried out by skilled personnel. After filling,
make sure that the Closing Valve is closed, also when it
is attached to the Launching Unit. Do not use excessive
force when closing the valve.
NEVER FILL OXYGEN INTO THE AIR
CYLINDER. CLEAN AND DRY AIR ONLY
Maintenance Procedure of the
PLT®Air Cylinder
In general, the PLT®Air Cylinder and Closing Valve are maintenance free.
However, if leakage is detected, please contact the nearest service station or
Restech Norway AS.
Depending on national rules the Air Cylinder must be periodically inspected
and tested. If national rules are not applicable, the Air Cylinder must be
certied every 5th year by licensed authorities, the nearest service station, or
Restech Norway AS.
If the Air Cylinder needs to be certied or tested, or shows signs of damage or
corrosion, please contact the nearest service station or Restech Norway AS.
