Operating Instructions
۞This product should be installed by a qualified electrician
These instructions should be read in conjunction with the enclosed S430 Room Thermostat instruction
sheet. Keys referred to in these instructions can befound in the S430 sheet, where they are referred to
from left to right as “Menu key”, ‘+’ key, ‘-‘ key and ON/OFF key.
Wiring details: These are printed on the back of thermostat casing. The floor sensor must befirmly
connected to terminals 6 & 7. The 230V electrical supply connects to terminals 1 (Live) & 5 (Neutral).
The heating mat(s) connects to terminals 2 (Live) & 4 ( Neutral). Earth connections are made with the
back box.
When the thermostat is powered for thefirst time you may see “OFF” on the screen. Hold down the
ON/OFF key and the screen will fill with numbers.
1) Setting the time and day of the week
With the thermostat nowswitched on press the menu key once. This will start the menu
characters to flash e.g. F0. The menu can be changed to F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 or F6 by pressing
the “+” and or “-“ keys.F0 is the menu for setting the time. Press the ON/OFF button and the
day of the week will flash e.g. for Thursday it should be number 4. Use the “+” or “-“ buttonsto
adjust to the correct day of the week.
Now press the ON/OFF key and the hours will flash. Pres the “+” or “-“ keyto adjust to correct
hour. Press the ON/OFF key again and the minutes will flash. Press the “+” or “-“ keyto adjust
to the correct minutes. Now press the ON/OFF key again to accept the setting and finally press
the Menu key to return to the main screen.
The thermostat has a battery back up. If the electrical supply to the thermostat is turned off the
time and date settings will be saved for the next time the thermostat is switched on.
2) Mode 0 setting (default setting as supplied from the factory)
The RFTECH-W16 has three different modes but its default setting as suppliedfrom the
factory is Mode 0. Mode 0 allows the thermostat to function as a combined floor and air
temperature controller. To make changes to the mode press the Menu key and the menu
characters will flash. Adjust to menu F5 with the “+” or “-“ keys. Press the ON/OFF key and the
Mode Setting will flash e.g 0, 1 or 2.
Select the mode required by pressing the “+” or “-“ keys. Now press the ON/OFF key again to
accept the setting and finally press the Menu key to return to the main screen.
Mode 1 - Air sensing only
Mode 2 - Floor sensing only
Mode 0 - Combined air and floor
When the thermostat is in the combinedfloor & air setting (Mode 0) the screen will display the
room temperature. This is the large number to the right of the screen.
Mode 2 setting (Floor only)
When the thermostat is in the floor only setting (F Mode) the screen will display the floor
temperature. Again this is the large number to the right of the screen.

3) Setting the high temperature protective setting
The default setting is 50ºC and we recommend this is set at 40ºC. Press the menu key once.
This will start the menu characters toflash e.g. F0. Use the “+” or “-“ keys to adjust to F2.
Now press the ON/OFF key and the temperature will flash. Press the “+” or “-“ key to adjust
the temperature to 40ºC.
Press the ON/OFF key again to accept the setting and finally press the Menu key to return to
the main screen.
4) Setting the four comfort levels - TIME & TEMPERATURE
The enclosed S430 instruction sheet shows the default factory settings for each comfort lev el.
25ºC when you require heat for comfort and 10ºC when you are out of the building or in bed.
The thermostat does not turn off during each 24 hour day, so when you require the most
economical operation e.g when the building is not occupied or you are in bed, or a higher level
when you actually need heat, the temperature setting can be adjusted to any levelyou want.
Comfort level settings are ONLY made in the AUTO setting mode. To change between
AUTO and MANUAL setting press on the “-“ key for up to 20 seconds. Press the ON/OFFkey
to accept. In AUTO setting the time period symbol will appear on the screen e.g. P1, P2, P3 or
P4.
Examples
Comfort Level No. 1 - Wake - P1
Comfort Level No. 2 - Leave - P2
Comfort Level No. 3 - Return - P3
Comfort Level No. 4 - Sleep - P4
To make changes press the Menu key and the menu characters will f lash. Adjust to menu F1
with the “+” or “-“ keys. Press the ON/OFF key to accept and the days of the week flash e.g 1 2
3 4 5.
Press the ON/OFF key and the time period P1 will flash. Press the ON/OFF key to accept and
the time will flash. Press the “+” or “-“ key to adjust the time. This is the time you want the
heating to operate in the morning. Press the ON/OFF key to accept and the temperature will
flash. Press the “+” or “-“ key to adjust the temperatureto say 25ºC. Press the ON/OFF key to
accept and the next time period will flash e.g. P2.
Press the ON/OFF key to accept and the time will flash. This is the time you want to leaveyour
property. Press the “+” or “-“ key to adjust the time. Press the ON/OFF key to accept and the
temperature will flash. This setting can be as low asyou want, say 10ºC. Repeat the above for
all time periods and end by pressing the ON/OFF key then press the menu key to returnto the
main screen
5) Manual Setting
This allows you to over-ride the temperature setting in any period level at any time. For
example,you arrive home early and want the heat on. Manual changes can only be made in
the MANUAL setting. To change between AUTO and MANUAL setting press on the “-“ key for
up to 20 seconds. Press the ON/OFF key to accept.
Assumeyou have set the temperature for this Level at 15ºC and the room temperature reading
to the right of the screen is 18ºC. The heating will not be energised in this setting.
Press the “+” or “-“ key to adjust the temperature. The temperature will start to flash when you
press the key. Use the “+” or “-“ keyto set a new temperature above 18ºC, as in this example.
Lets say 22ºC, and then press the ON/OFF key and the thermostat will re-set and the heating
symbol will appear at the top of the screen. The thermostat will automatically return to your
original time period settings when it reaches the next comfort level (time period) setting.
To check thefloor temperature in Mode 0 press the ON/OFF key.
