Propanesystem
Propaneisveryflammable,heavierthanairandsmellslikerotteneggs.Itisusedforheating,
cookingandrefrigerationinamotorhome.Foryoursafety,apropaneleakdetectingdeviceis
installedineachmotorhomesomewherenearthekitchen‐justabovethefloor.Agreen
blinkinglightshowsproperfunction.Anamber(orange)blinkinglightindicatesanerrorwith
thedetectorandyoushouldhaveitcheckedbeforeyoustopforthenight!Aredblinkinglight
andloudhighpitchbeepindicatesdangerouspropanelevelsandyoushouldproceed
immediatelywiththefollowingsteps:
1. Turnoffanyopenflames–doNOTtouchelectricalswitches(potentialsparks!)
2. Exitthevehicleimmediatelyandclosethemainvalveonthepropanetank
3. Waitseveralminutesbeforere‐enteringthevehicle
4. Openwindowsandtheentrydoorandallowthepropanetodissipatefully
5. Resetthepropanealarmbypushingthemutebutton
6. Closethestoveandovenburnervalves;turnoffthewaterheater;turnoffthefurnace
andrefrigerator

detectorandyoushouldhaveitcheckedbeforeyoustopforthe

Smoke/Fire
Everymotorhomeisequippedwithafireextinguisherneartheentry
door.Italsohasasmokealarmmountedtotheceiling,usuallyinthe
kitchenarea.Thealarmsoundsoffaveryshrillbeepifitdetects
smoke–indicatingapotentialfire.Sometimes,cookingcertainfoods
willalsomakethealarmtosoundoff–pleasemakesureyouonly
cookwithanopenwindowandtherangehoodfanrunning.
Ifthealarmsounds,proceedwiththefollowingstepsimmediately:
1. Turnoffanypropaneappliancelikethecooktopandfurnace
2. Ifthereareanyvisibleflames,usethefireextinguisherandextinguishanyopenflames
3. Ifthefirecannotbeextinguished,exitthevehicleimmediately.Turnoffthebattery
disconnectswitchandclosethemainvalveonthepropanetank
4. Gethelp–call911!
5. Onceeverybodyissafeandthefirehasbeenextinguished,callouremergencynumberon

MotorHomeEquipment
Introduction
Weprovidethismanualasaguideanditdescribestheoperationofthemotorhomeequipment
ingeneral.Duetodifferencesbetweensimilarequipmentandchangesfromyeartoyear,we
cannotpreciselydescribeeverymotorhomeindividually,butthesystemsandoperationare
verysimilarifnotthesame.Pleasereadthefollowinginformationthoroughly.Itwillhelpyouto
avoidmanyproblems.
Keysanddoors
Thereisonlyonesetofkeysforthemotorhome.Splittingupkeysmaypreventyoufrom
lockingyourselfoutofthevehicle–onepersonkeepstheignitionkeyandsomeoneelsekeeps
allothers.
Therearemultiplekeysfordifferentlocks:
‐EntryDoorlatch(mostkeyshavearoundplasticheadforthe
entrydoor)
‐Entrydoordeadbolt(mostkeyshavearectangularheadforthe
deadbolt)
‐Exteriorcompartmentdoors(mostkeyshavearoundheadand

Toopenanydoor,pleasepushinthedoorwhileunlockingorunlatching

Makesuretheentrydooriseitherhookedinorclosedatalltimes.
Electricalsystem
Themotorhomehastwodifferentelectricalsystems:
12VoltDirectCurrent(auxiliarybatteries)
Mostoftheelectricalequipmentofamotorhomeworkswith12VDC:interiorlights,fans,
monitorpanel,propanedetector,waterpump,furnace(heater)andslide‐out(ifequipped).The
electroniccontrolsforthewaterheater,roofairconditionerandrefrigeratoralsorequire
12VDC.Thepowercomesfrombatteriesthatareseparatefromtheenginebattery.
Theenginebatteryrunscarrelatedfunctions,whiletheauxiliarybatteriesruns
motorhomerelatedfunctions.
Theauxiliarybatterieswillberechargedintwoways:
‐byrunningthegeneratororbeingpluggedintoanexternalpowersource
‐bytheenginealternatorwhilethecarengineisrunning
Thepowerconverterischargingtheauxiliarybatterywhilehavingelectricalpowerfromthe
campgroundandconverts120VACto12VDC.Thefastestwaytochargethebatteryisdriving.
Ifyouarenotdrivingandwithoutelectricityfromthecampgroundforafew

Somelargerappliances,liketheairconditioner,themicrowave/convectionoven,someTV/DVDs
andallregularwalloutletsrequire120VAC.Ifyouconnectthebigblackpowercabletothe
campgroundorhavethegeneratorrunning,youareabletouse
theseappliances.Itispossiblethattheplugwillnotfitandyou
willneedtousetheadapterprovided.Makesurethebreakerat
thepowersourceonthecampgroundis“ON”.
GroundFaultInterrupter
TheGFI(GroundFaultInterrupter)isaspecialcircuitbreakerfor
120VACwalloutlets.Itispartofanelectricaloutletinthe
bathroomorkitchenarea.Iftoomuchcurrentorafaulty
electricalapplianceisused,theRESETbuttonpopsoutandthe
powerisinterrupted.Shouldthisoccur,firstunplugalldevicesandthenresettheGFIby
pushingtheRESETbuttonbackin.Itwillonlyresetifyouhave120VACsupply.
Fusesandcircuitbreakers
Eachmotorhomehasapowercenter(blackorbrownplasticormetal
cover)whichisnormallylocatedsomewhereinthelivingarea.Itcontains
aseriesoffuses(standard12VDCautomotivefuses)and120VACcircuit
breakers.Shouldanyelectricalappliancefailtooperate,checkthefuses
andcircuitbreakersfirst.Adefectiveautomotivefusewillhavethethin
wireinsidemelted.
Certainmotorhomeshaveanelectricalboxinsideastoragecompartmentaccessibleonthe
outsideofthevehicle.Thesearepush‐button12VDCcircuitbreakers.Makesureallthesecircuit
breakersarepushedincompletely.

Generator
Mostmotorhomeshaveanon‐boardgenerator.It’susedtoprovide120VACpowerifyoudo
nothavecampgroundpower.Itislocatedinanoutsidecompartment.
Thegeneratorrunsongasolinefromthevehiclefueltank.Thefueltankmustbeatleast¼full
inorderforthegeneratortooperate.Themotoroillevelofthegeneratorhastobeinspected
everyeight(8)hoursofoperationtopreventanydamage!
Beforestartingthegeneratorensure
thatallelectricalappliances
(especiallytheroofA/C)areturned
off.Attemptingtostartthegenerator
whentheroofA/Cis“ON”may
overloadthegeneratorandcausethecircuitbreaker
atthegeneratororinthepowercentertotrip.
Touse120VACpowerfromthegenerator,makesure
thepowercordispluggedintoitsoutlet,locatedin
theelectricalcompartmentontheoutsideofthe
vehicle,beforestartingthegenerator.
Thegeneratorcanbestartedfromtheinsideofthe
motorhomeorwiththeswitchatthegenerator
itself.Letitrun1to2minutesbeforeturningonanyelectricalappliances.
Ifthegeneratorisrunning,thepowercordpluggedinandthemaincircuitbreakerinthepower
centerisON,butthereisnopower–checkthecircuitbreakeronthegeneratoritself.
Resetthebreakeriftripped.
ON=breakerpointingtowardstheoutsideofthevehicleortotheleftoncertainmodels.
NEVERrunthegeneratorformorethanafewmomentswiththeservicedoorremoved!

furnacewiththethermostat.Abuilt‐intimedelaykeepsthefanrunlongerthanthereisactual
warmair.Duetoairflowconditions,thefurnaceshouldnotbeusedwhiledriving.
Thefurnacerunsonpropaneforheatandtheblowerofthefurnacerunsofftheauxiliary
battery.
Duringanyextendedstaywithoutcampgroundpowersupply,thefurnacewilldrain
themotorhomebatterieswithinjustonenightatlowtemperatures.
Tooperatethefurnace,ensuretohaveenoughpropaneandcampgroundpoweror
fullychargedbatteries.
