Roland RG-7 User manual

Operating Manual for added functions in RG-7
■
Play back file that’s been
saved on USB memory device.
You can connect USB memory to the Ext Memory port and
play back audio files that’s been saved on the memory
device.
About Audio Files
Audio files in the following format can be played back:
• “.WAV” extension
• 16-bit linear
• Sampling rate of “44.1 kHz”
• Stereo
You cannot use the following functions in playing back audio
files.
• Displaying notations
• Copying “Favorites”
• Changing tempos
• Track Mute
• Recording

Also possible to transpose the
playback of a music CD or an
audio file in USB memory
You can also transpose the playback of a commercially
available music CD or an audio file as described in
“Changing the Key of the Song Being Played (Playback
Transpose)” (p. 38).
The range of transposition is as follows.
Value: -6–0– +5
(in semitones).

Enjoying Karaoke with
Commercial CDs (Center Cancel)
You can minimize the vocal portions of commercial audio
CDs or audio files and sing these parts yourself.
This is a handy way to enjoy karaoke and practice your
singing with your favorite audio CDs or audio files.
* You may find that using Center Cancel reduces the tone
quality of some songs.
1.
Place the CD you want to play back in the CD
drive.
2.
Select the song you want to play.
3.
Press the [Function] (Exit) button so the indicator
is lit.
4.
Press the [Song] (Select -) button or [ ] (Select
+) button to display the CD/AUDIO screen.

5.
Press the [Song] (Select -) button or [ ] (Select
+) button to get the value for “Center Cancel” to
flash.

6.
Press the [ ] (Value -) button or [ ] (Value
+) button to switch Center Cancel on or off.
7.
When you have finished making the settings,
press the [Function] (Exit) button so the indicator
goes out.
8.
Press the [ ] button.
The song on the CD plays back.
When the song is played, sounds including the melody
and vocals are temporarily minimized.
* With some songs, the vocals may not be eliminated completely.
Center Cancel is cancelled (switched off) when you
switch to a different song.
9.
Press the [ ] button once more to stop
playback of the song.

Center Cancel is disabled.

Additional function for remote's
buttons
In “Changing the Functions of the Remote Control’s Buttons”
(p. 90), the following setting is now available for assignment
to the [FUNC 1] button or [FUNC 2] button.

Preventing Changes to the
Current Settings (Panel Lock)
When “Panel Lock” is activated, all buttons will no longer
function.
Thus, even if you press a button by mistake, the settings
remain unchanged.
Making the Setting
1.
Set the desired tones and other settings.
2.
Hold down the [Function] (Exit) button and press
the [Moving Key] (Enter) button.
This activates Panel Lock.
* Pressing buttons during playback or recording of a song stops
the playback or recording.
You can perform by playing the keys.
You can adjust the volume with the [Volume] knob and
adjust the tone of the sounds with the [Brilliance] knob.
The following screen appears when Panel Lock is in
force.

Cancelling the Setting
1.
To cancel Panel Lock, hold down the [Function]
(Exit) button again and press the [Moving Key]
(Enter) button.

Reducing the Volume of a
Specific Part (Guide)
You can also set a specific part to play at a lower volume.
This allows you to use the sound of that part as a “guide” for
your own performance.
1.
Access the PLAY screen.
For details on how to access the PLAY screen,
refer to “Muting a Specific Part (Minus One)” (p.
96).
2.
Set the Minus One setting to Guide.
Setting the Part To Be Guide Part
1.
You can specify the guide part in the same way as
described in “Specifying the Part to be Muted” (p.
97). The following screen will appear.

Change in the Factory Reset
procedure
There has been a change in the procedure for “Restoring the
Factory Settings (Factory Reset)” (p. 75). When the factory
reset is completed, the following screen will appear instead
of returning to the previous screen. When this screen
appears, switch the power off, then turn it back on again.

Additional VIMA function
You can use a VIMA CD-ROM to select and play
recommended tones or view a slide show.
What is VIMA?
Presented by Roland, VIMA represents an entirely new
concept in keyboards.
It lets you connect LCD televisions, video cameras, portable
audio players, and other devices, enabling you to enjoy
music and video whether or not you have experience in
performing music.
Switching VIMA CD-ROM
Recommended Tones
Songs on VIMA CD-ROMs (VIMA TUNES) are programmed
with “recommended tones” suitable for each song.
When you select a song, the recommended tones are
assigned to the RG-7’s Tone buttons, and those Tone buttons
then flash.
When you press a flashing Tone button, the recommended
tone is then selected, enabling you to perform the selected
song using a tone matched to that song as it plays back.
You can set the RG-7 so that the recommended tones are
automatically assigned (On) or not assigned (Off).

You can use the Memory Backup function to store these
settings to the RG-7.
1.
Press the [Function] (Exit) button, getting its
indicator to light.
2.
Press the [Song] (Select -) button or [ ] (Select
+) button to display the MISC screen.

Press the [Song] (Select -) button or [ ] (Select
+) button to get the value for “Recommended
Tone” to flash.

4.
Press the [ ] (Value -) button or [ ] (Value
+) button to switch the recommended tone setting
on or off.
This is set to “On” at the factory.
5.
Press the [Function] (Exit) button so the indicator
goes out.
View a slide show when using a VIMA
CD-ROM.
1.
Place the VIMA CD-ROM (VIMA TUNES) in the
CD drive.
“CD” is select for the song genre automatically.
2.
Press the [ ] (Value -) button or [ ] (Value
+) button to select the song you want to play back.
3.
Pressing the remote control’s [DISPLAY] button,
make the settings for the slide show to appear in
the external display or television.
4.
Press the [ ] (Value -) button to play back the
song.
The slide show with images suitable for the song is
shown on the connected external display or television
screen.

The recommended tones are not used, and
only the RG-7’s internal tones can be select-
ed.
