1.Introduction
Thank you for purchasing our Stereo FM Transmitter YS-1010S. For the best performance and
the longest product life, please read this manual carefully before using the apparatus.
■ Getting Started
1.Please use the apparatus in accordance with the instructions given in this manual.
2.This module is fitted with feeble electric waves. Adjust the output level to the condition of
the surroundings when operating the apparatus. (Please use the apparatus within the limits of
Article 6, paragraph 2, of the Enforcement Regulation of Radio Law.)
3.Verify the unused frequency (depends on the area) before setting up a frequency for this
transmitter. (Adjacent frequencies may cause interference. Choose a frequency which is most
distant from the frequencies already used in the area.)
4.Avoid places that receive direct sunlight or get a high temperature or high humidity, when
installing the transmitter. Do not expose the apparatus to rain or moisture when installed
outdoors.
5.Do not give abnormal voltage over the permissible range when you input signals.
6.In case you open the covers of the transmitter, disconnect the power adaptor first, and be
careful not to touch and damage the parts inside the transmitter during the manipulation.
■ Key features
● Small-sized and high spec in design, and by virtue of its low power consumption, the
apparatus can be used as a mobile transmitter as well as a fixed one.
● The apparatus is available for stereophonic and monaural transmissions that
correspond to all the FM frequencies used in Japan.
● Audio input to left and right can be set separately.
● Wide range adjustment of the output level is available.
● Synchronous transmission under cooperation with other transmitters is available.
● The apparatus operates regardless of being outdoors or indoors by virtue of its
acceptability of either AC or DC power supply.
● Composite input accepts closed capture input and audio input from external sources
(such as audio codec or PC audio).
● Transmission of high quality sound is made available by introducing an 8th-order

3
elliptic filter for audio input, and a10th-order linear phase filter for composite output.

Note.Transmission using an AC adaptor will produce a humming noise. For the best
performance of the transmitter, it is recommended that you use a stabilized DC
power source (+12V) or batteries (+12V〜+13.8V).

3.Front Panel
①Analog input Left
Connect Analog input Left (2Vp-p). Adjust the volume according to the input level. Modulation
factor increases as you turn the volume key clockwise. Adjustable within the range of 0.5Vp-p
〜6Vp-p, approximately.
Preset at input level of 2Vp-p and ±75KHz deviations at the time of shipment.
②Analog input Right
Connect Analog input Right (2Vp-p). Adjust the volume according to the input level.
Modulation factor increases as you turn the volume key clockwise. Adjustable within the range
of 0.5Vp-p〜6Vp-p, approximately.
Preset at input level of 2Vp-p and ±75KHz deviations at the time of shipment.
③Composite input
For input from external sources using stereocodic signals and closed-caption signals. Input
2Vp-p for stereocodic signal, and the transmitter outputs ±75KHz deviations. Input 0.2Vp-p for
closed caption signal, and the transmitter outputs ±7.5KHz deviations.
④Internal/external input changeover switch
Changeover switch for analog input and composite input. Signals coming from Analog L and R
are modulated before transmission when the switch is on the INT side.
⑤PLL Lock indicator
The red LED will be on when the transmission is in a normal status of operation.

5
⑥Stereophonic transmission indicator
The red LED will be on during stereophonic transmission.
⑦Stereophonic/monaural changeover
Changeover switch for stereophonic and monaural transmission. For monaural transmission,
connect either the input L or R, or reduce the input level to half (-6dB) if you connect to both
input L and input R.
⑧Power
The green LED lights up and the transmitter starts to operate when the power is turned on.
4.Rear Panel
① DC input
A terminal for supplying power from an external source. Connect the AC adaptor contained in
the accessory kit. If you use other power supplies, verify the input voltage range (DC11〜
DC18V) and the polarity. Please choose a power source with the least noise. Use a DC jack of
5.5mm (-) external diameter and 2.1mm (+) internal diameter for connection.
② DC output
Output voltage will be lower by 1V (approx.) than the input voltage supplied by DC input.
The maximum output current is 300mA. Built-in devices are a reversal protection diode, a
current limiting fuse, and a surge protection (33V) device.

6
③ SYN.CLK control connector
The control for synchronizing two or more transmitters. This function will not be used when a
single apparatus operates. Please consult ‘How to connect for the synchronous control’ for
specific details.
④ FREQUENCY setting switch
Set up a transmission frequency (3-digits), by a step of 0.1MHz and within the range of 76.0〜
90.0MHz
⑤ RF LEVEL adjustment
Adjust the transmitter’s output level. It increases up to 30dB as you turn the adjustor clockwise.
⑥ RF OUT connector
The output connector (BNC receptacle) of the transmitter. External equipment such as an
antenna, a booster and a leaky coaxial cable can be connected. Use a coaxial cable (50Ωor
75Ω) for connection.

7
5.How to Connect
1) Connect the AC adaptor contained in the accessory kit to DC IN (①) of the main body.
2) Set the antenna attached to the antenna stand and connect a coaxial cable to the RF OUT (⑥)
of the main body.
3) Turn upward the power switch on the front panel. Power LED lights up and the FM transmitter
starts to operate.
Use a DC plug specified below or a PCAB-02 cable (option), when supplying power to external
equipments from this transmitter.
DC plug
Attention!
Check the polarity (+,-) before connecting the cable.
If you supply excess current (over 300mA) from this transmitter to the external equipment, the
power will be shutdown automatically.
In the case of this happening, disconnect the power supply cable for the external equipment and
turn the power off. Leave it for a while and turn the power switch on.

8
6.How to Use
As a stereophonic transmitter
Connect the output of the sound source (LINE OUT) to the terminals Analog input Left (white)
and Analog Input Right (red), using audio cables. Output impedance of the LINE OUT should be
less than 1KΩ.
When the sound source and the transmitter are distant (5m or more), you may obtain noise
reduction by using a balanced cable (XLR connector) for connection. (Balance to unbalance
conversion will be required since this transmitter adopts unbalanced input.)
As a monaural transmitter
When stereophonic sound sources are connected by audio cables to Analog input Left (white) and
Analog input Right (red), left and right audio sound sources are mixed and will be transmitted as a
monaural broadcast. If you connect sound source A to Analog input Left (white) and source B to
Analog input Right (red), two channel-mixer output will be transmitted as monaural broadcast
Transmit the composite input
For transmission of the composite input (yellow), the transmitter’s audio characteristics are
determined by the signal characteristics of the connected composite input since VCO will be
directly modulated to FM (bypass those of input filter, pre-emphasis circuit, stereo multiplexer
circuit and multiplexer filter). Flatness of modulation characteristics of VCO is less than ±0.5dB
in the range of 30Hz〜100KHz. (High frequency characteristics left unchanged.)

8.Setting up synchronous control
When you use two or more transmitters within the same area, noise reduction in the interfering areas
might be obtained by synchronizing the reference clocks of each transmitter.
Choose one as the master transmitter and the rest as slaves. For slave equipment, place the jumper
plug between pins 1 and 2 of the JP1 (inside the main body).
How to set up the slave equipment
1.Disconnect the AC adaptor. Remove the 4 screws specified below with a screwdriver and pull up
the cover.

Attention!
Getting the reduction of clock radiation noise from the connecting cable for synchronous control,
the shortest cabling of sealed cables or coaxial cables (e.g. 1.5D2V) will be most desirable.
