1 Overview
The RG-DEMUX/MUX series demultiplexers and multiplexers are passive devices for optical switching
released by Ruijie Networks for simplified optical Ethernet scenarios.
Boasting CWDM technology and 16-channel standard wavelengths ranging from 1271nm to 1571nm in 20nm
increments, this series, when used along with Ruijie Simplified Optical Ethernet solutions, can extend 10G/1G
optical fibers to each room and meet customer requirements for collapsing the distribution switch, achieving
passive distribution nodes, and reducing the configuration and O&M workloads of active distribution nodes.
Moreover, in some reconstruction scenarios, expansion of port services also becomes possible with existing
optical fiber resources, thus solving the problem of insufficient optical fiber resources.

2 Preparing for Installation
2.1 Safety Precautions
Warning
To avoid personal injury and device damage, please carefully read the safety precautions before installation.
The following safety precautions may not cover all possible hazardous situations.
2.1.1 General safety precautions
Please take necessary safety measures (e.g., wearing an anti-static wrist strap during the installation of the
demultiplexer/multiplexer + CWDM transceiver) to ensure the safety of yourself and the system.
Keep the chassis clean, free from any dust. Do not place the device in a damp place and protect the device
from ingress of water.
Make sure that the ground is dry and flat, and that effective slip-resistant measures have been taken.
Do not place the device in walking areas.
During the installation and maintenance, do not wear loose clothes, jewelry or any other objects that may
get caught on the chassis.
The demultiplexer is light in weight. However, after it is plugged into the slot of a RG-S7800C switch, the
switch will become heavier. More than one people should be engaged to carry or lift the switch and special
attention should be paid to personal safety when carrying or lifting the switch.
The demultiplexer/multiplexer has built-in passive components such as a three-port filter, which should be
properly secured to prevent falling. Any fall of the three-port filter should be duly recorded.
2.1.2 Laser safety
The demultiplexer/multiplexer supports a number of CWDM transceivers, which are class 1 laser products.
Warning
●When an optical fiber transceiver is in operation, make sure that the port has been connected with an
optical fiber or covered by a dust plug to keep out dust and prevent it from burning your eyes.
●Do not approach or look directly at the optical port under any circumstances to avoid permanent damage
to your eyes. Optical interfaces include modules, each channel port (multiplexing port and demultiplexing
port) of the demultiplexer and multiplexer, exposed optical fiber cables, etc.
2.1.3 Others
This guide only covers RG-DEMUX/MUX series demultiplexers/multiplexers and CWDM transceivers. For how
to plug a RG-DEMUX series demultiplexer into a RG-S7800C series core switch, please refer to the
RG-S7800C Series Switch Hardware Installation and Reference Guide. Please make preparations for
installation according to the safety precautions specified in the document.
