NexFX Pedal Tuner (NEX-5000)
When Sabine makes a pedal
tuner, you know it’s fast and
accurate. The bright, multi-
color LED displays a huge let-
ter indicating your note, and
the sweeping sharp/flat indica-
tors act like a bar graph of your
pitch — you get a big green
light when you’re in-tune. And the side-chain tuning circuit means
your signal is absolutely untouched. You also get power in and
out, so you can use the NEX-5000 and all other NexFX pedals
as a power supply for other 9V pedals. Four levels of flat tuning,
easy recalibration, mute switch for silent tuning, two-audio out-
puts, and a bomb-proof metal case make this the ultimate choice
in stage tuners.
NexFX FuzzStortion™ (NEX-5100)
From warm and fuzzy to head-
crushing, this one has all the
distortion you need! Blend the
perfect mix, from 60s fuzz tone
to end-of-the-millennium bom-
bast. Carve out a heaping
scoop of midrange while leav-
ing a sparkling top and a thun-
derous bottom—or leave the
mids intact and tweak the treble. You’ll love the buzz from this
fuzz!
♦Fuzz and Distortion in one pedal
♦Two tone controls for optimal sonic contouring
♦Broad range of sound, from light crunch to thick metal distor-
tion
NexFX Overdrive (NEX-5200)

NexFX Pedal Tuner (NEX-5000)
Your Sabine NEX-5000 Pedal Tuner captures notes fast and ac-
curately, and holds them longer for quick and easy tuning. The
NexFX Pedal Tuner’s 11-LED display simulates a bar graph that
sweeps to the right or left showing how sharp or flat the note is.
The NexFX Pedal Tuner’s Flat-Tune function lets you quickly trans-
pose from standard tuning. In addition, a Calibrate function allows
for tuning to other than A=440 Hz.
Furthermore, the NexFX Pedal Tuner has two parallel outputs—
that means the same signal can split to different sound processing
equipment or to other Sabine NexFX Pedals.
Tuning with your NEX-5000
Recalibrating your NEX-5000 tuner
Use the calibrate function to tune your instrument to a pitch other
than A = 440, or if you want to use alternate scales.
For example
, if you
wish to recalibrate the tuner from standard A = 440 Hz to A = 438 Hz,
press and hold the Calibrate Button for at least 3 seconds (the LED
above 440 will stop flashing and remain lit). Press the Calibrate Button
9 more times until the LED above 438 is lit (after 445 Hz, the sequence
wraps around to 435 Hz). When finished, wait 5 seconds, your setting
will be saved and the NEX-5000 will revert to tuning mode and the green
LED will flash at 2 times per second.
Flat Tuning with your NEX-5000 tuner
Use the Flat-Tune function to quickly transpose your guitar down from
standard tuning —useful when trying to sing a song not in your vocal range.
The Flat Tune Steps scale shows the number of steps or tones below
standard tuning. For example, to flat tune your guitar down two half tones,
pressandhold the FlatTunebutton for 3secondsand then release(theLED
above the current Flat Tune setting will light —if you are not currently flat
tuned, the LED above 440 will light). Then press the Flat Tune button twice
more or until the LED above 1 in the Flat Tune Scale lights. When finished,
wait 5 seconds, your setting will be saved (the NEX-5000 will revert to tuning
mode and the green LED will flash at 3 fps). Remember, when you tune your
guitar down one step in Flat Tune mode, and you pluck the E string, the note
will still display as E, but it will really be D.
Plug your ¼-inch guitar cord into
the NEX-5000 Input. The LEDs will sweep
left then right once and the center green
In-Tune Indicator LED will start to flash
once per second.
NOTE: The Stomp Switch on your
NEX-5000 is a mute switch that affects both outputs (in case
nobody wants to hear you tune!).
Now you’re ready to tune! Gently pluck the string you wish to tune. The
Note Indicator LED will display the note, and the Sharp/Flat display will
show you how far your note is from in-tune. Adjust the string’s tension
until the Note Indicator LED displays the desired note, and the green In-
Tune Indicator LED stays lit.

Powering your NexFX Pedal
The unit turns on when a ¼-inch plug is inserted into the Input. NexFX
Pedalscanbe poweredby a9-volt battery ora SabineNexFX 9-voltPower
Supply. In addition, there is a 9-volt power Input and Output, allowing all
Sabine pedals (and most others) to be powered by just one Sabine NEX-
PowerAdapter.Andbattery changing isquickand easy: liftthecoveroff with
a squeeze, pop a new battery in and drop the cover back with a snap.

Resetting to the default settings
Your NEX-5000 Pedal Tuner remembers the Calibrate and Flat Tune
settings from its previous use —even with the power off. To reset the
tuner to the default settings, with the Power Off (nothing plugged into the
Input Jack), press and hold the Flat Tune & Calibrate buttons while you
Power On (insert a ¼-inch plug into the Input Jack). Continue pressing the
Flat Tune & Calibrate buttons for at least three seconds. The pedal tuner
will be reset to the default state of A=440 Hz and zero flat tune, and the
In-Tune LED will flash once per second.
Some Stringed Instrument Tuning Tips
♦Pluck one string at a time.
♦Pluck the instrument once per second to keep the note “fresh”while you
are tuning. Notes go noticeably flat a second or two after being plucked.
If tuning a higher-pitched instrument (such as a mandolin), pluck a little
faster; for a lower-pitched instrument (such as a bass), pluck slower.
♦Donotpluckloudly. Generallylightto mediumvolumesprovidepurertones
that are easier for tuners to analyze.
♦Pluckthestrings withtheflesh ofthethumb. Fingernails andflatpicks add
overtones and slow the tuning process.
♦Tune from a pitch that is flat up to the pitch you desire. This procedure
removes any slack in the gears of the instrument’s tuning heads. If you
tune from sharp to in tune, the gears will slip as you play, and the
instrument will go flat after a few minutes of playing.
♦If you have difficulty getting a note to register on the tuner, touch the other
strings lightly to stop their sympathetic vibrations.
♦Use good strings. Old strings lose their uniformity and do not vibrate
evenly. Remember to stretch your new strings out; new strings stretch flat
as you play.
♦Allsourcesoffriction cause tuningproblems. Forexample,if the slotinan
instrument’s nut is too tight, the string will be pulled flat as it is played. A
tight nut (or capo) will cause the string’s pitch to change in steps rather
than evenly.
♦Avoidpressureontheinstrumentwhiletuning. Evenmoderatepressureonthe
neckofaguitar will causeanoticeable change in pitch. Also, pressthe strings
straight down to the fingerboard. Bending the strings sideways is very com-
mon, especially on difficult chords, but causes the strings to be pulled sharp.
Toinsert or replacebattery,placepalm overrubberstomppadwiththumb

both fingers, lift off from thumb side. Connect battery to battery terminal and
