Precautions
Location
Using the unit in the following locations can

Power supply
Please connect the designated AC adapter
to an AC outlet of the correct voltage. Do not
connect it to an AC outlet of voltage other
than that for which your unit is intended.
Interference with other electrical devices
Radios and televisions placed nearby may
experience reception interference. Operate
this unit at a suitable distance from radios
and televisions.
Handling
To avoid breakage, do not apply excessive
force to the switches or controls.
Care
If the exterior becomes dirty, wipe it with a
clean, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners
such as benzene or thinner, or cleaning
compounds or flammable polishes.
Keep this manual
After reading this manual, please keep it for
later reference.
Keeping foreign matter out of your equipment
Never set any container with liquid in it near
this equipment. If liquid gets into the equip-
ment, it could cause a breakdown, fire, or
electrical shock.
Be careful not to let metal objects get into
the equipment. If something does slip into
the equipment, unplug the AC adapter from
the wall outlet. Then contact your nearest
VOX dealer or the store where the equip-
ment was purchased.

Controls
Note: Always turn off your guitar amplifier before you connect your guitar cables,
power supply cables, or change the battery in your Satchurator, to avoid damag-
ing your amp.
1. AC adapter jack : This allows for connection to an optional 9V DC power supply
(not included).
2. Gain : This knob controls the level of gain, or distortion. Turn this knob clockwise
to increase the gain level, and counter-clockwise to decrease the gain level. Try

setting this knob at moderate settings for classic rock and blues rhythm and lead
tones and crank it up from there for powerful, smooth lead tones.
3. Output : This is the 1/4" output. Plug a second guitar cable between this and
your amp, or between this and the next pedal in your chain.
4. Pad : The pad switch is a subtle, but highly useful control that maximizes dynam-
ics and tone with bright guitars and/or effects (such as wah) placed before the
distortion. Down is the standard default position of this switch. Up engages the
pad.
5. “ON” LED : This LED illuminates when the Satchurator is turned on.
Note: If this LED begins to dim, light unstably or if your pedal makes any unusual
noise, your battery is almost empty. If this happens, please replace the battery.
When the battery is completely empty, you will hear no sound from the pedal.
6. ON : This switch turns the Satchurator on and off.
7. Tone : This knob controls the overall tone and EQ of the pedal. Turn this knob
clockwise to increase the overall brightness of the effect, and counter-clockwise
to roll off highs and achieve a darker sound.
8. Volume : This knob controls the output level of the effect. Turn this knob clock-
wise to increase the output level, and counter-clockwise to decrease the output
level. Use this control to either match or boost your unaffected tone, based on
your personal tastes.

9. Input : This is the 1/4" input. Plug your guitar into this. Connecting a guitar cable
to the “INPUT” jack will turn on the power automatically. For extended battery
life, always unplug your guitar cable from the input when not in use.
10. “MORE” LED : This LED illuminates when the “MORE” switch is engaged.
11. MORE : This switch activates “MORE” mode. This feature was a request of Joe
and adds a huge amount of tonal flexibility to this pedal that most traditional
distortion pedals do not have. At high gain settings, “MORE” provides a subtle
boost in gain and midrange that is just enough to push your leads to the top of
the mix, without adding unwanted distortion, clipping or noise. At lower-to
moderate gain settings, the “MORE” switch will boost the gain significantly,
allowing for dual-sound setups. Try setting the gain control at 2 o’clock and
using the “MORE” switch to boost your tone to the equivalent of the pedal’s “10”
gain setting. That’s two totally different and dynamic sounds in one pedal!
Battery compartment : This is where you can access the 9V battery.
   

“Changing the battery”
1. Open the battery case on the bottom of the pedal
and remove the 9V battery (6F22).
2. Remove the battery snap from the 9V battery.
3. Install a new battery onto the snap and put the bat-
tery back into the case.
4. Close the battery case.
Note: Remove the 9V battery from the pedal when
not using it for long time periods.

The Satchurator Story & Special Features
The Satchurator is designed to the exact specifications of world-renowned guitar icon Joe
Satriani. Joe wanted a dynamic, touch responsive, and musical distortion pedal that
would start with his favorite vintage Japanese distortion pedal (which gets its sound from
several now out of production components) and add features and tonal enhancements
that would be not only useful to him, but to guitarists of all styles and levels. This distor-
tion was designed and tested on Joe’s rig, as well as a variety of different amp and guitar
setups so that you will be sure to have a tone-changing experience with this pedal for
years to come!

Special features of the Satchurator:
Pure, powerful, and dynamic distortion tone. Through months of painstaking experi-
mentation and road testing Joe and the VOX R&D team discovered the secrets to captur-
ing the ultimate distortion tone in a modern-day pedal. The Satchurator is capable of very
high gain levels, but preserves the tone and pick attack of the guitarist plugging into it.
Best of all, you can play VERY hard with anything from vintage single coils to high output
humbucking pickups and the input will not clip like many modern day distortion pedals.
We would tell you more about how we nailed this sound, but then we’d have to…well,
you know.
“MORE” Switch. This switch adds a huge amount of tonal flexibility to the Satchurator,
and essentially makes this a two-in-one pedal. At high gain settings, “MORE” provides a
subtle boost in gain and midrange that is just enough to push your leads to the top of the
mix, without adding unwanted distortion, clipping or noise. At lower-to moderate gain
settings, the “MORE” switch will boost the gain significantly, allowing for dual-sound set-
ups. Try setting the gain control at 2 o’clock and using the “MORE” switch to boost your
tone to the equivalent of the pedal’s “10” gain setting. Since you can dial in two totally dif-
ferent, dynamic sounds in one pedal, you can save space on your pedal board!
Chicken Head Knobs. There were a lot of practical reasons Joe chose these knobs over
something more modern looking. For one, they just look cool! But the controls of the
Satchurator are so sensitive and the range of sounds so broad, that Joe and the VOX team
found that very small changes in knob settings yielded very cool sounds. So, we decided it
was essential to give you the most precision possible in exploring and documenting your

own favorite sound settings. The chicken head knobs with pointers were the best way to
go. Joe chose cream, so you can see them in dark places, like on stage or in your basement.
Joe’s pedals play nice with others! Once we got the basic sound of the pedal nailed, Joe
threw a curve ball at us. He rightly insisted that we ensure that the Satchurator perform
flawlessly, and without the distortion and overloading of other distortion pedals when
running them with wah pedals or other stomp boxes. The Satchurator retains its tone in
any chaining configuration.

Commandes
Remarque: Coupez toujours votre ampli de guitare avant de brancher vos câbles
de guitare et d’alimentation ou de changer la pile de la Satchurator pour éviter
d’endommager l’ampli.
1. Prise pour adaptateur secteur: Vous pouvez y brancher un adaptateur 9V DC
disponible en option (non fourni).
2. Gain: Cette commande détermine le niveau de gain ou de distorsion. Tournez
cette commande dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre pour augmenter le gain

et dans le sens inverse pour le diminuer. Réglez cette commande sur un niveau
moyen pour des rythmes rock et blues ainsi que pour des solos classiques. Aug-
mentez le niveau pour des sons solo puissants.
3. Sortie: Cette sortie est une prise jack 1/4". Vous pouvez utiliser un deuxième
câble de guitare pour brancher cette sortie à votre ampli ou à la pédale suivante
de votre chaîne.
4. Pad: Le commutateur PAD est une commande subtile mais très utile qui maxi-
mise la dynamique et le timbre pour des sons de guitare brillants et/ou des effets
(comme le wah) placés avant la distorsion. La position basse est la position stan-
dard de ce commutateur. En position haute, l’atténuation est active.
5. Témoin ON: Ce témoin s’allume quand le Satchurator est sous tension.
Remarque: Si l’intensité de ce témoin diminue, s’il s’allume de façon intermit-
tente ou si la pédale fait des bruits inhabituels, la pile est pratiquement épuisée.
Dans ce cas, remplacez la pile. Quand la pile est complètement épuisée, la
pédale ne produit plus aucun son.
6. ON: Cet interrupteur met la Satchurator sous/hors tension.
7. Tone: Cette commande pilote le timbre global et l’égaliseur de la pédale. Tournez
cette commande dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre pour augmenter la
brillance de l’effet et dans le sens inverse pour atténuer l’aigu et obtenir un son
plus sourd.
8. Volume: Cette commande détermine le niveau de sortie de l’effet. Tournez cette
commande dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre pour augmenter le niveau de

sortie et dans le sens inverse pour le diminuer. Utilisez cette commande pour
atteindre ou accentuer le niveau du signal non traité, en fonction de vos goûts
personnels.
9. Entrée: Cette entrée est une prise jack 1/4”. Branchez ici votre guitare. La con-
nexion d’un câble de guitare à cette entrée IN met automatiquement la pédale
sous tension. Pour économiser la pile, débranchez toujours le câble de guitare de
l’entrée quand vous n’utilisez pas la pédale.
10. Témoin MORE: Ce témoin s’allume quand le commutateur MORE est activé.
11. MORE: Ce commutateur active le mode MORE. Cette fonction répond à une
demande de Joe et confère une flexibilité sonore considérable à la pédale dont
sont dépourvues la plupart des pédales de distorsion traditionnelles. Avec un
réglage de gain élevé, le mode MORE accentue subtilement le gain et le médium,
et place vos solos à l’avant-plan, sans ajouter de distorsion, de saturation ou de
bruit indésirable. Avec des réglages de gain faibles à modérés, le commutateur
MORE accentue considérablement le gain et permet de créer des configurations à
double signal. Réglez, par exemple, la commande GAIN à 2h puis activez le com-
mutateur MORE: vous accentuez le signal comme si vous aviez réglé le gain de la
pédale sur «10». Vous obtenez ainsi deux sons dynamiques complètement diffé-
rents avec une seule pédale!
Compartiment à pile: C’est ici que la pile 9V est logée.

Changer la pile
1. Ouvrez le compartiment à pile sous la
pédale et retirez la pile 9V (6F22).
2. Détachez la pile 9V des contacts.
3. Fixez une nouvelle pile aux contacts et
placez-la dans le compartiment.
4. Refermez le couvercle du compartiment à
piles.
Remarque: Retirez la pile 9V du compar-
timent si vous n’utilisez pas la pédale
durant une période prolongée.
