DVD Region Protection Coding (RPC):
The RPC feature is supported on DVD players and is used with DVD-video dis s
(su h as movies). Currently, the motion pi ture industry has divided the world into
different regions or zones that orrespond to the regional markets into whi h the
motion pi ture industry releases movies. Simply put, RPC odes are pla ed on movies
marketed throughout the world, based on the region of the world in whi h they are
being sold. These RPC odes help ontrol and prevent pirating of new movies into
other motion pi ture regions prior to their true release dates within those markets.
The SM-352 COMBO drive supports RPC phase II. In the RPC-2 mode, the lo al
ode an be hanged by users.
RPC-2 is sele ted by default for the SM-352 COMBO drive.
You an hange the region ode up to five times via an MPEG appli ation.

What is Buffer Under-Run?
Every CD-R or CD-RW drive re ords the data that the Host PC wants to re ord
until the data flow ends. However, if the buffer be omes empty temporarily,
this may ause errors in re ording data.
What is Auto-Run?
If inserting a CD into a drive, the operating system exe utes the Autorun.inf file
of the CD automati ally.
What is Justlink?
This fun tion is to he k the buffer to see if there are data while re ording.
If the buffer is empty, it waits at the address and then restarts re ording after
the buffer is full. You an avoid Buffer Under-Run problems by applying the
above-mentioned prin iple.
Term Description
Important!
Please read the entire DMA installation guide before installing your COMBO drive.
About DMA Installation
For stable writing performan e at high speeds, Installation of DMA transfer mode for
E-IDE interfa e is strongly re ommended.
We re ommend DMA mode for fast writing.
DMA Setting
Before you install your COMBO drive, we re ommend to set DMA to enabled on your
PC system. See the following pro edure to set DMA transfer mode in windows
oprerating system. (Windows 95 OSR2/98/ME)

Caution with errors
Every CD-R or CD-RW drive re ords data by applying re ording laser onto a CD.
If the CD is damaged or re ording data is not possible, you need to remove the
following auses of the error before using the CD.
It is re ommended to set a CD-R or CD-RW drive as follows.
1
Do not work on a multi-tasking environment and remove s reen savers.
If you work on a multi-tasking environment while the CD-RW drive
is re ording/deleting data, Buffer Under-Run may o ur.
2
Do not allow any external a ess to the Host PC while re ording data.
If another user a esses your printer through a network while you are
re ording data, errors may o ur.
5
Use an E-IDE able, whi h has the spe ified length (46 m).
Using E-IDE ables longer than 46 m may ause errors during data transa tion.
3
Remove the Auto-Run fun tion of the CD.
If you insert a CD that has the Auto-Run fun tion to a drive onne ted to a
PC while re ording/deleting data, this may ause errors.
How to cancel (select) the Auto-Run function
Can el (Sele t) the Auto-Run fun tion in [Start > Setting > Control Panel >
System > Devi e Manager > CD-ROM Setting]
6
Use only one re ording software program.
To install a software program for re ording, uninstall any other types or versions
of re ording software programs first and then reboot the omputer.
Make sure you use the re ording software CD (Nero Burning Rom /
Roxio Easy CD Creator) provided by us. Using our software program with
others may ause errors in re ording.
4
Use image files when you re ord many small files.
If you use a lot of small size files for re ording, this may redu e the transa tion
rate of the PC. Although Justlink fun tion is often run, the re ording quality
may be ome low.
If you opy a CD from another, you do not require making available spa e in the
hard disk. However, when you use image files, you need to opy them on the hard
disk first and then opy to a CD. In this ase, you need to ensure maximum 700MB
of available spa e in the hard disk for reliable re ording pro ess.
Not ompatible with Windows 95 in ase of Ro io Software.
